EK ANOKHI KAHAANI - Part 49

They finally reached the hotel. Shlok and Aastha got down the van. Shlok got their baggage from the roof of the van and handed over a five-hundred rupee note to the driver. As the driver put his hand in his pocket to return the remainder amount, Shlok told him to keep the money. The driver was surprised at Shlok's generosity. As Shlok and Aastha moved into the hotel gate, the driver kissed the five-hundred rupee note and blessed Shlok and Aastha in his mind and wished they both always stayed together.

Shlok had already called Rahul and briefed him about what had happened. So Rahul, Aakash and Shruti were already waiting for Shlok and Aastha at the reception. As Shlok and Aastha arrived, Rahul hurried to Shlok, and Aakash and Shruti to Aastha. Aastha hugged Shruti as tears flowed down her eyes. Shruti caressed her and took her to her room. The others followed. Aastha had never been to a five-star hotel before, and this hotel would have enthralled her and she would have stared at everything in awe had all this not happened to her on their way here. Aastha was in no mood to notice her luxurious room. Shruti made Aastha sit on the bed. Aastha was silent... very silent. She had not spoken a word to anyone, not even to Shruti or Aakash. As Shruti sat beside Aastha, Aakash handed Aastha a glass of water, but she refused to have it. Shlok and Rahul stood at the door watching everything. Rahul could see Shlok's desperation to be with Aastha at the moment, but Shlok was trying to control it. They both knew very well that Aakash and Shruti were very close to Aastha, and when they were around, Aastha didn't need Shlok or Rahul. Rahul walked to Aastha to talk to her. But as he went closer, he noticed Aastha's condition and decided not to talk of that incident at this moment. So to cheer up everyone he said, "Okay... Everyone freshen up and let's meet down to eat something... Shlok, Aastha, you both must be hungry...!"

Aastha had no reaction to this. Shruti and Aakash joined Rahul and agreed to what he said.

"Shruti, Aastha... you both get ready and come down... We will wait there..." said Aakash, as he, along with Shlok and Rahul, moved out of the room.

Shruti closed the door and came back to Aastha. "Come Aastha, you must be so hungry. Let's"

"I am not hungry!" replied Aastha curtly. Aastha was sitting like a statue in her position, staring at the floor. Shruti sat beside Aastha caressing her arm.

Just then there was a knock on the door. Shruti opened the door to see Shlok there. "Aastha's bag was with me..." he said handing it to Shruti.

As Shruti went in to keep the bag, Shlok quickly glanced at Aastha to check whether she was alright. But he couldn't see her face, he couldn't see her eyes that spoke everything.

Shruti went to Aastha saying, "See, now we have got your bag too! Quickly change your dress" Shruti tried to take off Shlok's coat from over Aastha but Aastha pulled it back with force and held it tightly. "I don't want to change my dress!!!" she yelled at Shruti. Shruti was taken aback. Shlok, who was standing near the door, was shocked too. Shruti looked at Shlok, he sighed. Looking at Aastha Shruti said, "Aastha, you know, I have got the chocolates Aai had made yesterday! You love them a lot, right? I will just go get them!!!" Saying so Shruti looked at Shok, he nodded in response. He appreciated how Shruti was trying to make Aastha comfortable. Shruti went to her room to get the chocolates.

Aastha was sitting still. Shlok walked to her. She looked up to see him. She couldn't control her tears. Only Shlok knew what she had gone throught. Aastha kept looking at Shlok expecting him to say something. She wanted to hear those soothing words of his. And he knew that too, but he remained silent. Instead of saying anything, he just held the sleeve of his coat, making sure he didn't touch her body. Aastha's grip on the coat tightened. "Please don't...!" she said. She was a bit frightened.

Shlok left the sleeve immediately. Both were staring at each other. Shlok's gaze was determined, and Aastha's, shocked and confused. "I want my coat back!" said Shlok, "Quickly change your dress and give back my coat!!" he said in an ordering tone. He was doing this just to make her change into different clothes so that she would be more comfortable and then she would feel better.

"I am not giving it back!" said Aastha innocently as a tear rolled down her cheek.

Shlok sighed at her innocence. He looked at her and said softly, "Aastha, how much more time will you stay in those clothes, aan? Look, I know, saying that 'forget what happened' is very simple. And I know it is not at all easy for you..." More tears flowed down Aastha's cheeks. Shlok continued, "But you can atleast try... Can you?" Aastha didn't respond. "Good!" he said assuming a positive response from her. "And the first step will be getting rid of those clothes you are wearing! So, I want you to change your clothes right now!" and he continued in a dramatic tone, "And I want my coat back yaar! I am very much particular about my clothes, you know!" Aastha chuckled at that and Shlok smiled seeing Aastha.

Shlok turned to leave so that Aastha would change, but Aastha stopped him holding his arm. And to his surprise, she took off the coat and handed it to him. Shlok was shocked. He had not expected that she would do this. "Aastha?!" Shlok immediately moved his gaze away from her.

"What? Why are you so shocked? I was in the same condition when you covered me with your coat, wasn't I?"

Shlok was more shocked. He just left the room with his coat, pulling the door to close it, without any reply. Just then Shruti came back with the box of chocolates. She tapped on the door, but Aastha told her to wait for two minutes as she was changing. Shruti was pleasantly surprised to know that.

