EK ANOKHI KAHAANI - Part 42
Aastha wasn't feeling the best. She was trying to forget everything that had happened last night. She did not want to begin the day thinking about it. She reached office with Shruti and Aakash, and not for once did she show them she wasn't happy. The day went perfectly fine till she saw Shlok. Shlok and Rahul were walking towards Aastha. She did not want to confront Shlok and so decided to walk away silently. But then she thought she might just smile at him. She saw them both coming closer. Rahul looked at her and smiled. She smiled back. She then looked at Shlok but he completely ignored her. He walked past her as if he never did see her. Aastha felt bad... she was hurt as she stared at is back as he walked away. Rahul too noticed it but decided to give them some time. Aastha was unable to understand the reason behind the drastic change in Shlok's behaviour. And her family, her dear friends Shruti and Aakash did not fail to notice she wasn't really happy. But little did they know the reason. They did not think much of it.
Aastha couldn't stop wondering what was wrong with Shlok. Days were passing and things were worsening. Shlok always avoided Aastha. He never spoke to her except on professional terms. Their relation, whatever it was, had become very mechanical. They met only during work-related meetings. Even when Aastha went alone in his cabin to discuss about their project, he avoided talking to her giving some or the other excuse, and either he made her leave the cabin or he himself left. By now Aastha had understood that Shlok was purposely avoiding her and on this thought his words always flashed in her mind... Just stay away from me!!! But why?? She just couldn't understand. What wrong had she done that he was treating her in such a manner? He no more was cordial with her. He didn't care about her any more. She had once had hopes that he would like her some day... she had hopes that her wish of being his would come true... and that her Aai would be proved wrong. But her hopes were just hopes... hollow.
Aastha had started to know Shlok, she had started to understand him... she knew he wasn't like all those sons of rich dads. He was different, he surely was. He had something in him that had always attracted Aastha. Though he seemed arrogant and rude, she knew the real Shlok. She had seen him, she had felt his gentleness, his care... And she knew he had a heart! And he was very good at it! But all that Aastha had known till now contradicted everything that was happening now. Now she was looking at a completely different Shlok, the Shlok she had met the first time. Now she was confused. Which was the real Shlok? The Shlok she had always liked, or the Shlok she was seeing now? But somewhere she still believed in the Shlok she had liked... She still believed he would return...
One evening Aastha was about to leave office when a peon came hurrying to her and asked, "Aastha madam, how are you now?" Aastha looked a little surprised and a bit confused at this sudden question, but she replied that she was fine now. The peon nodded and went away. Aastha walked out of the office. She felt glad at the peon's concern but at the same time she was hurt. Even the peon cared to ask her how she was after the accident, but Shlok didn't care at all. He didn't even ask about her bike which she had brought back the next day. Shruti and Aakash, who waited at the parking area, noticed her sad face and wondered what had happened to her since the past few days. This was not their Aastha who used to be happy and enthusiastic always. This was not their Aastha who always wore a smile on her face and who didn't know what being sad was like. This was not their Aastha who always used to be cheerful and who used to cheer up everyone around her! Their Aastha was lost somewhere... They saw Aastha walking towards them with a pale smile as though hiding her grief behind it. But Shruti and Aakash decided not to spoil her mood further.
Aastha returned home and ofcourse was not in a great mood. Her silence at the dining table was difficult to tolerate for her parents and Ajju but they remained silent expecting Aastha to speak about it herself when she felt the best time. Aastha was thinking about the concern of the peon for her. Her eyes became wet at the thought that Shlok didn't care. But then something struck her mind, she thought "How did the peon know about my accident? Only Shlok Sir..." and then she was overjoyed. "That means Shlok Sir had sent him!!" she cried with joy.
Avdhoot, Kalindi and Ajju stared at her confused by her sudden reaction. "What are you talking about, Aastha?" asked Kalindi gladly.
Aastha couldn't stop smiling. "Nothing Aai..." she said and got up to leave to her room.
"Arey Aastha, eat some rice dear..." said Kalindi.
"No Aai... My stomach is full now!" said Aastha as she went away. She didn't feel like eating anything now. She was so happy that she danced with her teddy bear in her room. She was happy that Shlok still cared... and she was happy that she wasn't wrong in knowing Shlok.
