EK ANOKHI KAHAANI - Part 21

Aastha was in Shlok's cabin along with some other team members. Shlok had an important meeting tonight regarding the project. After the discussion Shlok told Aastha to update a particular file that he had to take with him for the meeting. Aastha nodded and went away with the file. After updating it, Aastha went to Shlok's cabin.
"Sir, I have updated the file... Aap ek baar check kar lijeeye..." said Aastha as she handed over the file to Shlok.
"I don't think there is any need to check it..." said Shlok.
Aastha was glad to know that Shlok believed in her work.
"But still Sir, it would be better if you check it once and let me know if there are any corrections or if anything needs to be added... I will do the necessary changes and..."
"Okay okay... I well check it and..." His phone rang. He signalled Aastha to wait and spoke on the phone.
"Jee Baba... okay... jee... okay, I will be there...!!" The call ended.
"I need to go home early today..." Shlok told Aastha, "I won't come to office again, I will directly attend the meeting. So you carry on with the work that we have discussed."
"Okay Sir!" said Aastha and left the cabin.

Later, when Aastha was about to leave the office, she just thought of asking Shlok whether the update was alright, as she did not receive any feedback from him about the file. She went near the cabin and then remembered that Shlok must have left early. And then something shocked her. She was staring at something in the cabin and her eyes widened realising what it was. The file!! Shlok had forgotten to take the file with him!! Oh no!!
Aastha tried to open the door but it was locked. She tried to call Shlok, but his number was busy. She hurried to Mansi at the reception.
"Mansi, do you have the keys of Shlok Sir's cabin?!" she asked.
"What?! Shlok Sir's cabin?!" asked Mansi.
"Yes!! Actually he has left an important file there... That file should be given to him before the meeing he has tonight!!"
"I have the duplicate key... but... Shlok Sir has strictly told me not to give it to anyone without his permission."
Aastha tried to call Shlok, but he did not pick up.
"Please try and understand Mansi... It is very necessary that Shlok Sir gets the file before the meeting...!!!" urged Aastha.
Mansi was still not sure.
"Okay, if anything happens, I take the responsibility. Don't worry. Shlok Sir will not scold you! Okay...?"
And finally Mansi gave the key to Aastha. Aastha quickly unlocked the door, got the file, locked the door and returned the key to Mansi again assuring her that she will not get into trouble.

Aastha left the office immediately. She sped on her bike to reach the Agnihotri Mansion. The watchman didn't stop her this time. She went in straight away.

Shlok was searching for his file. Ofcourse he didn't find it. Now he was tensed. "Where did I keep the file?" he thought. He searched all over the house. Just then he saw Anjali coming out of his room. He was very angry.
"Mrs. Agnihotri!!" He yelled. "Aap ko mana kiya hai na mere room mein jaane se?!!! Why don't you just stay away from my room?! Why don't you just stay away from me?!!"
Anjali was hurt by Shlok's words. She had gone to his room to keep a mug of Coffee for him.
"Give me my file!!" he demanded. "Kitni baar kaha hai maine ki meri cheezon ko haath mut lagaana... Lekin pata nahi aap ko samajh mein kyun nahi aata!!!" How many times I have told you not to touch my things, but don't know why you don't understand!!
Anjali was silent. Her eyes wet.
"Tell me!!" yelled Shlok. "Tell me where have you kept..." and he suddenly stopped noticing Aastha standing there at the door.
Aastha was shocked to hear all this. She just looked at Anjali with pity... Anjali left without saying anything.
Shlok was silent seeing Aastha there.
"Sir" said Aastha, a bit hesitant as she knew Shlok's mood wasn't good, "the file" she said as she showed the file to him. "You had left it at the office..." she told.
Shlok hurried towards her and took the file in hand. He quickly flipped through the pages to confirm it was the same file. He sighed with relief.
He noticed that Aastha was scared. He calmed himself down.
"Thank you" he said and left for the hotel where the meeting was to be.
Aastha stood there for a minute. She was shocked to see such behaviour from Shlok towards his mother. "He calls his mother "Mrs. Agnihotri"...!! How can anyone do this?!!" she was disgusted. And as far as Aastha knew her, Anjali was a very sweet and kind person. Then why was Shlok treating her in such a bad manner? Many questions were flooding into Aastha's mind. But right now, she thought it was better to leave the place before Anjali or others felt more embarrassed.

Next day, Shlok informed the team that the meeting was good and the clients were satisfied with the progress. As the team was leaving Shlok's cabin, Shlok told Aasha to wait. Others left.
"Thanks for getting the file to me..." he said.
"No problem Sir..." said Aastha.
"By the way, where was the file?"
"Here Sir, in your cabin..." replied Aastha.
"But I clearly remember I had locked the cabin... how did you get the file?" asked Shlok.
Aastha gulped in fear.
"Sir... uh... actually... I ... I got the duplicate key from Mansi..." said Aastha. And before Shlok could say anything, she quickly continued, "Sir, please don't say anything to Mansi... It is not her mistake... She was not ready to give me the key... but I forced her to...!! Sir please don't..."
"Relax!" said Shlok. He just got up from his chair and went out towards the reception. Aastha hurried behind him hoping that he did not create any trouble for Mansi.
Mansi saw Shlok coming towards her and Aastha behind him, worried. She knew something was wrong.
"Mansi!" Shlok said and Mansi stood up in scare.
"You gave the key to Aastha?!" he asked. Mansi just looked at Aastha. Both scared.
"S...sorry Sir..." said Mansi.
"Thank you!" said Shlok. "Good that you gave her the key, else we would have lost our client, probably..."
Mansi was surprised. Aastha was relieved.
"And whenever Aastha needs the key to my cabin, don't deny...!" Shlok told Mansi and went away.
Aastha and Mansi both just stared at his back.

