JUST A STORY

SHE

A gentle breeze blew a few dry leaves.

A ripple slowly danced in the small pool of water .

A crow cawed at a distance.

The rocking chair moved just a fraction .

A long slender finger tapped absently against the wooden arm.

The finger nails were neat but unpainted. A little pale.

A lock of jet black hair moved with the breeze and fell across a fair cheek.

A single tear formed in the deep grey eyes and seemed to stop as long black lashes tried to hold them back.

But the Tear won and rolled down.

The sheet of paper which was held loosely in other hand blew away as a gust of wind appeared from nowhere.

She tried to grab it , but it floated away .

She watched as it picked up speed , bounced on the dry path and settled on the wooden fence.

She made no move to get up to reach for it. She watched . She felt deep sadness. She closed her eyes.

The pencil made a sharp noise as he relentlessly tapped it against the table. The tip broke and he swore under his breath.

The plush chair hardly made a sound as he twirled and looked out through the beautiful arched windows.

He loved his new home. An ancient palace which stood at the edge of a lovely village.

The green paddy field seemed to stretch far into horizon, he watched as a lone cow grazed lazily, the sun was shining warmly, the tall coconut trees swayed. Everything is so peaceful he thought, with a sigh.

The sudden honking of a passing truck made his lips curl slightly, a little irritated dimple played on his cheek.

His concentration broken , he remembered, he did not want to. But the memory crept in like an unwanted guest.

He twirled away from the window a little angrily, calling out to his trusted Man Friday, Nandan.

He needed a hot cup of coffee. Really hot.
