Welcome to the weekly analysis thread, where we dissect the heck out of the characters, situations, and the possibilities for the leap! This thread is dedicated to in-depth character and story analysis in this new phase of the show. Let's explore how the show, in its complexity makes us think. We leave the thread open-ended so that we can discuss varied topics with each other in a more informal way, and new thread begins every Sunday evening for ongoing discussions as the week unfolds. If you are interested in this exercise, jump right in!

_____________

Everyone is invited to join as long as they avoid:

1. Moral policing. This thread should be an inclusive and safe space for people to express their views. This is a work of fiction and multiple interpretations only make it a richer experience. If something about the show makes you uncomfortable, be open to the idea that you might be missing the necessary perspective that someone else could provide.

2. Bashing CVs. Criticism is welcome, but should be focused and constructive.

3. Bashing the characters, or pitting them against one another. If you think either the Dixits or the Boses are entirely right, and the other entirely to blame, this is not the thread for you.

And most importantly...

4. BASHING OR PERSONAL INSULTS OF OTHER MEMBERS

This means we accept other people's viewpoints with respect, and don't call them names for not agreeing with us. Either we continue the argument calmly, supported by examples from the show, or we respectfully agree to disagree and leave that discussion alone.

Additionally, if you notice something being discussed on another thread in the forum that you would like to get a perspective on here, please link it in your post and let the other Thread Maker know. This allows for them to come and discuss here if they like and makes us all good neighbours.

A very special thanks to Geena and DQ for their analysis of Friday's episode. When I watched the Thursday and Friday's episodes again after reading you analysis the scenes made a lot of sense.

Geena, there is only one thing I would like to add to your analysis. Sonakshi right now is playing 3 roles simultaneously--
1) Sonakshi herself
2) Bijoy's daughter-- BD
3) Soha's mother-- SM

Similar to how DQ mentioned. But Dev is playing only 2 roles -- Dev himself and Soha's dad. There is no separate Ishwari's son anymore. There is only Dev who will respect his mother, take care of his responsibilities, but will not play by her rules anymore. He is asking Ishwari to accept it while she is rejecting it.

Coming to Sonakshi, she plays the 3 roles simultaneously switching from one to the other frequently. She is trying very hard to maintain the 3 roles and be the best at each one concurrently.

When Sonakshi came to the balcony, she was herself. The moment she saw Dev in the next balcony and questioned him, she was SM. When she saw Preethi and realized that Dev had charmed the teacher in giving him that room, she was BD. When Dev was praising Preethi, she was still BD with a little bit of herself in there. When he talked about his love, it was she herself and wanted to her him say her name. When he said It is Soha, she was disappointed and became BD. It was BD who listened to the rest of their conversation. When Dev asked her if she heard their conversation, it was a combination of BD and Sonakshi to begin with, but became Sonakshi when he asked 'farq nahi padtha'. When Dev asked if she needed help with the door, it was once again BD who answered him. When Dev forcefully came to her and she said ky karr rahe ho, it was she herself.

The person Dev tied to the door was BD. It is true that Sonakshi and SM will not stop him from meeting Soha and will actually like it if Soha calls him papa. They will even cheer for him. But BD is not happy with that as of now. She will not want Soha to accept Dev so easily. She thinks Dev is cheating, will even try to slow him down. Dev has understood this of Sonakshi. He wanted time with Soha to impress her without BD. Hence he tied her. But also made sure that she was not completely indisposed. He left a way out, through his room. It is symbolic that as he needs to go through her to reach Soha, Sonakshi needs to do the same. To reach some aspects of Soha, Sonakshi needs to go through Dev.

The conversation between them when Golu is adamant in calling Sonakshi bigchi is also very important. In that he first says names are important to Sonakshi and not relationships. Then he says it doesn't matter what Soha calls him, their relationship doesn't change. Here he was referring to the incident where he had called Asha Aunty. I am not saying it was right of him to call her that, but from his perspective it also should not have been that big a deal. Just because he called Asha aunty, his relationship with her did not change nor his respect for her decreased in any way. Conversely even though Bijoy called him "beta", he didn't really treat him as one. This is what he was trying to tell Sonakshi. That naming a relationship is just a way of recognizing it, but just name itself does not describe the entire relationship.

If Soha had called him papa, but didn't really mean it, there is not much meaning to the name. Best example is Golu and Vickky. It is true that Golu calls Vickky as Papa, but for him the real parent and father figure is Dev. The name papa to Vickky doesn't mean much to Golu.

He also wanted to ask Sonakshi the question. When she was married to Dev, she called Ishwari as "maa". His question to her is did you really mean her to be your mother. I am not saying anything excuses what Ishwari did or Dev's flaws and faults. But trying to understand what he meant and what he is trying to do.
From his perspective if Sonakshi had accepted Ishwari as her mother, she wouldn't have tried to prove her wrong. In other words he is saying will you try to prove Bijoy or Asha wrong if they say your decision is wrong or you are not the best at it. Ex -- cooking. Asha had many times in S1 even before her falling in love asks Sonakshi to learn cooking, but she at that time just laughs it off or says she is not interested. She doesn't try to prove her wrong and this is what Dev is telling her -- was it so important to you to prove "maa" wrong. Even more important than our relationship.

After the basketball match he said that he has won, but Sonakshi said he hadn't. I think at that time it was again BD who said that. Dev on the other hand is able to recognize her changing roles and is modifying his tactics accordingly.

The story is becoming really interesting to watch. A big thank you to Sam and DQ for creating this thread.

As always, thanks everyone for your politeness and thoughtfulness in sharing your analysis.
Shaavi - Glad you enjoyed the episodes. This season can really make you question your own sanity and thought process. Its very convoluted in places and such tools help simplify it for me. Depending on where in the stratosphere you are when you view this KRPKAB land, it can look very different

Happy Holi everyone.. May there be colours of joy and happiness in our lives

Loved the 6 characters, Sona, BD, SM, Dev, IS, SD.. dramaqueen. It becomes easy to analyse and express opinions clearly! 😃
The problem depicted in this serial can be expressed very succinctly. When Ishwari is around 100 metres of Dev, Dev becomes IS and the connectivity is so strong that the bond becomes ISIS. 😊

So Dev-Sona-Soha can live happily if they are out of the vicious circle and stay at a safe distance from Ishwari. 😉
