Chapter Thirty Four: Could it be love?
The day went passed slowly. Viraat gave clear descriptions of the men that tried to attack Maanvi and Viren, using his lawyer status had managed to find those goons. He was sure that they would get couple of years in prison and that many lives of innocent women would be saved.
Everyone now and then Viraat would stay with Maanvi, she had caught a fever due to her plight and was soon recovering after many prayers and a visit from the doctor. The next day, the Vadhera brothers were getting ready to leave but Viraat was reluctant to leave Maanvi.
Viren managed to get his family to allow Viraat to stay for Maanvi and Jeevika's sake, whilst he went back as he had to work. Viraat never left Maanvi's side, only to eat and visit the washroom.
"Viraat." Maanvi called out rasping for water. He quickly poured water from the jug into a glass and carefully made her drink it. She opened her eyes and coughed slightly. She looked at him looking at her. She smiled.
"Why are you smiling?" he questioned.
"I don't know. I'm just happy you're here with me." He grinned.
Just then Jeevika came in astonished that Maanvi was awake. "Maanvi!" She ran to her and sat besides her.
"Hi di." Maanvi said with a smile.
"You're okay." Jeevika breathed out, kissing her forehead.
"Of course I'm fine, after all your devar saved me." Maanvi said with pride.
"Viraat if you weren't thereā¦" Jeevika started to say until Viraat interrupted her.
"Please bhabhi. Don't." He looked at Maanvi, "Those guys have been caught, bhai is making sure they get a hard punishment."
Maanvi smiled, "Well look on the bright side, what nearly happened to me meant that so many girls will be safe now." She giggled.
"Stop it Maanvi. I'll never let anyone hurt you." Viraat scolded her with a growl.
Jeevika smiled, "My devar has changed so much."
Viraat shrugged. Jeevika left them talking as she went to her room to talk to her husband.
"Long day huh?" Viren said.
"How are you?" She said wishing he was in front of her rather than back in Chandigarh.
"Forget about me. You okay? Are you taking care of yourself and the baby? And how is Maanvi?" He rambled on.
"I'm fine Virenji and the baby is fine. I can't believe such a big incident happened so suddenly. Maanvi is okay now, Viraat is with her."
"Hm, thank god for Viraat orā¦"
"Hm.." Jeevika went silent. "Virenji, I want to ask you something."
"Yeah?"
"Don't you think Viraat has changed? I mean, he's much more mature. He kept his anger today when he could have hurt those men for what they were thinking of doing to Maanvi."
"That's true. Even I thought he'd want to fight them or something. But I'm glad he hadn't. If he got hurt then Maanvi wouldā¦"
"Maanvi would? What Virenji?"
"Jeevika, don't you think Virat has changed ever since Maanvi came into our life?"
Jeevika thought of a bit, "Iā¦I think soā¦"
"When they went to Mumbai, they were together. And now. He protected her. If he got hurt then Maanvi would have gotten hurt⦠Jeevika do you think that Viraatā¦"
"Loves her?" Jeevika said suddenly.
"Yes, what if this is the case?"
"Are you sure?"
"Look, how many days/weeks whatever has it been since Maanvi came?"
"I'm not sure about a month?"
"Okay, and in this month how much has Viraat showed his anger, or disrespected someone?"
"Never."
"Exactly! I'm sure he loves her!"
"But Virenji, if Viraat loves Maanvi, does she love him too?"
"That I don't knowā¦I have an idea."
"What?"
"You talk to Maanvi about what she thinks of Viraat, without saying the real reason. And when Dadaji, Ma and badi Ma come to Delhi, I'll ask Viraat."
"But are you sure it'll work?"
"I'm positive. Can you believe it? Viraat and Maanvi! My to be saali!"
"I can't believe it. If it's true then my adopted behen will now become my real devrani!"
Viren chuckled. "Okay, I'll talk to you later. Love you."
"Love you too."
Jeevika turned off the phone and smiled. She was really happy that Viraat loved Maanvi, well according to Viren's words. And she was excited about what Maanvi thought.
Whilst walking to Maanvi's room, she found that her and Viraat was still talking. She shook her head laughing, and decided to give them some privacy and went to her mother to talk.
"Viraat, I think we should visit the house that Ariana Morelli gave us. We might find out anything about Palak Malhotra."
Viraat shook his head, "No. Maanvi. I agree that we should do what we came here for but right now your health is much more important."
"I'm fine Viraat. Don't worry about me so much."
"I'll always worry about you." He breathed out.