Shlok and Rahul were already waiting in the dining area, when Aastha, Shruti and Aakash came there. To everyone's surprise, Aastha occupied the place next to Shlok, that was between Shlok and Rahul. Normally, a girl would not sit between two guys when she had no relation with them, that's what everyone thought and hence were a bit surprised. But no one spoke anything in that matter. Shlok couldn't believe Aastha sat next to him and he felt more uncomfortable when Rahul gave that strange look to him. Though Aastha was silent, she seemed better and everyone was glad to see that. Shlok observed that Aastha had carefully covered the scratches on her neck with her dupatta and she kept ensuring they were not revealed. They all ordered the food. Rahul, Aakash and Shruti had already had some with their client they had meeting with. They ordered some light food to give Shlok and Aastha company. By the time their food was served, everyone wanted to lighten up Aastha's mood. They were thinking what to say so that Aastha felt good.

Just then Aastha suddenly said, "Oh no!! I didn't inform Aai that we reached here! Everyone at home must be so worried! How did I forget?!"

Aastha was breathing fast. Everyone tried to relax her. Everyone, except Shlok, was saying something that would calm her down. Shlok just looked at her.

Finally Shruti said, "Relax Aastha! No problem dear... You can call them now and tell them! Nothing to worry..." Aastha calmed down.

"Okay, call them right away... Where's your phone?" said Aakash.

"Phone...?!" Aastha said blankly.

"Your phone, Aastha! Where is it?" asked Aakash.

"My phone..." Aastha tried to recall, "It was in my hand when Shlok Sir had left... and then..." she was lost into the memory... "And then that guy..." Her heartbeats raised, she was breathing heavily, her face was covered with the expression of horror... Shlok was worried looking at her face. The others didn't know what was happening. Aastha suddenly got up and ran to her room. Aakash and Shruti exchanged glances and went behind Aastha calling out to her. Shlok and Rahul followed.

Shruti and Aakash saw that Aastha was sitting on the floor in a corner against the cot embracing herself. Shlok and Rahul waited at the door as the other two went in. As Aakash went closer to her, Aastha moved away from him further into the corner. She was scared, her body was shivering.

"Don't touch me!!" she said in a trembling tone, "don't come near me..." she was scared to the core.

"Aastha... It's okay, it's me, Aakash!" Aakash went closer trying to tell her that she was safe.

"Go away from me!!" cried Aastha. She was breathing fast, tears streaming down her eyes, "Don't touch me, don't touch me... go away... you can't do that..." she was continuously murmering, staring into the air.

Aakash stopped moving closer. Shruti quickly went near Aastha, trying to hug her. But Aastha pushed her back with force. "Stay away!!!" she screamed, "I don't want any sympathy of yours...!!! Leave me alone!!! Please!! Just leave!!" cried Aastha.

Everyone was shocked and worried. Shlok could feel Aastha's pain... He knew what she must be going through... He wanted to go near her, but he didn't for some reason. Rahul stepped forward to say, "Okay, let's everyone move out and leave Aastha alone for some time... May be she nees to be alone..." Everyone reluctantly agreed. They didn't want to leave Aastha in that condition, but their being there was troubling her more.

Everyone moved out and Shlok was about to close the door, when he saw Aastha's eyes looking at him, telling him not to leave her. Without thinking for another moment, Shlok re-entered the room and went straight to Aastha. She didn't resist this time. She just stared at him as he came closer, her eyes filled with water. He was about to scold her for her thoughts, but he couldn't after he saw her helplessness. He just silently sat beside her on the floor. She wanted to say something. Shlok was waiting for her to speak. She just kept looking at him.

"Aastha? I know you want to say something..." said Shlok.

Aastha began crying, speaking between her sobs... "Don't leave me... like that... ever again!... I was crying out... for you... That man... he was so..."

"Aastha.." Shlok tried to calm her... "Look here... Aastha... look at me..." But Aastha just went on crying. Finally Shlok held her arms and scolded her, "Aastha!!!!" She stopped crying instantly, staring at him in shock. He loosened his grip on her and said, "Aastha, nothing is gonna happen now... You are absolutely safe... Know it Aastha! You - are - safe!!! Okay?"

Aastha just kept looking at him. He realised that he was holding her. He quickly left her and moved back. Aastha didn't want him to go away. Shlok didn't know what was happening. Why he cared so much for her? Why did he want to be with her? Why did he didn't want to go away from her? What was this feeling? Was this just because of all that had happened with her? Or was this something more? Was this love? Did he love her? He didn't believe it. Could he even love? He was feeling uneasy at these thoughts. And Aastha's constant gaze on him was adding to the uneasiness. To move away from those thoughts, he remembered Aastha had to call her Aai.

"Aastha, you haven't yet informed at home that we have reached here..." reminded Shlok.

"My phone fell there on the road... and..."

"Take this..." said Shlok giving her his phone. "Speak to your Aai... you will probably feel better...!"

Aastha took the phone and dialled her landline number. Kalindi picked up the call. Aastha controlled her emotions, not letting Kalindi know what she was going through. And she didn't mention anything of what had happened. She returned the phone to Shlok after the call. Shlok was surprised that she did not tell anything to Aai. He asked her the reason. She told him that if she had told them, they would have worried a lot. "Are you alright?" asked Shlok. Aastha nodded in yes. "Come, let's eat something..." he said. Aastha quickly wiped her tears with her dupatta. Both stood up to go have dinner with the others. Shlok adjusted her dupatta so that those scratches were concealed, before they came out of the room. After the dinner, everyone went to their respective rooms to sleep.

Aastha dreamt about the man and she woke up scared to the core. She was breathing heavily, sweating. The darkness was scaring her more. She was all alone in that huge room. She didn't know what to do. She could feel her heard pounding. She could hear her beats in her ears. She got up, got the key and ran out of her room.

Shlok wasn't able to sleep. The thought of Aastha wasn't letting him sleep. He suddenly heard someone tapping hard on his door. Who would it be? He checked the time... 3:30 am. The taps on the door increased till he reached there to open the door. And he was shocked to see Aastha standing there, shivering, white in scare, breathless, looking at him with teary eyes.
