Usually I post my reaction to each epi in the discussion thread but I think yesterday's epi deserves a post of its own. The reason is that I have been waiting for both the main leads to go up a notch on their performance because I felt they both have that potential but the screenplay wasn't letting them explore it much. Even the first few emotional scenes of Sai pining for his mother was somewhere unconvincing for me. I could tell it was an act and didn't make me feel for RR as a character. But yesterday was different from both actors. I had problems with Pallu's character arc during the last few episodes where some natural compromises were made to the episodes. But I am glad that things are back on track from the characterization perspective for ML and FL of this show.
Pallu's reaction for the last few episodes for being accused of promiscuity vs. allegedly cheating her way to the top shows what she places value on. If i was in her place, when someone accused me of "gulcharre udaoyoing" at RR house when her daughter was intoxicated or when she accused me of "spending the night" and getting paid for it, Sulo would no longer be alive. But Pallu barely tries to clarify herself to Sulo and when Kaka tells her its not worth it she drops the topic. When she tries to explain herself to an upset Tina, she doesn't go about denying the affair but tries to instead establish that she didn't cheat and ofcourse she would have not let it happen if she was aware. When she storms into RR's house confronts him, she doesn't get emotional about her maligned character in the name of an non-existing affair but instead is upset that due to his actions she is seen as an unfair cheater and as someone who took someone else's deserved opportunity. I love that this is her focus and not on the gossip mongers. They don't get to her emotionally, its merely a disappointment she feels at the world at large which she has already written off because she feels secure that her family (namely Aai, Baba, Nihil, Mansi, Kaka) are there for her and understand her. So the opinions of others rarely phase her. But she cannot live with being seen a cheater.
The crux of her argument with RR (which btw was an amazing confrontation) was that while RR will use any means to get what he wants (shy of hurting innocent folks...which she doesn't know fully yet)...she will only use the textbook version of right and wrong to choose her path. This drew the line that they both have been them. RR is one who lives in the grey because he has matured into the ways of the world and acclimated to it to the extent that he can make his way without relying on others. Pallu on the other hand is just starting off...starry eyed and idealistic. She staunchly believes in the white and black, to some extent like RR's mother who struggles with her son's grey world. Its not easy to tow that line. Its a struggle all of us have gone through or will go through at some point in life. Neither can you fault the idealist nor can you blame the seasoned for being on different sides.
The angst RR still feels at his intensions being misunderstood however, are a reflection of how much he himself struggles with being in the grey. He so desperately wants the validation from those who hold the idealistic jhandaa high. Same way a few epis ago I felt that Pallu seeks for RR's validation of her merit. In that they are both the same.
The epi was surely a solidifying factor in the talent both actors posses but also love the characterization we have in them. Hope it stays consistent and when they do change its organic rather than a sudden shift like is usually common in these shows.
