Days after actor Gauahar Khan called out the singer for using abusive and racist language against fellow contestants, Mallik’s team issued a statement on social media defending him while also questioning Gauahar’s stance.

The backlash began when Amaal Mallik used the word “harami” while addressing Awez Darbar’s group. Gauahar, standing up for her brother-in-law, condemned Mallik’s behaviour, labelling his comments “disgusting” and highlighting a separate incident where he referred to Pranit More as a “zebra.” Her remarks gained traction online, with many agreeing that such language crosses the line of entertainment.

In response, Mallik’s team shared a clip on Instagram stories, calling out what they viewed as selective criticism. “We are not saying that the word used by him is right or that when Awez Darbar used it, it was wrong. What we are saying is… don’t unnecessarily single out Amaal when your own family member is doing exactly the same,” the statement read.

The post further advised Gauahar against passing judgments when her “own coin is tarnished,” adding, “Jab apna khudka sikka khota ho, tab auro ko nahi parakhna chahiye.” The note carried the hashtag #TeamAmaalMallik, showing solidarity with the singer despite the growing backlash.

The justification does not deny Amaal’s choice of words but frames the issue as a matter of fairness, pointing to double standards when similar language is allegedly used by Gauahar’s family members.
