Author's Note: My THIRD update of the day, so don't hate me when I don't update for a week or so! Hehehe. Whatcha think will happen? REPLY REPLY REPLY!!

Chapter Sixteen - Daal Mein Kuch Kaala Hai

Maanvi walked back to the kitchen with a sad tone. Jeevika noticed this straight away, "What happened Maanvi?" She asked.

Maanvi remembered Virat's bet and decided not to tell Jeevika, but then again it was Jeevika and she couldn't not tell her. "Actually…" Maanvi narrated the bet and the consequence, "So now I have to play his wife. What a strange devar you have man!"

Jeevika laughed.

Maanvi glared, "Not funny, di."

"Sorry Maanvi, but what to do? I have to laugh."

"Seeing as you're Jeevika di, I have to forgive you." Maanvi gave her a slight hug before pulling away, "So, what are you cooking?"

"I was thinking of making daal (lentil soup), the other dishes are done for lunch." Jeevika said washing the lentils.

Suddenly, Maanvi had an idea! "Di, leave some aside okay?"

"Why?" Jeevika asked.

"Well, I have to cook for my husband right di?" Maanvi grinned.

"You know what, I'm not even going to ask." Jeevika laughed.

For the next hour, Maanvi decided to cook the lentils, leaving some aside for Viraat whilst Jeevika heated the roti's. The family members had arrived and were instantly taken aback by the sweet aroma of the food. Maanvi watched as the servant, Tarun placed the plates on the table, she found it strange at how the Vadhera's had servants to do jobs like this but then again they were proud of who they were and this was probably just another tradition.

Viraat gestured Maanvi to place the food on his plate, even if she wasn't his real wife, he wanted to have some fun with her. Maanvi internally groaned, oh great, in front of his family members as well. And he'll never let me go, seeing as he's Viraat and all, she thought to herself whilst she towered over the seated Viraat and placed the lentil soup that she had put aside for Virat on his plate.

"Je thank you." Viraat teased, whispering.

Just a couple more hours, Maanvi, she assured herself and smiled back. She was about to sit down when she reached over and whispered, "Je Suniye, please enjoy the dhal that I have made." She said with a fake shyness, after all he did say she had to act as his wife.

The rest of the family were engrossed in their daily conversation, so didn't notice Maanvi and Viraat's avatar, well everyone except Jeevika and Viren, who Jeevika had informed about the bet. Maanvi eyed Viraat as he dipped his roti into the soup and placed in his mouth.

Maanvi bit her lip, not wanting to smile. Now, here comes the fun, she thought.

Viraat started to cough, and reached out for the glass of water and chucked it down his mouth.

Swamini noticed, "Are you okay Viraat? Is it hot?" She said apprehensively.

"It isn't hot at all," Dadaji stated looking at the teary Viraat, "Maanvi made this dish very well."

Viraat tried to smile, he knew what Maanvi wanted to do, make him repent for making her his wife, oh sorry, his fake wife. But, for Viraat Vadhera, that phrase was not in his dictionary. "No, no Dadaji. Maanvi made it so nicely, how can I find it at fault?" He looked towards Maanvi who was rolling her eyes, "Like people say, hot food for a hot guy." He smirked.

"Hai ni, who says that?" Kadambari asked, thinking.

"In the English encyclopaedia of phrases, there is no such quote." Shlok stated.

Viraat looked at Shlok and half scoffed. "Shlok, you probably missed one. And after all, not all phrases have to be written, some are just for ears only." He looked over at Maanvi, indicating their little whispering ear scene earlier.

"But bhai," Shlok objected.

"Shlok, is the food nice?" Maanvi interrupted, getting annoyed at Viraat's teasing.

"Yes, Maanvi di it is very nice. I wish I had this sort of food every day. After all, being Indian is our pride and joy. In the great war of –"

"Shlok, is this a history lesson? Eat. Eat." Viraat told.

Viren looked over at his brother, and then to his food. "Yummy food. Maanvi, what amazing food you can make. And Jeevika, what amazing roti's you make. So nice and round." Viren joked. "Didn't my wife make nice food, Viraat?" He said emphasising on the wife.

Viraat, understanding what Viren was talking about and how Jeevika must have told him about the bet, "Yes bhai. Wives do make the best food don't they?" He said, winking at Maanvi.

"Hai ni, I didn't understand anything." Kadambari said whilst looking at Inder, "Inder, you never complimented my cooking before! Look at sweet Viren, and look at you?" She said, wriggling her nose.

Inder started to speak, but decided against it, after all he'll make up with Kadambari later, as always. Being so busy working, he didn't get time to go out with his wife much, but decided to take his family out for dinner tonight.

"Bauji, I was wondering if we should all go out to eat tonight." Inder spoke.

Bauji drank the glass of water before replying, "Good idea Inder, after all it's been ages since we've been our favourite Chinese restaurant. Let's go there, everyone."

Memories of the night and the Chinese food came back and Maanvi suddenly interjected, "No, No. I don't want to go."

"Why? Is everything alright, Maanvi?" Swamini asked.

