Chapter 3

As she saw the face of that person her mind stopped working. She freezed in her place. Her eyes were absorbing what they saw and they couldn't believe it. Her breath got caught in her throat..out of difficulty she managed to utter. "Shen..shah..!" but she got no response. "Shenshah!!" Jodha shouted out of fear! She quickly held his face and within no minute placed it in her lap. His face was pale and covered of blood, her whole body started shivering due to fear. Her one hand was on his head, she got numb. "Hey kanha inhe toh kaafi chot lagi hai...shenshah! Uthiye shenshah...aapko kuch nahi hoga...hum aa gaye hai...dekhiye!" but he was silent. She tore a piece of dupatta and tied on his head to stop the blood from coming out. She cried for help "Koi hai yaha pe??? Kripya hamari madad kariyee..!! Koi haii!!" but no one came. Sky had stopped pouring water on them but his body was chilling like an ice which only increased her fear. With huge difficulty she pulled him upwards and with keeping her hand on his waist and one on his shoulder she tried to move him towards the forest...his whole body weight was coming on jodha and it was getting extremely difficult for her to carry him.. "Shenshah aapko kuch nahi hoga...sab theek ho jaayega aap ek baar toh aankhein kholiye...kanha kripya kariye hamari madad kariye..." She found one tree and made him rest under it..."Inka shareer ko garam rakhne ke liye humei aag ka prabhand karna hoga" she stood up in search of some woods when her mind thought of that day when shenshah had lit the fire for her in the forest when they were travelling as commoners...she remembered the technique and quickly went to collect some woods which she placed collectively near him...then rubbed two stones together which created a spark and then in few minutes the fire grew strong. She again kept shenshah's face in her lap and swept his face and forehead with a hot wet cloth to remove the blood stains and to keep him warm at the same time. She felt some butterlies flying high in her stomach! This was the first time that she was experiencing something like this, so close to him. Though she had taken care of him in the same way when he was badly injured by the tiger but at that time she was genuinely fulfilling her duty as a person and his wife. She smiled amusingly at her situation, the drastic change of emotions from that day till now have totally changed her life. Now she was actually caring for him, an attachment was build between them. She had started feeling for him when she saw the real human side of her shenshah, when everybody around him claimed him to be heartless she was the only one who sensed his heartbeats. She caressesed his cheek with affection...a small tear escaped her eye, right now not an emperor but she could just see a common man tired of all the fights and sorrows in his life...she could make out how much pain he was in, not due to his injuries but due to her... She was feeling very weak from inside...no matter how much she denies about her feelings and emotions towards shenshah, the truth is this marriage has slowly become the reason of her existence. She slowly started bending down to catch a level parallel to his forehead..she wanted to comfort him with all her broken heart, her lips were shivering in anticipation to touch him. All she could feel was him and his efforts which were making her realize that in this tragic fight not only one but two hearts has suffered. Equally! Amidst the moment a tear fell from jodha's eyes and landed on jalal's..and a moment flashed infront of her eye of the past..."Humei aapse mohabbat ho gyi thi jodha begum...hum aap mei ek mohabbat ki roshni dekhne lage the par aapne uss roshni ko naapaak kar diya...apni iss naakari se" She opened her eyes realizing in what position she has landed herself into...she moved her face away from his forehead. "Humei khudko sambhaalna hoga...aise kamzor nahi pad sakte hum...wapas se khudko unke paas le jaane ki bhul nahi kar sakte hum" and she wiped her tears. She again took the cloth and kept it on his forehead so that he could be fine till the morning. She kept doing this for an hour...and also assembled the woods to make sure that the fire doesn't go off.

