Part 13 Befuddled date

Ishita was shocked to see her hands and gripping Raavan Kumar's hands and she was even more surprised to see herself next to a "smiling in his sleep" Raman. She recollected going to sleep in the midst of her conversation with her husband. She did not remember what it was about though!

She stretched and got on with the morning stuff. The house seemed really quiet today thought Raman when he walked out of their bedroom. Ruhi had an early start at school, the entire Bhalla clan had left with her - the seniors had taken her to school while the siblings had left for the day.

An empty quiet house was rare and Ishita too decided to enjoy it while it lasted. Not that she did not enjoy the family she was happy to be left alone in the morning.

She sat on the empty dining table with her feet on the chair and freshly painted toes. Her hair was all tucked into a bun while there was one stray strand flitting across her fresh as a dew drop face. A coffee mug on a hand and the other busy scrawling some notes on to a note pad. She was a vision of domestic bliss to Raman who was walking out of his bedroom looking at her. He did not even realise how taken in he was of her untill he knocked against the table while he was walking to the centre table to grab the paper staring at Ishu.

She looked up at the noise. "Hi Morning Coffee"?? she asked. " I'll get my tea" he nodded. Ishita went back to her note making. Raman had barely joined her at the table with his tea and breakfast while she looked up again and asked him " can you drop me off at the clinic before you head to work?" " Sure when do you want to leave" he asked. " anytime that suits you I worked really late last night so I can go in when you are ready and I don't want to rush you". "hummm .. I was thinking of taking a short con call from home and the leaving in an hour Ok for you" he asked. Suits me fine she replied.

Raman was still on his call when Ishita walked back into their bedroom to grab her suitcase. She seemed irritated while he saw her struggling with the Zips of her suitcase. She threw up her hands in frustration and she stormed out. He was just about wrapping up his call when he saw her walk back into the room with a whole lot of files and books she checked the clock and realised that she had another 30 mins before they would be ready to leave and got back to work.

Raman was distracted ..she must be doing something really important he realized when he saw her poring over her books to make more notes. She looked kind of cute he thought with a pencil in her bun holding her long hair in place, not a scrap of make up and still in her PJ's. He did not notice the eyeful he could have seen every time she leaned forward on the bed to reach over to one of her many open books. He gaze did not drop below her soft curvy lips. He still found like that when he was all dressed and ready to leave. " Aur waqt lagega kya tumhe?" he asked. " No i'm ready to leave" she replied. He lifted his eyebrows and looked at her PJ's pointedly. " I'm fine if you are" he said. " oops" she said and she ran across to her amma's house she was back in a jiffy looking sharp. He had never seen her in anything other than the boring sari's today she walked in looking like CEO he noticed with a smirk. Black pants, neat shoes and a smart collared pin tuck knee length kurthi and her hair all bunched up tucked she did not look anywhere like the Ishita he married! He smiled his way to the car, amma and she seemed to exchange more hugs today while appa walked in with some prashad in his hand. He put a tikka on her forehead and on Raman's " yeh viboothi hai Raman" " boori nazar se protect karega aur tumhe mentally strong banayega" appa said. Thankyou appa Raman said, deciding to wipe it off before he got work and after he dropped off Ishita.

They shared a silent ride with Ishita. She seemed to have knitted eyebrows and seemed to be a completely different place mentally. "Thank you bye! " she said, she seemed to be a little hesitant held Raman's gaze longer than she normally would as if she seemed to want to say something he thought. She looked at him again smiled and said " thank you" before she walked off armed with her bag and her notepad.

Raman smiled at her swaying back...just like Romi stared at Mihika's but Raman looked at her with curiosity more than anything else. She felt different today..not just about what she was wearing something had changed inside and between them he just could not put his finger on it.

Raman went to work singing in his head. His day flew and for some reason his surprised employees were happy to see a happy Raman as that meant that fewer files flew out of his room and lesser nervous people in the office.The place seemed buoyant for no reason. Mihir was really happy to see the change and decided not to ask him about it.

Around lunch time again Raman thought of Ishita. He recalled that Ishita did not get her lunch from her amma that day as he went about his lunch. He got back to work and decided that he would call it a day and head home. He wanted some Ruhi time and the best thing about being your own boss sometime was that you could up and leave on an impulse he decided.

Ruhi was thrilled to have her dad pick her up from school. They headed home for an evening of fun and sploshing around the house. It was close to 10 and there was no sign of Ishita. Her clinic had called home to let him know that she was still at work and would head home once she was done.

Raman tucked in Ruhi for the night and Ishita was still not home. He was all stretched content watching TV with no biwi around when he realised that her car was home and that meant she would have to take a ride to get home. That did not feel good with him. He swung out of his bed walked over to Amma's house with Ruhi tucked her into her chitthi's ( Mihika's) bed and told them that he was going to fetch Ishita.

When he reached the clinic there was commotion. Ishita was at the reception talking animatedly to someone at the reception. " Sorry madam...mai sharabhi hoon, par wo maine jo bhi kiya wo saab uss Ashok sahab ne mujhse karavaya". Raman's ears pricked at the name and he broke into a jog to get to Ishita. She looked straight at the man wagged her finger at him " mujhse kyoon mafi maang rahe ho, muhje apan kyan rakhna ata hai, apne bacchi ke bare me bhi nahi socha na..aage so kaun karege teri madad. Bacchi ka istammal kiya hai thumne chhiii.."she said before turned walking into Raman. He held her and looked the man behind her. Looked at her again. " Aur der lagega kya " he asked her still holding her. " Do teen patients hai 30 ,40 mins tho lag he jayega. Phir se cap???" she asked "nahi mai theek hoon tumhe pick karne aya tha" he said. "Don't bother I will come by myself. Ruhi so gayi na" she asked and he nodded a yes in reply. She walked back to her clinic while Raman decided to tail the man and have him talking.

The poor guy blurted everything out - Ashok asking him to meet his lawyer about Ishita, how he threatened Ishita with the lawyer's help and his subsequent change of heart after his wife explained how Ishita had actually helped the child by taking care of her waiving her fees and hospital charges. He was very sorry now "par main ab kya kar sktha hoon shahab wo lawyer saahab ne hee case karvya..maine sirf sign kiya muhje to pata bhi nahi tha ki yeh saab ho jayega."

Raman needed no more information to see where Ashok was getting and why he was targeting Ishita now. He wanted to ask Ishita more on their drive back home he was still thinking of where to start when Ishita looked at him and asked him " todi dher wahan uss corner par stop kar sakte ho mujhe na wahaan se kuch leke aana hai bohot bhook lag rahi hai. " Tum bhaito main kuch leke aata hoon , sandwiches?" he asked " nahi kuch spicy chahiye" she said. He restarted the car again and drove into hotel nearby and steered her to a formal south indian restaurant. "Raman yeh jagah itni formal hai aur aap yahan muhje kyun lekhe aye ho wo bhi itni raat ko? aur kudh ko dehko apne ghar ke kapadon me" she whispered. "Relax Ishita, yeh log mujhe jaante hai." he said.

Raman watched a ravenous Ishita make quick work all that she had ordered over his cup of coffee. It was clear that was her first meal for the day. He was playing with his coffee cup when he asked her " tum aise coffee bana sakthi ho?" she raised her eyebrows reached for his cup and took a sip " yeh filter coffee hai amma ke yahan to ye roz banthi hai...humare yahan filter nahi hai na...to answer you of course I can make it" she shrugged as she went back to her meal. A small smile crept up Raman's face he turned his cup and sipped out of where she last sipped. She was charming in her own way he concluded.
