Chapter Three ' Kismat Connection
"Lying there, fighting for air is not pretty. Nor is lying there unable to move, unable to think about what happened. You lie motionless as you fail to understand what was happening. And then someone helps you up, protects you and whisks you away to safety. Is this man my saviour? Or is he simply a fallen angel?"
"Ugh." Maanvi said as she came around from her unconscious state. She carefully opened her eyes, wincing as the bright light came into view, quite harshly. She wondered what happened when the flashbacks commenced. A black car, pain and lots of blood. She gasped as she looked around the room; it was fairly large, well much larger than her Rishikesh bedroom. It was somewhat masculine, a treadmill on the corner, dark wooden floors and a deep red coloured bed that she was in. She tried to get up when the pain of angst hit her, and she pummelled into the soft cushions.
"Ouch," She cried, wincing as she touched her forehead which was covered in a bandage. She was in pain, but she was curious to where she was. Maanvi forced herself to get up grimacing as her paining leg trod on the floor. "Where am I?" She asked herself.
Maanvi took a step forward when her leg collapsed, making her fall straight into the floor, she groaned. Suddenly, a figure came into view as the chestnut door opened, looking in shock at Maanvi's plight.
"Are you okay?" The woman asked as she helped Maanvi get on the bed. She was quite young, atleast in her early twenties, her long sleek hair lay on one of her shoulders, her colourful suit complimented her smile. She wore a mangulsutra and sindoor, and Maanvi thought of her to be the daughter-in-law of the family. She had a warm persona to her, even if she was worried about Maanvi.
"I'm fine." Maanvi whispered, not exactly sure why she replied like that. She felt a connection with this woman, like a sisterly connection.
"How are you fine? Look at yourself, you're hurt." She said, her words breaking.
"No." Maanvi said as she sighed and took her hand out of the woman's. "I'm fine. I just need to get out of here."
"Now? It's midnight, you can't go out!" The woman declared with a sense of authority, or perhaps even protectiveness.
"I'll be fine, I just need to go." Maanvi protested, getting out of the bed.
The woman stopped her and forced her into the bed, "Get better first and then go, okay?" She smiled at Maanvi who was unsure of what to say.
"You never said your name." The woman asked.
"M-Maanvi. Maanvi Chaudary." She stuttered, looking into the woman's humble eyes.
"Maanvi, I'm Jeevika. Vadhera's house's daughter in law." She smiled and caressed Maanvi's forehead.
"Hi.." Maanvi spoke. After a minute of silence, Maanvi asked, "What happened to me? How did I get here?"
Jeevika remained somewhat unsure. "I, my brother in law accidently hit you with his car and you were bleeding and unconscious. He was scared of what to do so he brought you here rather than the hospital."
"Oh." So, someone did hit her. And that person was the one who helped her up as well.
"The doctor observed you whilst you were sleeping and he gave you these pills to take for the pain, you'll be fine in no time." Jeevika gave Maanvi a white coloured tablet and helped her to consume it. "I'll see you in the morning." Jeevika said, "Good night, take care Maanvi." She spoke.
"Bye."
It wasn't long until Maanvi fell asleep, the medicine helped to soothe her sore body and her mind, if that. She was happy to have someone like Jeevika to help her, even if Jeevika's brother in law was the one that hit her. But that was another story anyway.
