Yaar, don't excuse the lyricist. I'm sure that wasn't what he was thinking when he wrote it. And since it was Sameer, I have my doubts whether he was thinking at all. 😉

👏 to Suhana. What a wonderful subject! Lifts us above the all-pervading Himeshness being inflicted on us.

Ok let me recall some lyrics that did not make sense to me. In the movie Prem Pujari, there is this delightful duet between Bhupinder and Kishore "Yaaron neelam karo susti"

I could not understand the line
"Tum jo muskuraado rajdhani hain"

What does it mean?

Thanks Sahana Ji! I'm glad you like the thread. 😳

I haven't heard that song from Prem Pujari, but that line doesn't seem to make any sense. I'm looking at the lyrics now and I can't figure it out from context either. Although I'm kinda confused about the entire song. Rajdhani means "capital city" right? Or is there another meaning...

Can you listen to the song at http://www.musicindiaonline.com/music/hindi_bollywood/s/movi e_name.1513/ and give me your comments? Neeraj is a well-known poet so I think there must be a meaning.

Okay, I heard it and I'm still unsure, but I have an idea now. So the previous line goes "kaaton ki dagariya zindagani hai" which is basically saying that usually life is like a road full of thorns. Then "tum jo muskura do rajdhani hai"..."when you smile, its like a capital city." The "it" in this case refers to zindagani. It's a weird metaphor, but I guess it's just saying that "Life is difficult, but when you smile, it becomes pleasant and lively." I may be totally wrong if rajdhani has another meaning.

Well it seems Rajdhani here refers to the Rajdhani Express, which had been launched with much fanfare during the time that Prem Pujari was being made, and was highly rated for its fast speed and luxurious travel (in those times). So following on from the previous line - Life is like a road of thorns, but when you smile, life's a breeze (like moving in a Rajdhani).

Ah, I totally should have gotten that since I travelled on teh Rajdhani Express over the summer...lol. Anyway, I think my basic intuition was still pretty accurate. Strange metaphor though!

Oh btw, is that the train depicted in "Badal Bijli Chandan Pani"?