Maanvi smiled blushing. "Wellā¦I'm fine. We should go."
"Okay fine. But later okay? Everyone is coming from Chandigarh tomorrow to visit aunty and uncle."
"Tomorrow? Then it wouldn't be okay for us to go." Maanvi thought for a bit before looking up at Viraat, "Okay, we'll go when everything is sorted. That way we'll be able to get the work done and you'll be able to be with your family members."
"Hm." Viraat nodded once not knowing what else to say.
"Erm, I should call Beeji. I haven't called her in days soā¦"
"Yeah, urm.. I should go." Viraat went out of the room to give Maanvi space.
Quickly dialling the number off by heart, she waited for someone to answer.
"Hello?" Beeji asked.
"Beeji!" Maanvi exclaimed.
"Maanvi, you called after ages? How are you?"
"I'm fine Beeji. You? How is Chachi, chacha?"
"We're all good. And the Chandigarh people? Erm, Vadheras? They're treating you right, right?" Beeji said worrying.
"Yes Beeji. Like I said they treat me like a family member! And you know how Jeevika di is, speaking of whichā¦guess what? Jeevika di is going to be a mother!"
"Really? That's good news!"
"Ha, and I'm in Delhi right now. Actually Jeevika's parents live here and she wanted me to come."
"Delhi?" Beeji started to hesitate.
"Yes Delhi. You know Padmini aunty and Siddarth Uncle are so nice, they treat me like their daughter!"
"Who?"
"Jeevika's parents. Padmini and Siddarth Sharma." Maanvi said as a matter of fact.
"Oh, that's nice." Beeji's voice started to fade. "Erm, Maanvi? I'll talk to you later. Bye." She switched off without waiting for Maanvi to reply.
"What was that about?" Maanvi said to herself but was distracted by Padmini calling her.
She left leaving her phone, unaware of its decreasing battery.
Secrets are starting to unfold. And soon everything will be out. Thanks guy for reading on and the next part will be a MAHA chapter! Over and out!
Chapter Thirty Five: The past
"Madan!" Beeji called out frantically. Madan came downstairs and saw his mother concerned.
"What happened ma?" He asked. "Is everything okay?"
"Madan, everything will be ruined. We wanted to hide one truth from Maanvi but I fear that she'll find out another truth."
"What? How?"
"Madan she's in Delhi right now. DELHI. You know the Vadhera's that she lives with?" Madan nodded, "Their bahu has taken Maanvi to Delhi to meet her parents. Her mother is Padmini. Padmini Sharma."
"What? Ma are you sure this is the same Padmini Sharma?"
"I'm sure Madan. My heart is saying so. I'm very scared Madan. Maanvi won't be able to tolerate this truth."
"We have to take Maanvi away from there."
"Yes. Madan call Maanvi. Before she finds out anything, we have to take her from there."
"Okay, I'll call her and make up something." Madan tried to call Maanvi but was left with a message.
"Ma, I think her phone is off."
"That's not good. Madan. We have to go there." Beeji rushed off to her draw to find an address book.
Finding Padmini's address she gave it to Madan, "Madan this is the address. We have to get Maanvi."
"Ma, I'll get the train tickets."
Beeji nodded and left Madan. She wandered around the room contemplating about what to do. This is what she feared, Maanvi finding out the one thing that she thought had been hidden forever.
*Flashback*
"Ma!" Jhanvi called out waiting for Beeji to open the door.
"Jhanvi? Mahinder?" Beeji said looking at the couple. She noticed a new born baby in their arms."Baccha?"
They hurriedly entered the house. Pinky and Madan had gone out to Pinky's maayka with Badi Beeji with only Beeji in the house. She had heard the news about Jhanvi's accident but wasn't able to contact anyone.
"Ma, this is Maanvi." Jhanvi said giving Beeji the newborn Maanvi to hold.
Beeji smiled as Maanvi slept peacefully. "But, you had an accident right?"
Suddenly Jhanvi went quiet. "Yes ma. It's true. This is Maanvi. But not our Maanvi."
"Then whose?"
"Padmini's."
*Flashback ends*
But not our Maanvi. These words stung in Beeji's ears. She couldn't believe it. Maanvi was going to find out about her true parentage. Something that she, Madan, Mahinder and Jhanvi had hidden from her.
She quickly walked out of the house, telling Pinky that her and Madan have gone out for something. Pinky watched confused but decided to let it go.
"Madan, what happened?" She asked noticing that Madan was still at the ticket area.
