The rough ride ahead

Raman and Ishita reached the court. Ruhi walked in with Ashok and Shagun. She seemed overwhelmed. Ashok and Shagun were stunned to see Ishita as Mrs. Raman Kumar Bhalla. The proceedings came to a point where Ruhi had to declare her choice. With her bowed down and an almost inaudible voice Ruhi picked a surprised Shagun mama". Ishita was left shattered while Raman was left stunned.

Ashok gloated and Shagun was happy that her desperation on she Ishita married to Raman was short lived. The decision Shagun thought would go Ishita and Raman's way now went her way! Raman was numb with realisation. Ishita was shattered. But it was Ruhi that was devastated and the little one hugged Shagun looking away from Ishita. She was quickly whisked away while Raman and Ishita were walked to the car by Mihir and the fathers.

Ishita sat next to Raman, she had not noticed how tightly she hung to his arm, or how she was soaking up his sleeve neither had Raman noticed it. Mr.Bhalla and Mr. Iyer had lost their voice till they reached home. Mihika,Romi, Toshiji, Ishita's mom and dad Mihir, Simi and the baby and of course Ishita and Raman were all there in the living room. It felt like death even the baby was quiet.

Mr.Iyer was the first to compose himself and speak. He walked up to Raman. He touched his shoulder and said " beta I'm sure koi to raasta hoga! Speak to the lawyer first aage ki sochna. Is baar hum sab milke sochenge." " Pichile baar jab un logon ne Aditya ko mujhse alag kiya tab bhi jhoot bol rahe the aur ab bhi jhoot hi hai yeh sab... " Raman mumbled. " Ishita aur apko laga tha na ki mai hi galat hoon...I was not at fault last time. This time too Shagun's lie was stronger. I had no connections or money last time. Iss baar mai unko chodoonga nahi. I now know what it is to lose your daughter. You will not lose yours Mr. Iyer" he concluded looking at Ishita. Ishita was in her own private hell she heard nothing of this. A tearful Mrs. Iyer walked over to her house.

Toshiji continued to cry through all this in silence. Romi tried to comfort her while Mr.Bhalla and Mihir were talking quietly trying to think of what to do next. Mr. Iyer walked upto his daughter he shook her gently and told her " Ishita you scare me...Ishu this not the first time that you have been hurt ...you are a strong girl Ishita. You have been through so much Ishu...but your amma and I have never seen you cry or breakdown Ishu...You are a very strong girl Ishu.." he concluded to a stone faced Ishita. " Ok appa". she nodded and headed out of the living room to walk into Raman's room. Raman saw her in a corner of their bed, staring at the wall when he came over to pick up his lap top. He headed out with Mihir to the lawyer's office.

It did not seem all that hopeless now. His lawyer told him that there were other possibilities. It would be unlikely that the court would grant Shagun sole custody. Ruhi would still be able to visit her father and his family on weekends. They could always appeal. The lawyer told Raman that there was more research that would be needed to strengthen their case but it could all be reversed he promised.

When Raman got home his mom and dad and the rest of the family were at the dining table with Mrs. Iyer serving them their dinner that she had brought along. Raman walked into his room and noticed Ishita sitting still and staring at the wall like when he had left. He threw his laptop aside a walked over to freshen up and change. Ishita was still staring at the wall. This time he could not hold back he walked to her and told her that all that the lawyer had told him. " Jaanthi hoon, I'm sure ki woh humare pass aa jayegi, you will bring her back. Paar, imagine what that little child would have to go through. She is too small to know ...that she is... even, that she is heart broken...And Raman " she said grabbing his arm " hamaari Ruhi...wo bilkool akeli hai" she said before she threw her arms around him, crashed into him and sobbed her heart out. Raman too could not hold it any longer, he hugged her tight and cried softly into her hair.

Toshiji peeped in, to call them over for dinner, she found the couple crying together. She came back to her living room, sat down next to Mr. Bhalla and said " aap ne na Bhallaji teek hee kiya...Ishita ko bahu banakar ...aab mera puttar akela nahi hai".

THe couple inside continued to cry on each other till they were completely exhausted and they had dropped off to sleep in each others arms. Ruhi had brought them together - but tragically by not being there.