Days passed. Everything went on "as usual"...!

Shlok was yet to return from office. Everyone else was there. Niranjan didn't miss the chance to tell everyone that Ajinkya was coming to Pune the next day.
"Ajinkya ka phone aaya tha... He is coming here tomorrow! He will reach Pune by 1 pm. He was thinking of going to his home from airport, but I told him to come here for lunch." told Niranjan.
"Yeh aap ne achha kiya...!" said Anjali. "It will be great to have them here for lunch...!"
Niranjan smiled.

Later during dinner, when everyone was sitting around the dining table, Niranjan told Shlok to come home for lunch the next day.
"Shlok, kal dopeher ko khaane ke liye ghar aa jaana..." said Niranjan. Come home for lunch tomorrow...
Shlok was confused. "Kyun?" he asked. Why?
Niranjan and Anjali looked at each other and smiled.
"Ajinkya Bhauji and Aditi will be coming here for lunch tomorrow...!" told Anjali.
"They are in Pune?!" asked Shlok surprised.
"They are coming to Pune tomorrow and will come here directly, for lunch. So make sure you are here by 1 - 1:30." told Niranjan.
Shlok nodded.
Kavya was very excited that guests were coming. "Aur chachu, woh Aditi aunty hai na," said Kavya, "woh yahan shaadi ke liye aa rahi hai...!"
No one had expected Kavya to speak about it. Niranjan and Anjali's eyes widened.
"Shaadi ke liye?!!" Shlok was confused.
Varad quickly held his hand over Kavya's mouth. Sojal tried to handle the situation.
"Woh kya hai na" said Sojal, "Aditi's friend is getting married. So Aditi will be attending the marriage. Kavya must have heard about it... That's what she is telling...!"
Everyone agreed to convince Shlok. Varad signalled Sojal appreciating her presence of mind!

Next day Shlok went to office. He went to the reception.
"Has Aastha come?" he asked Mansi.
"No Sir, not yet" replied Mansi.
"Okay, tell her to meet me as soon as she comes!" he said and went away.

It was lunch time. Shlok checked his watch. He had to go home for lunch today as Ajinkya and Aditi were coming.
He went to the reception.
"Mansi, why haven't you sent Aastha to me yet?!" he asked.
"Sorry Sir, but Aastha hasn't come yet" told Mansi.
"What?! She hasn't come?!" Shlok was surprised. "She is never late..." he thought, "why hasn't she come yet?"

Shlok waited for some more time. But now his patience was over.
He took out his phone and called Aastha. But her phone was switched off. "Now why has she switched off her phone?!!" he thought. Something clicked in his mind. "Aakash...! He might know!"
"Mansi, call Aakash here!" told Shlok.
Mansi was about to call Aakash, but then she checked the register...
"Sir, Aakash too hasn't come today!"
"What?!" exclaimed Shlok. Now Shlok was angry. Aastha and Aakash both were not here.
"If she didn't want to come today, she should have informed atleast!! Aur yeh Aakash, uss se toh yeh ladki roz duss baar milti hogi... Usske saath jaane ki kya zaroorat hai!!!" Shlok said in anger. More than angry, he was jealous that Aastha had gone with Aakash.
Rahul heard Shlok.
"Arey Shlok, what happened?" he asked.
"This Aastha hasn't come yet...!!" said Shlok.
"There must be some reason Shlok... Chill!!"
"Pata nahi uss Aakash ke saath kahan chali gayi hai...!!!"
"What?! Aastha is in Mumbai?!" asked Rahul, surprised.
"Mumbai?!" said Shlok confused.
"Aakash is in Mumbai with his team mates for the conference. But why did Aastha go with him?!"
"Conference? Oh!!" Shlok felt relieved. "No, then Aastha must not have gone with him ofcourse...!"
Rahul could clearly see that Shlok was jealous of Aakash being with Aastha. He just smiled to himself.
"But then where is Aastha?" said Shlok thinking.
"Arey yaar, she will come... " said Rahul.
"Mansi, just give me her landline number...!" said Shlok.
Rahul just watched how desperate Shlok was.
Mansi quickly searched Aastha's records on the computer and gave Aastha's landline number to Shlok.
Shlok dialled the number but he could not connect. The line went blank. He tried again but got the same result.
"Phone switched off hai, landline lag nahi raha hai... yeh chakkar kya hai?!!" Shlok was restless.
"Shlok!! Just relax!" said Rahul. "Check the time Shlok, it is almost 4 pm!! Everyone must be waiting for you at home!!"
Shlok was busy trying to call Aastha.
"Shlok, I will see why Aastha hasn't come, okay. Right now you go home! Ajinkya Kaka and Aditi must be waiting to meet you!"
"Unse toh main baad mein mil loonga yaar..." said Shlok. He had recieved a number of calls from home already. But he could not stop thinking about Aastha's absence.
"Come, let's check at her home...!" said Shlok as fear gripped him.
"Arey you crazy?!" asked Rahul. "Aur tum itna pareshaan kyun ho? She will come yaar..."
"I don't know yaar... I am just not feeling good..." said Shlok.
"Are you coming with me?" asked Shlok as he walked towards his car.
"Arey lekin uska address toh dekh lo!!" said Rahul as he went along.
"I know her address!" said Shlok getting into the car.
Rahul was surprised. "Hmmm... something is cooking between Shlok and Aastha...!!" he thought as he got into the car.
But now, seeing Shlok worried, Rahul too was a bit worried about Aastha.

Shlok pressed the accelerator and the car sped away.

Jaane kyun hai dil pareshaan...
