Ruhi Ishita and Raman - The dawn

Three pairs of eyes doused in tears. All of them feeling sorry for the same child. The power of visuals is indeed strong. Raman was sipping his tea and Ishita her coffee when they saw their faces splashed in the newspaper the morning following the hearing. Raman teared up looking at his Ruhi. Ishita was forlorn in the picture and as she was now as she was walking over to her disagreeable neighbours door. Raman was crushed to see that Ruhi had tears but tears for Ishita!

He was surprised himself; he looked through his own see hackneyed ego and and wondered what he could do to bring a smile back on his daughters face. Ishita across the floor instinctively knew that Ruhi had to be out of Ashok and Shagun's care; with her, with the Bhallas if she were to be secure. She had thought of nothing when she dashed across to fetch the little girl that was saving a tiny puppy from under screeching car tyres. She would do the same now. She buzzed the door bell. Looked at a morose Raman took his hand and got him to her car. He quietly followed the erudite Ms.Iyer who seemed to mean business this morning.

"Raman I have caused a lot of damage to Ruhi by believing her mother. Whatever I saw last evening at Ashok's residence and in my clinic has made me understand my folly. I want to set it right.I know I'm suggesting suicide but sometimes the risk is worth it! Especially if it will put a smile on a Ruhi's face! Raman looked up at her for the first time when he heard Ruhi's name. He also noticed that they were driving towards the Judge's enclave.

The judge who was hearing Ruhi's case was unbelievably favourably disposed towards Ishita. That was good thought the not so guileless Raman under these circumstances.

" Why are we here Ishita?" Raman asked her. "I told you I am suicidal" she said and " anyways it means nothing to a man of your nature ...but i now know that you are a good father". So please play along" she finished.

They were shown into the Judge's residence by the maid. They were waiting in the verandah of the aged but stately building. The Judge walked in with a smile. She graciously accepted Ishita's apology for disturbing her morning and agreeing to see them. " Maam thank you very much for understanding our anxiety. Like i told you earlier this morning I know now why Raman was so angry with me earlier" she said with a sad smile and misty eyes. Raman was speechless. He was distinctly uncomfortable with Ishita sitting so close to him and her hand on his thigh!

" I had completely misjudged Raman and Shagun and Raman's proposal she said as she beamed and looked into his eyes. Raman needed no cue to stare into her eyes concerned which appeared sincere to the Judge. " I understand" she concluded lets meet at the chambers she said. And Ms.Iyer "please remember this meeting stays private and you came here to attend to my toothache". She said as Ishita handed her a prescription. " "Thank you maam" they said in unison. Walked towards Ishita's car holding hands. As they reached closer to the car Raman put his hand out and Ishita handed him the key. She climbed into her seat. Raman drove in silence through most of the way back. Ishita was crying into her tissue. Raman squeezed her knee every time she choked on her tears, lifting it off the gear shaft.

It seemed the most natural thing to do! A couple just found each other through tears and in the silence of the car.
