EK ANOKHI KAHAANI - Part 22

Shlok drove the car cutting through the traffic. "Why didn't she come today? Is she alright?" he wondered. Numerous thoughts coming to his mind. "Gaadi kharaab ho gayi hogi uski... Or may be there is some important household work to be done... May be she has some family issues..." He couldn't stop thinking. "Accident?! No!! She shouldn't have met with an accident...!!" He was more worried now. He just pressed he accelerator and the car sped away.

Shlok and Rahul reached Aastha's home. Shlok parked his car near the gate. He immediately got out. He hurried to the door and rang the doorbell as Rahul rushed behind him.
"Shlok! What are you doing?!!" said Rahul. "Are you sure this is Aastha's home?!"
"Ofcourse I am!!" replied Shlok, waiting desperately for the door to be opened.
"How do you know?" asked Rahul.
"I have been here once...!" replied Shlok as he rang the bell again.
"What?! When?"
Shlok was about to tell when Kalindi opened the door. Ofcourse she did not recognize Shlok or Rahul as she had never seen them before.
"Jee kahiye?" she said on seeing two strangers at the door.
"Kya Aastha yahan hai?" asked Shlok impatiently. Is Aastha here?
"Uhm... Maaf kijeeye, maine aap logon ko pehechaana nahi..." sad Kalindi not sure whether she should tell them about Aastha. Sorry, but I didn't recognize you...
Shlok was about to say something but Rahul stopped him.
"Shlok!! Relax yaar..." said Rahul.
The word "Shlok" shocked Kalindi. Is he really "the" Shlok Agnihotri?!!
"Aunty" said Rahul, "this is Shlok, Shlok Agnihotri... and I am Rahul" he paused. "Actually..."
"Oh! Please come in...!" said Kalindi. She was a bit nervous to receive Mr. Shlok Agnihotri. "I am Aastha's mother" she introduced herself.
Ajju quickly went into the kitchen to get water for the guests.
"Please have a seat..!" said Kalindi.
"No, thank you!" said Shlok. "Is Aastha at home?" His eyes looking around for her. "Why didn't she come to office today...?" Shlok didn't let Kalindi speak. He went on, "She didn't even inform that she wasn't coming... I tried to call her but her phone is switched off... and..."
Rahul patted on Shlok's shoulder to tell him to be patient. Shlok realised he was speaking too much.
Just then Ajju came out with two glasses of water. They both sat down.
"Yes, Aastha is at home. She is not well. She is sleeping in her bedroom..." told Kalindi and before she could complete Shlok interrupted.
"Not well? Kya hua Aastha ko?" he was worried.
Kalindi told them that last night when Aastha returned, she seemed too tired. And then suddenly she fell down, unconscious. They called their family doctor immediately. Aastha had high fever. Doctor asked them to get reports of various medical tests for Aastha. Now the tests were done, and the reports were to be collected tonight from the hospital.
Shlok was relieved, for all his thoughts while driving remained as thoughts only.
"How is she now?" asked Rahul.
"She seems better, but now only reports will tell..." Kalindi said sadly.
"Kya hum Aastha se mil sakte hain?" asked Shlok. Can we meet Aastha?
"I will just go and check..." said Kalindi and left for Aastha's room.
Shlok was restless. By why? He didn't know exactly. He had never been so restless for anyone before. Why was he so worried? What was this fear? He didn't know... and right now he didn't want to know it! Right now, he just knew that he wanted to meet Aastha once.
Shlok and Rahul had water served to them.
"Maine landline par bhi call kiya tha... lekin phone hi nahi lag raha tha...!!" said Shlok.
"Jee... humaara phone do din se dead hai... Humne telephone company ko inform kiya hai... Ab ek-do dino mein theek ho jaayega!" told Ajju.
Shlok just recalled how tensed he had been when he couldn't connect the number. He sighed. Nothing is as bad as you had thought! He told himself.

Here Kalindi tried to wake Aastha up.
"Aastha..." she said. "Aastha look who has come to see you!"
Aastha was not feeling well. She still had fever. Without opening her eyes, she weakly said "Mujhe nahi milna kisi se..."
"Aastha, Shlok Sir aaye hain aur..."
"Shlok Sir?!" Aastha suddenly sat up. "Kab aaye? Abhi? Lekin woh yahan kaise aaye...? Aur unhein kaise pata ki main..."
"Aastha, wash your face and come down... Okay? Shlok Sir wants to see you. And there is some Rahul too with him..."
"Rahul Sir bhi aaye hain?!"
Aastha was surprised. Shlok Sir is here?! Why? Did I do anything wrong again? Aastha wondered. She quickly washed her face, brushed her hair, put on her sweater and slowly walked down. She was feeling very weak, but Shlok and Rahul's presence strenthened her at the moment.
Shlok and Rahul looked at her as she walked into the hall. With the support of the walls and the sofa, Aastha finally sat down.
"Bata nahi sakti thi tum?" yelled Shlok. Everyone was shocked including Aastha. "Couldn't you inform?! Ek phone nahi kar sakti thi?! Pata hai kitna pareshaan tha main! Number of times I tried to call you, but you phone is switched off! You landline is dead! How will we know what has happened?"
Kalindi and Ajju were stunned. Aastha just looked at the floor. "Sorry Sir..." she said in a low voice. "I know, I should have..." and she began coughing. Shlok quickly filled a glass with water and handed it to Aastha. Rahul saw how much Shlok cared for Aastha. Even Kalindi and Ajju didn't fail to notice that.
Aastha drank some water and felt better as Kalindi rubbed her back.
"Are you alright?" asked Shlok, worried.
Aastha nodded.

