😭A school organized a tour to an old age home and this girl found her grandmother there.When she used to ask her parents about whereabouts of grandma, she was told that she has gone to meet her relatives.This is the society we are creating.😭😭😭😭😭😭

Maharashtra State has a law against sending parents old age home, also they should be treated with respect and should be taken good care of, as per the children's financial situation.

Also if the senior citizen contact the senior citizen cell of police department, then one constable visits their home every month to keep a check on things and make sure that the senior citizen is taken care of.

Unfortunately, the parents don't make any use of such help. They dont want to file a case with the police against their own kids. So they keep tolerating the harsh behavior, even leaving house to stay in old age homes.

oh at least my family takes care of all the old ones...

cannot even think about sending them to relative let alone old age home

there are not separate entity .. they are us...age does not matter.

they are blessing..

anyway what can we do in such cases

but i am 84 as well..no one has sent me anywhere.

Keeping elderly parents at home is an Asian thing. In the West elderly couples actually seem to prefer living in old homes. I guess the facilities are better there. I personally think we have reached a time where we should stop expecting too much help from our kids when we grow old.

From the vedic times older people have always moved away from their children so that the children can make their own life while the older people pursue their spiritual goals...Its called Vanaprasta & sanyas ashrams! Somewhere in between the whole tradition of parents expecting their sons to take care of them at their old age has started and with it started the mad obsession for the male children...

There is nothing wrong in older parents wanting to say at a old age home or be independent by themselves...The society should stop stigmatizing it and actually encourage and support such things!

Because honestly all most of the older parents are doing at their sons' homes is babysitting, housekeeping and other mundane chores while their son&DIL are busy with their own lives with hardly any time to spare for anybody else!
