Movies were originally meant for theater experience. In Raj Kapoor, Dilip Kumar days even a peasant or beggar could afford to watch cinema but today economics of watching a movie has changed drastically. A family of four to a weekend movie costs around 2-3K including tickets, food and beverages, while on OTT you can watch same for Rs. 300 per month. For a price conscious nation, most people won't squander their hard earned money. Unless ticket rates, food & beverages cost come down people will rarely visit theaters.
In south there is fixed price for tickets be it multiplex or single screen, which are almost 50% less than Bombay. You can't change ticket price, just on the basis of star cast or production house.
Unless producers and theater owners understand this economics, Bollywood's future looks bleak.
OTT....esp after 2019.
Theatre!
On the phone
I prefer Ott
Theatre can be distracting with others talking, eating, dancing and kicking
I don’t go to theatre unless I am really keen on the movie or I love the actor.
Theatre only if reviews are excellent.
Generally, cinemas for sci-fi and fantasy mean visually stunning movies. Some directors' movies deserve to be seen in cinemas, like those of Guillermo del Toro.
Netflix is set to stream GDT's Frankenstein in November, but it will have a limited theatrical release beforehand. I missed the IMAX tickets, but thankfully, I was able to get others.
I watched Wild Robot, Wicked, Fantastic Four, and Lokah in the cinema; it was worth it.
Nothing can keep me away from my phone except a movie theatre..i have ruined many movies at home due to this but cinema always give you that egde..no comparison for me..nothing like a packed cinema..popcorns..the sound..the magic..also my chances of liking a movie in cinema are 1/3rd more..we are victims of short attention span and at home it just is never possible for me..only cinema has made me truly leave everything where it is and just dive into the world i am about to see for the next 2 hours
I love watching films in Theatres.