"Aap kya lenge? Chai, coffee? Kuchh khaane ke liye banaa doon?" asked Kalindi.
"No, thank you...!" said Shlok.
"Kuchh leejiye na please..." said Aastha. "Mujhe bhi khichdi khaani hai..." said Aastha making a sad face.
Rahul giggled as Kalindi and Ajju smiled.
"Don't you like khichdi?" asked Rahul. Aastha shook her head in "no" making an ugly face. Rahul smiled.
"Okay, I will also have khichdi with you!" said Shlok.
Everyone was surprised.
"No no, I will make something else for you both!" said Kalindi.
"Actually, khichdi would be great!" said Shlok. Rahul too nodded.
Kalindi had no other option but to serve khichdi to Shlok and Rahul along with Aastha. She couldn't deny.
Shlok began eating as soon as it was served. He did not wait for Aastha or Rahul to begin eating. After a while, Shlok noticed that everyone was staring at him. He became a bit nervous. He noticed that Aastha and Rahul had not begun eating.
"Tum log bhi khaao na...!" he said. Everyone giggled.
"You know Aastha, Shlok must be very hungry... He has not had his lunch today... just because of you!!" said Rahul making fun.
"Because of me?!" Aastha was confused.
Shlok tried to stop Rahul from speaking but Rahul continued.
"Yes!" said Rahul as Aastha, Kalindi and Ajju listened curiously. "Shlok was supposed to go home for lunch as Ajinkya Kaka and Aditi were coming for lunch. But, you did not come to office, your phone was switched off... So he waited thinking maybe you would come... And finally, after waiting for a long time, we came here!"
Aastha felt bad. She just glanced at Kalindi to tell her to serve some more khichdi to Shlok. Kalindi nodded and did the same. Shlok initially refused to have more, but Aastha urged him to. He could not deny. Aastha just looked at him as he ate. He was really hungry and gulped down the khichdi as fast as he could. He had no patience to wonder what others might be thinking. Aastha felt satisfied.
After some time, Aastha asked, "Yeh Ajinka Kaka aur Aditi kaun hain?"
"Ajinkya Kaka is Baba's childhood friend and Aditi is his daughter, my childhood friend!! I will be meeting them after a long time...!" replied Shlok.
"Woh log kab se aap ka intezaar kar rahe honge, aur aap yahan hain...!" said Aastha. "Aur Aditi pe gussa mut karna jaise aap humesha mujhpe gussa karte hain, bina wajah!" complained Aastha.
Rahul smiled. Kalindi and Ajju were clueless. Rahul went to the wash basin.
Just then Shlok's phone rang.
"Haan! Aa raha hoon thodi der mein...!!" he replied rudely and cut the call. "Yeh Mrs. Agnihotri bhi na...!!" he said shaking his head in irritation as he kept the phone in his pocket.
Aastha heard that. She felt bad for Anjali. Shlok noticed that Aastha had heard him say that again. He just looked away from her.

Shlok and Rahul got up to leave.
"Take care Aastha!" said Rahul with a smile.
Aastha smiled back and nodded.
"Take care..." said Shlok, "And eat something otherwise you will vanish in the air one day!" said Shlok. "And don't come to office till you are perfectly fine, understand?"
Aastha just smiled. Though Shlok always seemed stern and rude, he was kind at heart. Aastha knew it now.
Shlok and Rahul took their leave and walked towards the car. But next moment Shlok came back to say something. Aastha curiously waited to hear what he wanted to say and he spoke... but not to her.
"Khichdi bohot achhi thi...!" he told Kalindi and went back to the car.
Shlok and Rahul left.
Rahul knew that the real Shlok was slowly coming back... He knew it was Aastha who would bring Shlok back. Seeing the concern and the worry for Aastha in Shlok's eyes, Rahul was sure that Shlok had feelings for Aastha.

Here Aastha was very happy that both, especially Shlok, had come only for her. She felt alive. Happiness could clearly be seen on her face. Kalindi and Ajju looked at each other.
"Yeh tumhaare Shlok Sir kitne akdu hai na..." Kalindi said to Aastha purposefully.
Aastha immediately replied, "Nahi nahi Aai!! Woh toh bohot achhe hain!!" she said trying to clear here mother's misunderstanding.
"Achha?!" asked Ajju, teasing Aastha.
And Aastha understood that Kalindi and Ajju were making fun of her. She became shy and ran away to her room.

Shlok dropped Rahul to office and then went home. Before Shlok reached home, Rahul called Varad and told him everything that had happened. Varad told everything to Sojal and both were very happy that finally Shlok found someone who will make him normal again.

Shlok reached home and he was welcomed by none other than Aditi. "Shlok!!" she cried on seeing him. She came and hugged him. He didn't like that ofcourse. He didn't hug back. "Where were you yaar?!" she said, "We were all waiting for you!"
Shlok didn't reply.
"Hello Shlok bete, how are you?" Ajinkya said.
"I am fine Kaka" he replied and touched his feet. "Khush raho beta!" blessed Ajinkya.
Anjali came out. She was angry. "Shlok, where were you?! How many times did I call you...!" she said. "Come now, eat something!"
"I was busy in an important work!!" replied Shlok. "Aur mujhe bhookh nahi hai... main kha ke aaya hoon!!"
Everyone was surprised at the reply.
"I will come in a moment" he told others and went to his room.
Aditi stared at him as he went. He didn't even say 'hi'... he didn't even ask me how I am... She felt bad.
"What is wrong with Shlok?" wondered Niranjan.
Varad and Sojal just smiled... 'cause they knew very well what "important work" Shlok had...!!

Badle hue hain andaaz tumhaare,
Aaj kuchh toh zaroor hua hai...
Yun hi khilti rahe zindagi tumhaari,
Buss yehi humaari dua hai...!!
