Chapter One ' The train.

"There's a storm brewing up North, won't take too long to get here. I advise you to go home where it's nice and warm, you'll be safe. There's always some strange men wandering around at this end of the night, especially when there are no trains arriving for a while." An elderly man spoke whilst sitting on a rusty, old bench. His stubble was glistering white and you could tell from his eye bags that he had not slept peacefully for a long time. "By the way, didn't your parents prevent you from going out this late? In my days, which were long before any of these new technology and what not, my parents wouldn't let us stay out so long. Of course, I was young and wild and I loved the thrill of rebelling against the rules." The man chuckled slightly, reminiscing his past, the way it was so easy to just laugh the pain away.

"My parents?" A voice spoke out ever so quietly from the shadows. The voice, belonging to a young girl stuttered whilst sitting on the bench. Her long, sleek hair flowed beneath her shoulders; her chocolate brown eyes were full of dry tears. "I don't know where they are, how they are. All I know is that I need to find them. I have to ask them why they left me." She coughed out a cry before consoling herself to be strong.

"Life is so strange. The one you want to find plays hide and seek with you. But, if you wish hard, you'll find your answers hidden deep in the lies. Believe me, I've been there." He half-smiled.

The girl looked up, a perplexed expression on her face. "Meaning you had to find your parents too?"

"Not exactly, I had to find my path, my goal, like how your goal is to find your parents. Like I said, I was such a rebel in my young days, believe me. I ended up having very dark days."

"Meaning?"

"Look at me and tell me what you think of my character."

The girl thought for a bit, biting her lip in thought. "Hm, you are very nice, and thoughtful. But, behind this persona there is something else. Your eyes tell a different story, as if you are hiding a dark truth. Like, something had happened? And you are leading this life when it could have been different."

"Hm, you are on the right lines." He smiled at her. "When I was younger, I wanted to be like every typical boy. I wanted to be popular, everyone to adore me. But what I got was so much worse. I ended up becoming a drug addict."

"What?" A gasp escaped from her mouth.

"I know, how could this happen right? But, I got so absorbed into popularity and the greed for it that I took drugs to fit in with the crowd. And when I lost my best friend from it, I realised that my path was to give up this way of life. And I tried hard, believe me. Being a drug addict is not a good thing, you end up having withdrawals which is what I suffered from for so long, and then I fell in love with a girl who I loved more than the aspect of drugs and popularity itself. She helped me become a better man. And when you put your mind to something and wish from the heart, your wish will come true. If I never gave up drugs, maybe I would have lost more people than my best friend."

A slight tear fell from the girl's eyes. "You are very brave."

The man chuckled. "My friend was the brave one. He was the one that overdosed on the drugs that I had, just so he could stop me from killing myself. Little did I know that he would be the one to lose his life." He looked at the girl's face becoming sad. "What's your story?" He asked.

She wiped the tears whilst replying, "I've never seen my parents, except in pictures. No one ever tells me what happened to them, only that when I was born, they left me with my aunt and uncle here in Rishikesh and then just disappeared. I was looking through some old photos of my parents when I saw a letter addressed to my mother from her friend. It was your usual informing letter about family life and all, but when I asked my beeji about this friend, she asked me to forget all this. And then, an hour ago I heard her talking to my Madan uncle about the incident. She told him that I was young and nave that I should be kept away from these truths. What could I do? They won't tell me anything about my parents because I'm tooyoung? I'm 21!" She stopped for a second to breathe. "And then I couldn't take it anymore, so I packed my stuff and took that letter and came here to find that friend. Please, Uncle don't get annoyed at my childishness, I know I was wrong to leave without informing but what could I do?"

"I won't say anything, dear. Live your life the way you want to, I have no right. But I will say, that the path to your destination will be long and tiring, just like mine was, are you ready to accept the challenge?"

"Yes, Uncle. I am. Anything to find my parents, anything."

Just then, a shining bright light emerged from the dark scenery symbolising a ray of hope. A train arrived sending a wide smile on the girl's face.

"Is this the path you're taking?" The man asked.

"Yes, Uncle. This is it, the train. The train to Chandigarh!" She exclaimed happily.

"Take care, child. May your wishes be fulfilled." He blessed her and told her to get on the train to Chandigarh.

Looking back, she smiled at him and then shouted, "You are very nice Uncle! Maanvi Chaudary will never forget you!" And with that, she was gone.
