EK ANOKHI KAHAANI - Part 32

Shlok took Aastha to his car. "Get in...!" he said. Aastha was very confused. Where was he taking her? She stood at the door wondering. Shlok walked around to the driver's side and he was about to get in when he saw Aastha standing like a statue.

"Oh hellow!! I told you to get in...!! What are you thinking?!" he asked.

Aastha was clueless about what was happening and what was going to happen. "Where are you taking me?!" she asked nervously.

Shlok smiled and said, "Pehele baitho toh andar... I will tell you on the way...!!" said Shlok.

Aastha reluctantly got in and they moved to their destination.

"Tell me now atleast... Where are we going?" asked Aastha.

"To my home...!" said Shlok.

Aastha was surprised. "Your home?! What is so urgent?! I mean... why so suddenly... and... and why me?! And why didn't..."

"Aastha...! Shhh... Kitne sawaal poochhti ho yaar? You will know when we reach...!!" he said.

Aastha was surprised at his casual way of talking. He said "yaar" for the first time while talking to her. And she was pleased to hear it.

Both were quiet. Shlok was silently driving the car, frequently glancing at Aastha who was looking out of the window.

"What will Aastha's reaction be? Will she like it? Or will she not? I am sure she will love the surprise!! What will she think of me after that? Will everything still be the same between us? Or will things change?" thought Shlok. He was very excited to see Aastha's reaction after revealing the surprise to her.

They were on their way. Something was missing. That's what Shlok felt. But what? Something was not as usual. Shlok was trying to know what was so unusual. And then he realised... The silence...! Aastha hadn't spoken a word since a long time. She was constantly looking outside the window. She looked at him once and when he saw her she turned her face away. It was clear that she was upset. Was she angry that he forced her to come with him? Shlok wanted to know the reason for Aastha's strange behaviour.

"Aastha..." he said, "what happened? Why are you not saying anything?!"

Looking out of the window, Aastha bluntly said, "Nothing...!"

Shlok saw Aastha's fingers entangled in each other. She was carressing her own hand.

"Aastha" he paused, "I am sorry I held your hand and forced you to come with me... But..."

Aastha instantly turned to Shlok and said "I don't have a problem with that...!!" She again turned her face towards the window.

Shlok was surprised. "What?! She doesn't have a problem with me holding her hand...?!!" he thought. "But then what's her problem?" he wondered.

"Then why are you upset? Are you upset with me? Talk to me Aastha...!!" he said.

"You want to talk to me?!" said Aastha. She was hurt. "If so, why didn't you call me then?!!" she said. Aastha's sudden attack made Shlok press the brake. Shlok was confused. He didn't understand what Aastha was talking about. "You called Shikha Ma'am and not me...!! I am the event head. You should have called me...!! But no!! Who am I that you will call me...!!" she was looking at the dashboard as she spoke. Her eyes were partially wet. "Main kaun hoti hoon ki aap mujhse baat karna chahe... Shikha Ma'am is more important to you... I am nothing to you... Just another employee of your company... Just another girl... Why would you wish to talk to me?!!" And then she suddenly realised what she was saying. She bit her toungue. "Oh no! Yeh kya keh diya maine...!!" she thought. She slowly turned to Shlok. He was staring at her in surprise and confusion. She quickly looked away and closed her eyes in embarrassment. Her heart was beating faster. Her hands clutched her satchel tightly.

Shlok was surprised and angry too. "So you are upset because I called Shikha and not you, haan?!!" said Shlok angrily. "Where is your phone?!!" he hissed. Aastha opened her eyes and looked at Shlok. His angry gaze scared her. She just stared back at him helplessly. "I asked, where...is... your... phone?!!" he repeated. His strong voice scared Aastha more.

"Phone?!" she thought. "In m..my bag" she stammered.

"Take it out... Right now!!" demanded Shlok.

Aastha opened the satchel and fumbled through the things to get hold of her phone. She took out the phone and looked at Shlok as if to ask 'what now?'.

"Stop looking at me and check your phone!!" he ordered. Aastha pressed the power button to unlock the screen and was surprised to see "7 missed calls from Shlok Sir". Her jaw dropped on seeing it.

"Kya hua? Aan?!! Now say that I didn't call you...!! Why are you so silent now Miss Aastha?" he said sarcastically.

Aastha was ashamed. She didn't know what to say. "I...I am s.s.sorry Sir..." she said in a low voice. "Actually my phone was in my..."

Shlok interrupted saying, "Pata hai kitni baar phone kiya maine? It was you who didn't pick it up!! I kept trying and... trying...!! But no response...!!" he said.

Aastha remained silent. She knew Shlok was very angry and also upset that she blamed him for not calling her. She was afraid even to look at him.

"Please gussa mut keejiye... Mujhe darr lagta hai..." she said innocently. Please don't be angry... I feel scared...

Aastha's innocence chased away Shlok's anger in a jiffy. He looked at Aastha and smiled. "Darr lagta hai? Mujhse?" he asked naughtily raising his brows. Scared of me?

Aastha nodded in 'no' still looking away, and said, "Aap ke gusse se..." Scared of your anger...

Shlok smiled. "Okay... gussa nahi karunga...!! Look at me..." said Shlok. Aastha looked at him. "Do I look angry?!" he asked naughtily. Aastha just smiled.

"Don't be so happy...!!" he warned, "I am leaving you this time, but next time if you don't pick up my call, see what I will do...!!" he teased her.

Aastha kept smiling.

She kept her phone back into her satchel as Shlok ignited the engine and they moved on to his home.
