The Delhi High Court has raised objections to Priya Sachdev’s demand for a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) in the ongoing inheritance dispute involving the estate of late industrialist Sunjay Kapur, reportedly valued at around Rs 30,000 crore.
The case concerns Kapur’s children from his marriage with actor Karisma Kapoor — Samaira and Kiaan — and his widow, Priya. During Thursday’s hearing, Justice Jyoti Singh questioned whether assets could be filed under a sealed cover and restricted by an NDA.
“It may be problematic for the simple reason that as the alleged beneficiary of the estate, they [Karisma Kapoor’s children] have a right to question the assets disclosed… So, tomorrow, if they have to verify and go about asking what has happened, if they are bound with this confidentiality club, how will they ever defend their case?” the court asked.
Justice Singh pressed Priya Sachdev’s legal team to cite provisions that would allow such confidentiality. She pointed out that inheritance cases require transparency, particularly when multiple heirs are involved. The court also expressed concern that keeping disclosures confidential could limit Samaira and Kiaan’s ability to challenge them effectively. “How will you all file a written reply to the suit and argue cases if everything is in sealed cover? Tomorrow you will file a written statement and attach the will to it. How will they file their replies in the court,” Justice Singh observed.
Karisma Kapoor’s Link to the Case
Karisma Kapoor married Sunjay Kapur in 2003. The couple had two children before parting ways in 2016. While Karisma herself is not directly fighting the case, she represents her children, who moved the Delhi High Court earlier this week to secure their share of their father’s estate.
In their petition, Samaira and Kiaan alleged that Priya Sachdev forged Sunjay Kapur’s will. They claimed the document was neither legally valid nor original, arguing that both the original and a copy have been withheld from them. On this basis, they requested the court to provide access to the will. The matter remains under judicial consideration.
