Neil-Ameesha, Mithun-Suniel starrers sabotaged?
By Joginder Tuteja, Jun 25, 2013 - 12:13 IST

Term it as an arrival amidst the crowd, misplaced strategy or sheer bad luck but this week's new releases, Shortcut Romeo and Enemmy, have gone down the barrel without much of a chance. Leave aside the fact that critics weren't too kind either, the fact remains that for the 'aam junta', none of the two films even managed to reach theatres.

"Both films were courting trouble like delays and censor issues for some time but what took place on the eve of release was something that no one could really see coming," informs a source, "To their horror, the makers realized that there weren't even adequate screens for their films. Worse, the show timings were haphazardly placed as well. The select screens where the films were showing either placed them in a nondescript morning/afternoon show or late in the night."

Whatever little prospects that the two films carried were further killed by the fact that competition came in the form of not just this week's Raanjhanaa (which enjoyed a big release for itself) but also last week'sFukrey which has now turned out to be a surprise success. Since the film stayed very stable during its entire week, the exhibitors had a task cut out for them.

"Naturally they chose a light hearted Fukrey along with Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani which is still raking in moolah," the source adds, "It was just not possible for action films like Shortcut Romeo and Enemmy to find any space. Also, it was too late to push the release ahead."

The phenomenon was witnessed not just in Mumbai but even Delhi NCR where the Shortcut Romeo andEnemmy got mere 25 shows in total.

"I am not saying that I was expecting crowds to be forming a beeline from the first show itself. However, those who wanted to catch it later in the day should have got an option at the least," rues Ashuu Trikha, director of Enemmy, "If the film was running in a close by theatre, they would have watched it and formed an opinion. Good or bad, I would have liked to hear that. In our case, there is none at all which is the most unfortunate part."

Adds a friend of Neil, "What can he do? Then they blame actors. Neil has been praised by all. But if he is not given a chance only then it can't be helped. This has really been very disappointing for him." Ameesha Patel was a lot more vocal though. She said, "A good film was ruined because of an incompetent producer who promised Neil and me plenty of screens and show timings. What a waste of a super product." Ironically, the 'incompetent producer' and the maker of a 'super product' here is the same man - Susi Ganesan.

They r crying over having to compete with Fukrey and Raanjhanaa...neither of which had "moolah raking" qualities...no hit songs, or huge actors or controversies in either of them...and YJHD was in its fourth week meaning the entire country im sure has seen it already...but they still managed to make more money than SC romeo...i think more than anything, tht speaks for the product rather than its "release"...😆

aww cherry...its okay...u can release desi magicc in 1000 screens and we will all go watch it and make it a BB 😳

ENEMMY And SHORTCUT ROMEO Are Historical Disaters

"Shortcut Romeo" was publicised in Cannes and one would had seen numerous paid PR in newspaper on daily basis. "Enemmy" was produced by Mithun and has father - son duo first time on screen.

"Shortcut Romeo" collected 23 lakhs on day one followed by major drop in next two days. Film managed to collect 57 lakhs over the weekend and week one will be less than 90 lakhs with cancel shows all over.

"Enemmy"was expected to do better in B & C centers but film met with disastrous fate and collected 53 lakhs over the weekend. Week one will be over around 80 lakhs.

Both the film will fail to recover even print publicity cost and total income from all rights will be less than total P & A.

LMFAO!

so shortcut romeo's lifetime would not even touch 1 crore

HOLY CRAP!

even C grade movies earn that much

terrible

and ameesha still has the mouth to talk and blame every one for failure but herself, just like she has been doing since the past 11 years. Yeah ameesha your movie was not given enough screens and you really don't know why? have you ever got out of your narrow mind and wonder how much star power you or neil even have to be given more screens?

LOSERS!

👎🏼

at least accept your mistake instead of the blame game. You have zilch star power, why would any one in his right frame of mind spend even a cent on you- just get a reality check and better stick to comedy/cameo's in multistarrers

The Vigil Idiot: Shortcut Romeo

JUNE 27, 2013 7:59 AM BY SAHIL RIZWAN

Shortcut Romeo is the Hindi remake of the 2006 Tamil film Thiruttu Payale. Directed by Susi Ganesh, the movie stars Neil Nitin Mukesh (as Suraj), Ameesha Patel (as Monica), Puja Gupta (as Sherry) and director Susi Ganesh himself in a minor role. It's hardly surprising that he couldn't find actors willing to take the job and had to resort to casting himself, though. They probably all saw the original film and realised that the best thing for all concerned would be to stay far, far away from this script.