"Ma, there are no trains to Delhi right now."
"What?"
"We have to wait until the next morning."
Beeji said a little prayer with the hope that they find Maanvi before the truth finds her.
Meanwhile, in Delhi the Vadhera's arrived early in the morning to Delhi.
"Aap yaha?" Padmini asked opening the door.
"Actually Padminiji, we couldn't wait and decided to come and visit you lot and Jeevika." Dadaji said looking at Viren who was embarrassed.
Everyone chuckled at the sight of Viren wanting to come to Delhi to meet his wife. Padmini and Siddarth made everyone feel at home.
Jeevika and Maanvi went to the kitchen to make tea for everyone. Whilst Maanvi placed the cups, Jeevika started to boil water.
"Maanvi, what do you think of my devar?" Jeevika asked innocently.
"About Viraat? What do I think of him? He's annoying, a chep, kabab mein haddi, but honestly speaking, he's one of my closest friends. I mean, apart from you of course." Maanvi rambled on blushing.
Jeevika smiled, she had an inkling feeling that Viren was right and that Maanvi and Viraat are made for each other.
"But why are you asking me this?" Maanvi asked curiously.
"Erm," She struggled to think of what to say, "Just."
"Di, what happened?"
"I can't do this." She muttered to herself.
"Kya?"
"Virenji told me to ask you whether or not you like Viraat." Jeevika blurted out and suddenly covered her mouth with her hands and muttered a "drat!"
"What? Jiju told you? Viraat?" Maanvi said shocked.
Just then the tea started overflowing from the saucepan and Jeevika turned the cooker down. She ignored Maanvi, not knowing what to say and started to fill the cups with tea.
"Di." Maanvi ordered. "Tell me."
Jeevika obediently stopped what she was doing and faced Maanvi with a guilty face.
"Actually, me and Virenji got talking about you and Viraatā¦and..."
"You were wondering whether I like him?" Jeevika nodded. "I don't know." Maanvi replied with a smile. "He's amazing, sweet, caring. Every thing and more. But I don't know whether or not I like him." Maanvi faced Jeevika, "Di. I don't even know what love is."
Maanvi looked down confused. "I'll tell you." Jeevika replied. "Love is when you can't live without a person. It's like time slows down and each minute turns into an hour. You become restless when you are even a second away from your pyaar." Jeevika reminisced about Viren whilst Maanvi thought about the day when she got separated from Viraat.
"Does that mean I love him?" Maanvi asked.
"Close your eyes, and who is the first person you think of?" Jeevika asked.
Maanvi did as she was told, she closed her eyes and instantly an image of Viraat flashed in front of her. His smile, his winks, his hugs. She saw everything.
"I love him." Maanvi whispered. She opened her eyes, "I love Viraat?" She said almost questioning herself. She did love him, she just didn't realise it. She smiled at the memories they spent together.
"Let's go take this before everyone asks what happened." Jeevika said taking the cups of tea.
"Wait." Maanvi stopped her. "I can't go in front of Viraat now. I have to tell him that I like him. But what if he doesn't love me back? Oh god." Maanvi said without stopping.
Jeevika calmed her down and then helped serve the tea. She locked eyes with Viren and gestured him towards Maanvi, indicating that Maanvi confessed her love. Viren grinned and told her that he'd ask Viraat when they get a chance to be alone.
Viraat asked Maanvi for his tea but she suddenly got conscious that it was Viraat asking her for tea, she gulped and quickly served him a cup, not meeting his eyes.
"Are you okay?" Viraat asked softly.
"Hm? Yeah yeah." Maanvi said and quickly moved away.
The family members were talking with themselves, not taking any notice of what was happening between their children.
"Actually, Padminiji we were thinking of visiting the mandir. We have to ask for blessings for Viren's and Jeevika's baby right?" Vanshika asked.
"Yes, that's a good idea." Padmini replied, "We should go there."
"So, how about now?" Dadaji asked.
"Yes, the earlier the better. After all, Jeevika should get all the blessings as possible after all, I am eager to play with my grandchild!" Siddarth said excitedly.
Everyone made their way to the nearest temple, Viraat tried his best to talk to Maanvi who was eager to dodge him. Meanwhile, Viren wanted to talk to Viraat about Maanvi but each time he did, either Swamini or Padmini would call him to stay with Jeevika.
Viren sighed, and looked at Jeevika. "Looks like it will have to wait till later." They smiled and looked ahead and prayed for the betterment of their child.