How can I say that I hate Chinese? I can't make them change restaurants for me, can I? Maanvi silently groaned. Jeevika understood Maanvi's plight, "Buaji, actually Maanvi's leg was aching and I told her not to go out today." Jeevika lied.

Swamini nodded, "Yes. That's right."

"Bari Ma, you lot go. Me, Jeevika and Viraat had gone with Maanvi before. I think you all should go tonight, we'll be fine." Viren said.

Swamini started to object, "But Viren, are you sure?"

"Yes bari Ma, trust me. We'll be fine." He assured her.

After everyone had ate lunch, the men minus Viraat had decided to go to the office whilst Viraat went out to meet a friend. Hours later, the family got ready to go out to the Chinese restaurant, leaving just Viren, Jeevika, Maanvi and Viraat. Nothing can go wrong, right?

Author's Note: Have you ever been in that situation where one wrong move can destroy a friendship? Like, when you're pretending and joking about, but misunderstandings make them otherwise? Something like this had happened to me, me and my friend were joking and then I didn't know when or how that joke had turned into something serious and now we don't talk to anymore: it's just too awkward. So I tried to put that into VirMan, sort of, please don't hate - the drama just needs to be unfolded and I just feel it was going a bit too slow. Hope you enjoy! By the way, NEXT chapter is a *Maha Chapter* as in it will be about 2000+ words, (which is a lot seeing as most of the previous chapters are only about a thousand)!

Chapter Seventeen – Your Parents

After the family left, Viren took Jeevika up to their room.

"So Wifey." Viren said as he held Jeevika in his arms. "I love you." He whispered into her ears.

Jeevika laughed, "So you had to take us up here just to say that?"

"That's not right." He said.

"What?"

"You have to say that you love me back." He persisted like a little kid.

"Nope."

"That's not right as well."

"Never." She smiled.

"Okay then I take my I love you back, then." He folded his arms and sat on the bed with a sad face.

"Okay darling. I love you." She said, "Better?"

"Nope."

"Now what?"

Viren pointed to his cheeks and gestured for her to kiss him. Without any hesitation, Jeevika placed a delicate kiss on his cheeks, only leading to him gesturing her to kiss his other cheek which she does.

The whole love birds treasure their moment together, unknown to what was happening downstairs.

"So, wifey. Nice food you served before." Viraat told Maanvi.

Maanvi hesitated, it was another thing being with people, but now they were alone she was a bit apprehensive of what may happen. But, then again she is Maanvi Chaudary and Maanvi Chaudary doesn't get scared that easily.

"Liked it?" She made a face.

"Love it." He stated, walking around her, like a circle.

Maanvi smiled in tease, "For useless people like you, only bakwas is to be given." She looked at her nails, ignoring him. Viraat took no notice, only walking behind towards her, close enough that his lip was on the tip of her head.

"You really shouldn't call me that, darling." He whispered sultrily.

Maanvi turned around and looked up at him. "We're not married." She stated, folding her arms across her chest. "Don't call me darling."

"So? When do we have to be married to be each other's darlings?"

"What?" Maanvi gave him a look.

"I like you. You're different."

"Oh ho, I hate you."

"You love me really." He teased.

"Let's think." Maanvi scratched her head before replying, "Nope. I still hate you." She started to ignore him, turning away from his sight.

Viraat followed her around before he got annoyed and pulled her by her arm towards him.

"Viraat! What are you doing?" Maanvi shouted before pushing him back with all her force. Maanvi closed her eyes and calmed herself down. "Just stop it. Just because you're a Vadhera, doesn't mean that you can mess around with me. Who do you think you are? You do anything that you want and when someone doesn't listen to you, you get annoyed. What the hell man?" She shouted.

"Who do I think I am? Maanvi, didn't your parents teach you not to shout before hearing someone else's story?" He glared at her but then stopped. Tears fell from Maanvi's eyes at the sound of the words your parents, where were her parents? All she could hear was that phrase ringing in her ears, she had nearly forgotten the reason that she can to Chandigarh in the first place, to find her parents, she had gotten so involved with Vadhera's and Viraat that she completely forgot. Maanvi closed her eyes and started to hyperventilate before calming herself and running to her room leaving a very confused Viraat.

"What the hell have I done?" he said to himself, Viraat punched the walls with his bare knuckles, but the pain he had given Maanvi was less to this. He didn't know why she became so upset, he didn't even know her but in these last couple of days, he felt as if he had known her for years. He liked everything about her: her spunky attitude, the way she says what she wants to say, her smile, her everything and in a matter of minutes he had made her cry? What was wrong with him?

He had never felt this angry with himself, not even the first time he and Maya broke up. And that was over something stupid like her being late for their date, but this time he was unknown to the reasons, which only made him even more angrier. Viraat felt concerned about Maanvi, no he was protective of her. Ever since he had nearly killed her with his car, he had that feeling that everything that was happening was because of him, and that he had a feeling to take away all her pain. Sure, he joked about with her but that was because he felt so much at ease with her: being in a family of high prestigious lawyers, he never really fitted in apart from with his brother and bhabhi. But when Maanvi arrived, it was as if he was experiencing something new, something he hadn't felt before. But this was all futile right now seeing as his friend was upset, and he just had to do something.
