EK ANOKHI KAHAANI - Part 25

Aastha went to the canteen with her tiffin. Aakash and Shruti were already there. Aastha just went and sat down banging her tiffin on the table. Shruti and Aakash exchanged glances. What's wrong with her? Aakash and Shruti too sat down. Both opened their tiffins but Aastha didn't. She was lost in thinking about something. They could easily make out that she was sad.
"What happened Aastha?" asked Shruti finally. "Are you not feeling well?"
"Nothing yaar... just..." she was silent again. She opened her tiffin. Shruti and Aakash were looking at her. "Leave it yaar...!" she said as she took a piece of chapati. And then she saw her tiffin... "Mere tiffin mein Aaloo-mutur kyun nahi hai?!!!" she cried, frustrated.
"Aastha?!" said Shruti surprised. "Ho kya gaya hai tumhein? Bhindi toh tumhaari favourite sabzi hai na?!!" she said.
Aastha was silent. Shruti poked Aakash who was staring at Aastha. "Say something...!!" she told him.
"Aastha..." began Aakash, "I know I have already said this, but you are really looking very beautiful today...!!"
Aastha looked at him in surprise. Shruti stamped hard on his foot. "Ouch!" he cried. "Yeh bolne ke liye nahi kaha tha maine...!!" she said. "Look at her..." said Shruti. "That's what I am doing...!!" Aakash cut in. "Oh ho!! I mean look, she is not in a good mood...!!"
"Aastha..." said Shruti, "Kya hua hai? Did anyone say anything to you?"
"The problem is 'someone' didn't say 'anything' to me...!!!!" replied Aastha.
Shruti and Aakash were totally confused. Aastha was not eating anything.
"So, you don't want to eat bhindi?!" asked Aakash.
"No...!!" replied Aastha, still upset.
"Okay, we will eat the bhindi then...!!" he said winking at Shruti.
"Oh yes!! I too love bhindi...!!" said Shruti.
Aakash took a bite... "Mmm... waah!!! Kya sabzi banayi hai Aunty ne...!! Hai na Shruti?!"
"Haan!! Itni achhi bhindi toh maine aaj tak nahi khaayi...!!" said Shruti licking her fingertips.
Now Aastha couldn't ignore them. She just snatched her tiffin from both of them... "Arey, thoda mere liye bhi chhodo yaar...!!" she said.
"Arey, but you don't want to eat, right?" teased Aakash.
"Woh toh maine aise hi keh diya tha...!!" said Aastha, "mujhe toh bohot bhookh lagi hai...!!"
Aastha began eating. She really was hungry. And then she noticed that Aakash and Shruti were staring at her. Everyone looked at each other and broke into laughter. They enjoyed the lunch.
Then it was time to get back to work. The three were about to leave, when Aakash realised something. "Aastha...!" he said, "you haven't taken your medicines...!" he reminded her.
"Oh! Thank you so much for reminding yaar!! I had completely forgotten about it...!!"

Aastha returned to the room and had her medicines. In her mind, she again thanked Aakash for reminding her about them. "He is such a sweet guy...!" she thought with a smile. Just then Raghu Kaka, the peon, came there to tell her that Shlok had asked her to meet him.
Aastha began walking towards his cabin. She was thinking all the way. "I know Shlok Sir hates girls..." she thought. "I am expecting too much from him, I guess... It is my mistake... I should not have expected him to notice these things... Main bhi na...!" she smiled and walked into the cabin, looking around whether Aditi was still there.
"Khaana kha liya?! she heard Shlok's heavy voice. Had your lunch?
"Haan..." she said. "Aapne bhi khaaya hoga... aaloo-mutur!!!" she taunted.
He was shocked. This was unexpected. He felt embarrassed.
"Aditi..." he jerked his head. "Pagal hai woh...!" he said. "Why are girls so stupid and irritating?" he said.
"You shouldn't say that... in front of me atleast...!!" said Aastha strongly. "I am a girl too...!!"
"Nah... I don't mind saying it in front of you... I know you wont mind...!"
"What?!! Why wouldn't I mind?!!" thought Aastha. She felt offended. Shlok continued... "I know that...! Because you understand me..." he said softly, looking at the floor.
Aastha was stunned. Did Shlok really say that?
Shlok looked at Aastha. "Tum mujhe samajhti ho... Or else the way I had treated you, you would have resigned long ago..." he said.
Aastha was surprised. Shlok was looking into her eyes. Aastha didn't know what to say. Please don't look at me like that...!
Someone knocked on the door. Aastha was relieved from Shlok's sight.
"Come in...!" said Shlok. It was Shikha.
"Sir, I wanted to discuss about our new order..." said Shikha.
Aastha was about to leave when Shlok stopped her. "Aastha, you wait here. We'll finish our discussion in two minutes...right?" Shikha nodded.
After a little discussion, Shikha was leaving. But then she stopped... "Aastha, how are you now?" she enquired.
"I am fine...!" replied Aastha with a smile.
"By the way, you are looking nice today...!" said Shikha before she left. Aastha just smiled.
"Did you take your medecine?" asked Shlok after Shikha left.
"Yes! I did...!! Thank God Aakash reminded me of it... Or else I would surely have forgotten...!!" she said.
Shlok clenched his fists tight... "Aakash...! huh!!" he thought.
Few other team members came in. Shlok had called them all along with Aastha. They discussed about the project. The discusson went on and on. And then suddenly they realised that it was already late. They all got up to leave. Aastha's phone began ringing. It was Aakash. He and Shruti had been waiting for her at the parking.
"I will come in two minutes...!!" said Aastha and cut the call.
"Aakash is waiting for me at the parking..." Aastha told Shlok and others. "I have come with him today..." she added.
Now Shlok was very jealous. As Aastha began leaving, he called her... "Aastha...!"
She turned. "Yes Sir?"
"There is some work to be done...!" he said.
"Sir we have already discussed it, right?"
"No... not that one!!" He didn't know what he was saying. He just wanted her to stay back and not go with Aakash. "I wanted to talk about... yes!!! The deal with Mr. Deshpande...!!"
Just then Aakash came in looking for Aastha. "Aastha...! Chalo...!" he said. And then he noticed Shlok standing by. "Err... Good Evening Sir!!"
"Aastha will not come now... We have to discuss about an important project..."
"But Sir, she has come with me today..." said Aakash.
"Yeah, I know that. Don't worry... I will drop her home after we are done." He turned to Mansi. "Mansi, tell Shikha and Kunal to come to my cabin right away... Hope they haven't left...!"
Mansi nodded.
"Come Aastha..." said Shlok as he walked towards his cabin. Aakash looked at Aastha. She just nodded telling him that she will be fine. Aakash left and Aastha went back to Shlok's cabin.
Shikha and Kunal were there too. They discussed for a while. A file that was required was with Shlok at home. Aastha was supposed to take that file with her. Shlok was anyways going to drop her home. So it was decided that they will first collect the file from Shlok's home and then he will drop Aastha home.

