Earlier I used to think that it was Sonakshi who was like Harry Potter. But now I feel it is actually Dev who is Harry Potter. And the current episodes are kind of leading towards this dialogue by Dumbledore in the book Deathly Hollows towards the end when Harry thinks he is dead -- "Would I?" asked Dumbledore heavily. "I am not so sure. I had proven, as a very young man, that power was my weakness and my temptation. It is a curious thing, Harry, but perhaps those who are best suited to power are those who have never sought it. Those who, like you, have leadership thrust upon them, and take up the mantle because they must, and find to their own surprise that they wear it well."
The way Ishwari or Sonakshi or any of them behaving towards Dev reminds me of the serial/story "simhasan battisi". In that the Raja Boj wants to sit on the throne of King Vikramaditya. But as he approaches the throne he finds that in each step there is a doll which questions him regarding his suitability to ascend that throne. Where he has to prove with each step that he is indeed worthy of that throne. In KRPKAB, several of the characters have tried to occupy the throne(pedestal). Ishwari tried by being the "goddess" to Dev, by trying to control and change his as well as the Trixits destiny as per her will. But finally realized that she is just a person.
Same with Sonakshi. She wanted to prove that she is perfect and that she never made any mistakes. That she is always right and hence wanted that pedestal where everyone validated her as perfect. But she too failed. It is also the case for maami and Vickky. They too wanted to change destinies and gain things that didn't belong to them. They also wanted that pedestal where Vickky wanted to be the "bada aadmi" and maami wanted everyone to say she is no different than Ishwari. She wanted to be called the maker of Vickky like how Dev gave that respect to Ishwari and told everyone that all his success is because of his mother.
Bijoy too wanted to be the perfect man -- a perfect father, a perfect son and a perfect husband. He wasn't happy either when he found that he isn't perfect as he thought himself to be. Elena too wanted to excel as best bahu and best wife, something that she considered as the roles where Sonakshi failed. She too craved for that accolade.
But in all this, Dev never really sought to be perfect in anything. He wanted to try to be best and gives his everything for the role, but never said he didn't make mistakes or that he wasn't wrong. He easily accepted his fallacies and always tried to make amends for his errors. Now that all the others are realizing the blunders they have made in trying to be on the pedestal, they are also finding that it is actually Dev who belongs there. By virtue of his traits. They want him to be like God who is kind, generous, forgiving, and one who fulfills all your wishes. Dev is unwilling to climb that pedestal. He doesn't want to be divine, he wants to stay human. He wants the others to accept that he feels pain and gets hurt because of their words and actions. The others don't want him to feel that way. They fear that if Dev can throw Vickky out without forgiving him for his mistakes, then Dev might do the same with us when he realizes how wrong we were. That we trusted Vickky and not him.
I also like the names of Dev and Ishwari. Ishwari wanted Dev to be like "Devrath" always fulfilling her desires his whole life. She didn't really want him to have his own life just like Bhishma. She also wanted to be like "Ishwar" who can change anyone's destiny. She really enjoyed having that power with her. But failed to realize that she is not "Ishwar", but "Ishwari". The other unique thing is once again Dev. Usually lord Shiva is referred as "Mahadev". Here if you remove "Maha", you have Dev. 😃 . And he can indeed change destinies. Like when he forced Sonakshi to work in IN or the way he changed Ranveer's life or even Vickky's. Just like Shiva, Dev also considered Sonakshi as his equal and gave her that place in his life and considered her his better half. Shiva is the only God, who gave half his body to his wife and became "Ardhanaarishwara".
I will truly miss KRPKAB and all these nuances that go with this show. It was a very unique experience, one which I don't think I will ever forget this serial or the lessons I learnt from it. I am thankful to everyone who helped me become a better person with a better understanding of life and relationships. I really enjoyed the journey and also the insight of so many wonderful writers who brought out the hidden shades of the story. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for giving me this opportunity to be part of something so beautiful. 😃
