Chapter Twenty Eight: Mystery

The two partners woke up to the sunshine glistering in their room. Realising that it was nearly noon and that they overslept, they rushed down and checked out. Viraat drove his car back to the compartment of flats from the day before.

They knocked on the door, praying that the landlady was here. Suddenly, the door opened and an elderly woman answered.

"Yes? May I help you?" She said politely. She was wearing a simple plain dress, her hair completely tied back, her look complete with glasses.

"Erm, are you Ariana Morelli?" Maanvi asked.

"Yes, this is me." Viraat and Maanvi sighed a relief at her reply. "Do I know you?"

"Actually Mam, we came yesterday to meet you but your maid told us to come the day after."

"Oh right. You were those two right?"

Maanvi nodded, "I need your help." She said sweetly.

Ariana Morelli looked at Maanvi helplessly and gave her a sweet smile, "Okay darling. Come inside." She gestured them in.

"Come on, sit down." She told them to sit on the sofa while she took the chair opposite. She called out her maid to fetch tea and snacks.

"Now, my darling. How may I help you?" The woman asked at Maanvi.

"We need your help. Actually, I'm here to find my parents. And to find my parents I need to find their friend." The woman listened intently. "And we don't know where she is. But Viraat," She looked at Viraat. "Viraat found out that my parents and their friend lived in flat no.101 and flat no.102."

"And you need me to help you find information?"

Maanvi nodded. The woman sighed.

"But listen sweetheart, so many people come in and out. There are some records that I put down for financial purposes but apart from that I won't be able to help you much."

"That's fine. Whatever you can think of or remember please help Maanvi." Viraat said softly. Ariana nodded, "Okay. Maanvi what are your parents name?"

"Mahinder and Jhanvi Chaudary. They've lived in flat no.102 from February 1989 to November 1991." Viraat showed Ariana the paper of information.

"And this is their friend, Palak Malhotra." Viraat said.

"Palak…" The woman said trying to remember her. "Oh yes I remember! It was a long time ago but one night around March of 1990, Ms Malhotra came to me begging for a place to stay. I took pity on her and showed her this flat. She was so…disturbed that night. As if something bad had happened to her."

"Did you know what?" Maanvi asked curiously.

Ariana shook her head, "No. Palak Malhotra was a very strange woman. She never talked to anyone, well until your mother befriended her. Some time after, they had become really close friends and Palak Malhotra seemed more normal. You know what I mean?"

Viraat and Maanvi nodded.

"Maybe your parents were expecting you at that point of time. Jhanvi was pregnant but I also noticed Palak was. And then I don't know what happened, every thing was a bit of a blur. You were born during November right?"

Maanvi nodded, "I remember one night in the middle of November when there was an incident. Jhanvi had fell down or something and you and her was both in danger. Whilst taking her to hospital, Palak was having labour pains. And after that, no one knew what happened. A week later, I get a call that the flats are to be vacated but neither Palak, nor your parents ever came back here again." Ariana had a worried expression on her face which gradually softened. "Well, atleast every thing was okay with you and your mother."

"But did you ever find out what happened to Palak's child?"

"No. I just assumed that everything was okay. Maybe, who knows? Strange, I never once saw Palak's husband, but I thought of her to be either widowed or divorced. Or maybe even unmarried. Anyways, you wanted some old records right?"

Maanvi nodded. "Okay, hold on." Ariana left the room.

"Everything will be okay, Maanvi. Keep your faith." Viraat assured her.

Ariana arrived with a thick folder. "Okay, I usually write down the former address or a relative's address of the client in here. You know for safety purpose. Okay, now Palak Malhotra…" She looked intently at the information until she came to Palak's details. "Okay, here she is. The address here is a place in Delhi. I think this was her family's residence. I'm not sure."

Ariana handed Maanvi the address. "Thank you so much for helping us." Maanvi said. "if it wasn't for you then maybe…"

"No worries, child. God help you find your parents. Mr and Mrs Chaudary were one of my best clients. My blessings are with you."

Maanvi and Viraat walked out of the flat thankful of the new information they had just acquired.

Oh ok so now i'm having a more stronger feeling tat Manvi is dis palak's daughter n i dont noe y bt i also feel tat palak is Padmini... May be she changed her name or it got changed aftr marriage... Bt wer did des to chaudhry's go missing?? Oh so now virman will head to delhi?? Gr8 so dey'll be spending more tym together... Whao!! Thanx for pm n cont soon dear... W8ing for da nxt part:)