Sun rays fell on jodha and she flickered her eyelashes upon the bright light but soon came into reality when she felt weight in her lap. Jodha instantly got alert and straightened her spine, she slowly peeped over jalal who was sleeping peacefully. He was looking so innocent and calm just like a small kid looks in his sleep. She admired his face and a smile crept on her cheeks, she advanced her hand and removed a flick of his hair from his face. His body temperature was normal now and the bleeding had also stopped. Jodha thanked kanha and sighed in happiness. She slowly shifted his head from her lap and placed it on the collected hay. She stood up, her whole body was paining...she was feeling very weak from inside..."Iss jagah paani ka milna bahut mushkil lag raha hai...par shehanshah kabhi bhi uth sakte hai...humei kuch toh intezaam karna padega" she looked back at her sleeping husband in concern and then slowly walked out in search of some help. Almost half and hour passed, jodha returned with some water in a leaf when she found jalal missing! Her eyes grew wide open "Kahin hum galat jagah toh nahi aa gaye..par humei toh ache se yaad hai..yeh wahi ped hai jiske neeche humne unhe litaya tha..hey kanha kahan jaa sakte hai shenshah..unka swaasthya bhi theek nahi hai" she searched nearby but no clue. She started panicking and tears formed in her eyes, for a moment she got some bad thoughts in her mind which she instantly shooed off from her mind. "Humei wahan dekhna chahiye" and she moved towards the area from where she had brought jalal yesterday. She reached the village and saw people...she stopped some of them and inquired about shenshah "aapne ek purush ko dekha hai...unke sar par dupatta bandha hai..woh kaafi zakhmi hai...aur gore se hai.." "Nahi humne aise kisi ko nahi dekha" she again asked some people but they refused. She was losing her strength and will...she thought she would never find or see him again. Her whole world was collapsing when a woman came and said "Suno...tum kahin uski baat toh nahi kar rahi jisse kch der pehle kuch sipahi pakad ke le gaye?" Jodha immediately reacted and responded in a confused tone--"Sipahi?" "Jee usse toh koi hosh hi nahi tha..woh kaale libaas mei kuch log usse kahin le ja rahe the...bahut chot khaya lag raha tha bechaara" Jodha's face lit up hearing this..she thanked kanha and asked the woman the way where they took him..

Jalal was trying to open his eyes..he saw some men standing near her...they were his soldiers. "Shenshah ab aap kaisa mehsus kar rahe hai?" Jalal was busy figuring out the place..it was a small hut...he stood up from the bed...and his soldiers came for his support but he raised his hand.."Hum theek hai.." Farad Khan came forward and said--"Huzoor aapki tabhiyat naasaaz mehsoos ho rahi hai...hamari aapse vinti hai ki aap thoda aaram kare..aisi haalat mei aapka yatra karna theek nahi hai shenshah"

Jalal--"Aapka chinta karna vaajib hai farad khan par hum yaha jodha begum ko dhundne aaye hai aur unhe apne saath lekar hi lautenge..hum aaram karne mei samay vyast kaise kar sakte hai jab humei yeh khabhar bhi nahi hai ki wo kahan aur kis haal mein hongi..." he went and stood on the doorstep.
His head was struck on events which happened since last night. He touched his head and felt the same dupatta, he was wondering who tended him last night and tied this around his head. "Kahan hai aap jodha begum" he whispered under his breath in a tensed tone.

Jodha restlessly walked towards the path...she desperately wanted to see him..keeping aside the grudges right now all of her senses were just diverted towards one person..shenshah!

She located the hut as instructed by the woman, she saw some horses outside and understood that mughal sipahi's are in there. She saw a window and after much thinking she decided to peep in. She tilted her head towards the window and saw him resting on the wooden bed. Her eyes shed tears of happiness, she was elated to see him. "Aapka bahut bahut shukriya kanha..shenshah ab surakshit hai..." she took a breath of relief as she saw him in safe hands. She turned to go when she heard some voices from inside. She stood near the door to hear what they were talking about. She heard his voice when he said he is fine...the voice for which her ears were craving since so long. Finally she heard him speaking...she rested her head on the wall and closed her eyes...soaking in the moment..she was so relieved.
Farad khan's advise made her a bit happy that jalal was surrounded by great men and soldiers..they were so concerned for him. Then she heard jalal saying..."Aapka chinta karna vaajib hai farad khan par hum yaha jodha begum ko dhundne aaye hai aur unhe apne saath lekar hi lautenge..hum aaram karne mei samay vyast kaise kar sakte hai jab humei yeh khabhar bhi nahi hai ki wo kahan aur kis haal mein hongi..." before she could react she again heard him...this time his voice was very low like a whisper..she hid behind the door as he was standing few inches away from her
"Kahan Hai Aap Jodha Begum"
As soon as these words came out from his mouth...she got stuck in her place. His very tone melted her heart. She was not in a state to think anything...how much pain he was going through! It became so difficult for her to stay away from him. She just wanted to go and stand before him and comfort him and then she decided something in her mind.
