Chapter 6: Accident Revelation

Jeevika Vadhera opened the fridge door and looked inside in apprehension, wondering what to cook for dinner. She noticed the vegetables on the side and decided to cook a vegetable dish, smiling as she remembered that it was also her husband Viren's favourite dish.

"Today, I'll cook this. Virenji will surely love it." Taking the vegetables out of the fridge, she started preparing, making sure not to burn anything. Satisfied with the result - the delectable aroma roused through the crystal clean kitchen – Jeevika went to the living room where the women of the house sat talking.

"Hey, Jeevika. Come sit with us." Vanshika patted the seat next to her on the couch, signalling for Jeevika to sit.

"Is everything cooked for dinner?" Swamini asked.

"Yes, Buaji. Everything is done." Jeevika replied cheerfully.

"That's good. Where's Maanvi?" asked Vanshika.

"In her room – no, Viraat's room," Jeevika corrected herself, then realised that it sounded more wrong than she had intended, "I mean, upstairs." Embarrassed, she ceased her sentence with the two women grinning.

"We know what you mean, bahu. Maanvi seems like a nice girl." Vanshika stated. "Hope Viraat learnt his lesson last night."

"Ma, what had happened? I didn't understand, how did Viraat hit her?" Due to Maanvi's plight, Jeevika had taken up the role of getting Maanvi back to good health therefore she didn't quite understand how Viraat had managed to hit her.

"The thing is Jeevika, you know Maya right?" Jeevika nodded at Swamini's question. Sure, she knew who Maya was. Everyone in the Vadhera house knew who she was, after all Maya Madam didn't enter or leave the house without any noise. She was the ultimate attention seeker and a wannabe model and unfortunately, on Jeevika's thoughts, Viraat's girlfriend. Viraat and Maya met in college, back when Maya thrived to achieve popularity and high status whilst Viraat, one of the most elite and popular student, caught the sight of Maya leading to their friendship and abrupt loving relationship. Jeevika remembered the time she had met Maya for the first time, when Viraat introduced his bhabhi to Maya on her birthday. The once good-natured girl had turned into a vivacious power hungry animal as soon as she set her eyes on Viraat's hefty inheritance. From that second, Jeevika knew that Maya was not the one for Viraat; her modern persona was more cheap than elegant, with Maya opting to wear flesh revealing clothes rather than traditional wear, completely contrasted to the Vadhera's traditions. Of course, the elders had allowed Maya and Viraat's relationship as they believed in personal choice, and letting the youngers make their decisions wisely. But, that didn't mean they likedMaya.

"Yes, Buaji. Viraat's girlfriend."

"Ex-girlfriend." Swamini corrected. Jeevika's eyes widened, "when did this happen?"She thought. Both of them were happy just two days ago, what could have happened between then?

"What? How?" Jeevika asked.

"The same old story, Maya and Viraat had an argument as always, and in anger she broke up their relationship." Swamini shook her head in despair. Even though, she disliked Maya she wanted there to be someone for Viraat just like Viren had Jeevika.

"What? What did Viraat do?" Jeevika was speechless.

"What could he do?" Swamini replied, "He left hers late in the evening and wandered around in his car, same as he had done before, except this time he didn't know when Maanvi came into view and he hit her before he could hit the break."

Vanshika nodded, agreeing with Swamini's story. "Maanvi came under his anger but when he realised what he had done, he brought her here and the rest you know."

"I can't … I can't believe it Ma." Jeevika said. "Why did Maya even…?" She didn't even know how to end the sentence, sure she was speechless at their break up, but she was also a bit glad that her devar had finally escaped from Maya's clutches. After all, she cared about Viraat's future and the reputation of the Vadhera's.

"I don't know," Swamini said, "but when I saw Viraat with Maanvi in his arms, her blood on his shirt, I saw him for the first time with genuine feelings. I mean, like he actually cared for her." She stopped, thinking deeply.

"Yes, you're right." Vanshika replied. "I saw that too. Before Viraat hid his feelings so well that even we, his family members didn't know his sadness to his happiness. But last night, even I sensed that Viraat was truly remorseful. His guilt ridden eyes were visible as soon as he stepped through that door."

"I just hope Viraat finally gets his happiness, for real." Jeevika said.

The three women immersed into their conversation for the rest of the house whilst upstairs Maanvi was drawing up a plan of her own – her revenge!