They reached the Agnihotri Mansion. Shlok and Aastha went in. Kavya was very happy to see Aastha.
"Aastha didi, chalo game khelte hain...!!" she said happily.
Before Aastha could say anything, Shlok scolded Kavya... "Woh yahan kaam karne aayi hai, game khelne nahi...!!" Poor Kavya went away with a sad face. Shlok went towards his room to get the file. Aastha felt bad for Kavya.

Aditi saw Shlok come.
"Shlok, kitni der laga di?" she said going behind him. "It's so hot. Why don't we go have ice-cream?!!" she said smiling. Shlok didn't say anything. She kept following him. Shlok went in his room. As Aditi was about to enter the room, Shlok threw an angry glance at her. And that reminded her of how Shlok had yelled at her when she had entered his room. She stopped at the door.
Shlok was irritated. "Aditi, can we talk later?! I am busy right now...!!" he said straight away.
Aditi felt bad. "Okay..." she said sadly and went away. Shlok searched for the file but he couldn't find it. Aastha was waiting down for him. She had a little chat with Sojal and Anjali.
After a while, Shlok called her... "Aastha...!"
Aastha excused herself from Anjali and Sojal and climbed up the stairs. Aditi saw her. "So this is Aastha...!" she thought. She went upto her and said, "Aastha, Shlok is calling you... Go in...!!" Aastha nodded. Aditi knew that now Shlok will get angry at Aastha for entering his room. She was waiting for it.
Aastha went in and was shocked to see Shlok's room. Not a single thing was in its place. Clothes, files, papers, towels all spread across the room... "Oh My God!!" she thought. Shlok was still busy searching for the file.
"Need any help?" asked Aastha.
Shlok was shocked to see Aastha there. "When did you come in?!" he said.
Aditi peeped through the window waiting for the firing.
"Why did you come in?!" he said. No... he was not angry, he was ashamed for the condition of his room.
Aastha was looking around. She was disgusted. Shlok knew it.
"I know my room is not tidy... That's why that day I did not tell you to come in, instead I told you to wait in the study..." he said innocently.
Aastha smiled at his innocence... Mr. Shlok Agnihotri's innocence.
"It's okay..." said Aastha.
Aditi was boiling with anger. "What is so special about Aastha?!!! I am his friend since childhood... but he didn't allow me in his room...!! And this Aastha... huh!!!" she went away.

Here Kalindi was waiting for Aastha to come. But she had not returned yet. Just then Aakash came there and informed that Aastha would be late as she had to stay back for some work.
Kalindi was more worried now. She called Aastha and told her to come home soon.

"Let's look for the file... I have to reach home soon...!!" said Aastha.
"Yeah..." said Shlok and both began the search.
It was not easy to find the file in all the mess in the room. They couldn't find the file. Shlok was frustrated now. And he was angry too.
"Zaroor Mrs. Agnihotri ne kahin rakh di hogi...!!" he said. "I have told her n number of times, not to come in my room... But she never listens...!"
Aastha always felt bad when Shlok addressed Anjali as Mrs. Agnihotri.
"It is not right to blame someone else for your mistakes..." said Aastha holding the file in hand.
"Where was it?" asked Shlok.
"Below the shirt that was lying here below these scattered newspapers...!!" said Aastha. "And this is not your mother's fault, is it?!"
Shlok just looked down. He then said, "Let's go now...!" and he began to leave the room.
Aastha was angry. She always felt that the way he behaved with his mother was not right.
"Sir...!" Aastha called from behind and he stopped. "I want to know why you treat your mother like this!!" she said strongly. She didn't think another time before speaking. She didn't know what right she had to ask something like this. But she didn't hesitate today.
Shlok tried to ignore and walked ahead.
"Sir, wait!!" she said. "I wont leave unless I know it...!!!"
"Aastha, it would be better we don't talk about it...!" he said.
"You are a person without heart...!!! You never think of others' feelings...!! Be it anyone, a 4-year old innocent girl or your mother herself...!!" said Aastha.
Now Shlok couldn't bear this any more. An enraged Shlok walked towards Aastha and pointing in her face warned her, "You better stay away from all this..." he said, his eyes red with anger... "warna achha nahi hoga...!!"
And Shlok left the place in anger. Aastha stared at his back still trying to come out of the shock.

Dil mein itni nafrat jagaaye...
Yeh kaunsa gehra raaz hai...?
Itni kaisi kadwaahat hai dil mein...
Ki beta maa se itna naraaz hai...?
