Environmental awareness is gradually becoming an important part of everyday life, not only in homes and workplaces but also on television sets. Actor Shivam Khajuria, who currently plays Prem in producer Deepa Shahi and Rajan Shahi’s popular television show Anupamaa, believes meaningful change begins with small, consistent efforts.
The actor recently spoke about how working on a television set has influenced his approach towards energy conservation. According to Shivam, spending long hours on a set has made him more aware of the energy he consumes throughout the day and has encouraged him to be more responsible with his personal habits.
Talking about the impact that his work environment has had on him, Shivam said, “Definitely. Working on a set makes you realize how much energy is consumed throughout the day—from lighting and sound equipment to air conditioning and generators. It has made me much more conscious about my own energy usage and the small choices I make on set.”
The actor explained that television productions require several technical resources, including lighting systems, sound equipment, air conditioners, and generators. Being surrounded by these resources daily has helped him understand the importance of being mindful of energy consumption.
Shivam also shared a simple habit that he follows while shooting. He believes that small actions, when practised regularly, can help reduce unnecessary electricity usage.
Speaking about his routine on set, he said, “Whenever I leave my room to go for a shot, I make sure that all the lights and the air conditioner are switched off. It may seem like a small habit, but when followed consistently, it helps avoid unnecessary energy consumption.”
The actor pointed out that while the habit may appear simple, it can make a difference when followed every day. According to him, avoiding unnecessary electricity use is one of the easiest ways to contribute to energy conservation.

Shivam Calls For Greater Awareness Across The Industry
When asked about the steps production houses can take to make television shoots more environmentally responsible, Shivam stressed the need for proper planning and organised efforts.
Sharing his thoughts on possible changes, he said, “I think productions can start by implementing clear energy-saving policies and encouraging everyone on set to follow them. In the long run, investing in renewable energy solutions like solar panels could also make a significant difference in reducing the industry’s environmental footprint.”
According to Shivam, production teams can benefit from having defined energy-use policies. He believes that encouraging cast and crew members to follow such measures can help create a more responsible working environment.
The actor also highlighted the importance of exploring renewable energy options in the future. He believes that long-term investments in solutions like solar panels can help reduce the environmental impact of television productions.
Apart from suggesting structural changes, Shivam also expressed his wish to see greater awareness among individuals working in the entertainment industry. He believes that everyone can contribute through simple everyday actions.
Sharing the one habit he would like more people to adopt, Shivam said, “I wish more people adopted the habit of being mindful about electricity usage—switching off lights, air conditioners, and equipment when they aren’t needed. Small actions, when practised collectively by an entire crew, can have a surprisingly large impact.”
The actor emphasised that even minor efforts can yield meaningful results when practised by a large group. According to him, switching off electrical equipment when it is not in use is a simple step that can help reduce unnecessary energy consumption.
As discussions around sustainability and environmental responsibility continue to grow, Shivam's message focuses on the importance of everyday habits. Through his own routine and observations from working on television sets, the actor believes that consistent, mindful actions can contribute to reducing energy usage.
His thoughts serve as a reminder that small changes, when adopted collectively, can help create a more environmentally responsible future both on and off television sets.
