EK ANOKHI KAHAANI - Part 58

Aditi was walking past Shlok's room. She knew Shlok was not in his room. She went in and searched for the card she had made for Shlok. The card had fallen under the bed and Shlok never saw it. Aditi's eyes watered as she picked up the card. She was about to tear the card in frustration but she changed her mind. She went to her room and kept the card safely in her cupboard. She couldn't hold back the tears in her eyes. She sat on the bed, crying... cursing her fate. But now she knew that Shlok's happiness was with Aastha. She composed herself and wiped her tears. Standing before the mirror, she made sure she was looking fine, and then walked out of her room.

The house was quiet except for a few low voices. Though it was 2 am, everyone was awake. The atmosphere was mixed with a variety of feelings - there was happiness on one hand but sadness on the other. The air in the Agnihotri Mansion was filled with joy, sorrow, satisfaction, anxiety, jealousy, disappointment and what not! As Aditi walked through the passage, she saw Varad, Sojal and Rahul engaged in some serious discussion. She was about to go in and join them but her father's voice captured her attention. Aditi walked to the hall to see Ajinkya fighting for his daughter's happiness. Niranjan and Anjali felt very sorry for what had happened. They completely understood Ajinkya's position and they knew what Aditi must be going through at the moment. Things had become complicated. Aditi saw Shlok standing silently in the garden, all alone, lost in his thoughts. She wiped her wet eyes, took a deep breath and walked to her father. Ajinkya, Niranjan and Anjali suddenly stopped their discussion on seeing Aditi come there.

Trying to act normal, Aditi said, "Arey! Why did you all suddenly stop speaking? And why are you all staring at me like that? I am not a ghost!" she said laughing, to make the mood lighter. The others were not sure how to react. Aditi smiled and said, "Anyways, I have decided something..." Anjali and Niranjan exchanged glances and Ajinkya looked at his daughter waiting to know what she had decided. Trying to control her tears with great difficulty, Aditi declared, "I don't want to marry Shlok...!" Everyone was stunned to hear this.

"What are you saying beta?!!" said Ajinkya in surprise.

"Exactly what you heard Baba...!" said Aditi. "I have thought over it Baba... My marrying Shlok will ruin lives of all three of us - Shlok and Aastha will never be happy. And how will I live with the guilt of being responsible for their sadness and pain? If Shlok and Aastha get married to each, they both will live happily... and then I will be happy too!"

Though her eyes filled with tears, Aditi maintained that smile on her face to show that she was happy with her decision. Niranjan and Anjali couldn't believe what they heard... but it was true. What a sweet girl Aditi was! As Anjali went ahead and caressed Aditi's head, Niranjan said, "God bless you beta, God bless you!"

Ajinkya had tears in her eyes. He kissed his daughter's forehead saying, "I am proud of you my girl..!! I am so fortunate to have a daughter like you!"

Shlok left to meet Aastha early morning. He reached Aastha's home. Parking the car by the roadside, Shlok walked to the gate, preparing himself for the confrontation. He knew Aastha loved him and understood him very well. He was sure that she will believe in him. But Shlok froze at his place when he saw Aastha and Aakash hugging each other. He couldn't believe his eyes. He couldn't lift his feet to walk in through the gate. The sight in front of him had killed him. His mind and heart had almost stopped working. He stood at his place like a lifeless statue - not able to see, hear or understand anything. He then left the place, driving wildly back to his home.

Neither Shlok went to office, nor did Aastha.

The next day, Aastha reached office with her resignation letter. She handed the letter to Mansi at the reception and told her to give it to Shlok. Aastha left immediately. Shlok was shocked to see Aastha's resignation letter and he tore it off. He didn't want to let her go. He tried to contact her but in vain.

The recent happenings had disturbed Shlok a lot. Rahul decided to talk to Aastha. But he knew that she would not want to meet him if he went to her home. He had to make her come to office somehow. So, he suggested a celebration party for all the employees for the company's success in two important projects. Shlok was least interested and told Rahul to do whatever he wanted. Rahul was glad that Shlok didn't deny. Rahul urged Aastha to come as she played a major role in both the projects. Aastha reluctantly agreed.

Aastha reached office for the party. She first went to her cabin to see whether she had left anything there. She found a letter on the table. She was surprised to know that it was a promotion letter. She wondered whether her resignation letter had reached Shlok. She had told no one else, not even Shruti or Aakash, about her decision to resign. She decided to ask Mansi whether she had given the letter to Shlok.

Aastha reached the auditorium where everyone had gathered. She was searching for Mansi when Shruti came to her. Shruti was very happy to see Aastha there. They both began talking as if they had met after ages.

Rahul saw Aakash standing with his team mates. Rahul made up his mind to speak directly to Aakash. He was about to speak to Aakash when he was stunned to hear Aakash tell his colleagues, "I am going to propose her today!! She has received a promotion letter and I too! This is the perfect time to express my love, isn't it?" Everyone around him agreed and cheered him.

Rahul was shocked. Before Rahul could say or do anything, Aakash approached Aastha. "Aastha..." Aakash called out and Aastha turned to face him.

Rahul missed a couple of beats. "Aastha, please say 'no'... please say 'no'... please..." he kept praying.
