Part 26

Same Night

The arena was pitch dark...except for a faint moonlight trickling in from a small square shaped window...It was that place in KM where Maan practiced his tai-chai...And he was standing right there...his shirtless body smeared with sweat...& his eyes letting out fire...he doing some nerve rattling moves...

"I cannot see anyone else with Mishty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

His lips parted decisively to utter those words...& every inch of his being agreed to his say...His mind was definitely not reasoning out what exactly prompted him to form those words...Instead his passionate eyes lingered images of his dance with Mishty...which only made his tai-chai moves dangerously passionate...The feeling of her closeness was retained by his arms which only invited the terrific, unknown feelings to gush through him...His heart was finding it difficult to cope up with the rate at which he was thinking about her...What if he had seen Mishty dance with Akshay...Maan's eyes inflated in volcanic fury at the thought of her being touched by someone else...Maan didn't know why was he getting affected so much...& he didn't even care to bother...

On the other hand, it was 1.30 in the night but the idea of sleep did not occur to Geet at all…. ...She was unconsciously playing with her curls while her eyes were dazed as she recollected her dance with Maan...She had unknowingly chucked the idea of fulfilling her promise to Daarji as she knew it was the next impossible thing in the universe...Her heart beats went awry at the thought of Maan's intense eyes...Geet hid herself shyly in the blanket thinking about him, simultaneously mending her breaths ….And then she even spared a moment to analyse his words to Akshay...

"Was Maan jealous by any chance????????????" she giggled, blushing.

Geet smacked her head with a pillow realizing what she had just thought!

"Jhalli kahin ki!!!! Kuch bhi ulta-seedha sochti rehti hai!!! Now shut up & go to sleep, samjhi??!!!!!Geet, Don't you know a sleepless mind is home for stupid thoughts???!!! Now Sleep!!!"

But then her wandering mind did not listen to her & continued thinking of him.Geet again smacked her head after her trance broke!

"Geet!!!!!!!!! This is heights!!!! Is there any strick law that you have to think of Maan always???No na?? So Sleep!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

And then sleep had to invade her!

The next morning the sun took the greatest pain of rising from the south just because one particular human soul did the thing which was not at all expected out of her!

"Simi, it's better you forget Maan Bhai as he doesn't even wants to see you ever."

"But Annie! You can't do this!!! You know how much I love him!"

Simi was entirely shocked after receiving Annie's call. Maan was a key to her fame & she wanted to get him at any cost... she wouldn't let go off him so easily...

"Get over him. Simple."

Annie cut the call abruptly...She was disturbed...not because she had failed to get Simi & Maan together but for some other deeper reason...

When Maan walked in the hall, he could sense what Annie was exactly thinking about...

"Bhai woh--"

"Mom & Dad are fine and you are not alone so don't ruin your day by being sad. Okay?"

She smiled a little. Both of them knew of their parents fight last night...Annie hugged Maan...

"I know you & Dadima are always there for me! Aap dono best ho!"

They broke the hug.

"Be positive everytime. Trust me, things will definitely improve." said he holding her face.

Annie nodded

Just then they saw Geet descending down the stairs. She & Annie exchanged hateful stares with each other! On the other hand, Maan's sombre face at once turned playful seeing Mishty though she avoided eye-contact with him! His trance broke when he heard Annie's voice.

"Bhai, I'm leaving for college. "

She went off!

"Geet, d-don't look a-at him!"

Before Maan could talk to Geet, Dadima came there.

"Good Morning Dadima!"

"Good Morning Geet bte!"she wished her smiling.

Geet saw Maan's eyes mischievously looking at her, leaning against a wall behind Dadima! She avoided him!

"Dadima, w-woh..room allotment in the hostel has been done so---"

"Ah! Whatever it is, but you have to keep coming here often. Promise?"

Geet nodded & saw Maan smirking through the corner of her eye!

"I know your inability to keep promises but don't you worry! I will make sure you fulfil your promise to Dadima!" he said naughtily

"Koi zarurat nahi!!!!" she shot back!

Geet was walking ahead ahead while Maan was ardently following her until he pinned her to one of the walls in the entrance corridor of KM...

The air nosed in at the right time making the long white curtains to fall on them...Her hands were fevicoled tightly to the wall by him & her eyelashes obeyed the command of his intoxicant eyes to not blink...The curtains burned in the heat radiated by them but Maan chose to calm down the alien fire in his heart first...Something had happened to him but he couldn't think what...Geet was supposed to be angry on him...very angry as he was the main reason why she couldn't sleep properly last night...instead her heart beats shattered at the way he was looking at her...

"I will "drop" you to college today!"

His sonorous voice made her shirek & she looked at him with extremely wide eyes! She gulped her saliva in fear recollecting what he had done last time before the guest lecture!

"N-N-Nahi!!!!!! Geet, use any word from the English Dictionary but refuse him!!!! Refuse him right away!!!!!!!"

Maan smirked knowing her turmoil!

"We will use the short-cut if you want!" he grinned mercilessly...

"Y-You are very bad in dropping me to college, samjhe aap??? I'm not coming with you!!!!!"

She tried to shove him away but Maan stood like a pillar! His eyes pierced in her making her breathe slow...

"D-D-Dekhiye, I-I am not a new-born child who needs to be dropped to college!"

"Forget colleges! New-borns don't even step in schools" he snapped back in his deep voice

Geet frowned but she couldn't say much except agreeing to whatever he said!

She eyed him suspiciously while he whizzed the car! Many a times, he scared the wits out of her on the pretex of taking a wrong turn! But in the climax she heaved a deep sigh of relief when Maan indeed deposited her before the college gates!

"Ye lo! Your college has come!" he remarked uninterestedly and then leaned towards her rougishly behind the tinted glasses...

"Tum kaho toh we can shun this geeky place & go somewhere else jahan no one will disturb us..."

She frowned & was about to alight from the car but she held herself back...

"Ha! I knew my idea is better!"

"Dekhna, everyone in the class will pass comments on my dress in the Freshers! Pata nahi, what they might be thinking about me..." she was upset...

Maan smirked.

"Yeah right! Ek toh you wore the wrong dress aur upar se kitni khoobsurat lagh rahi thi...! All the girls will hate you for looking better than them! That's the thing which is worrying you, hai na?"

He asked mischievously, Geet was shocked. She stared at him blankly, not able to choose the right reaction!

Maan whispered naughtily...

"You have 10 seconds to get off the car, else I will assume that you want me to flirt properly with you!"

She frowned & headed out of the car! Maan headed to office.

Phew! Babaji Thanks a lot that I managed to reach here on time warna Maan ka toh no bharosa! I was on the way to my class... Waise if you go to see, Maan is right...I am creating an issue out of nothing! I mustn't care of what others think of me as that leads to poor self-esteem which is a big no no for me!

I entered my class to see all my friends had already arrived. I went & sat with them. I was very much surprised by what they had to say!

"Geet! I lubbed your anarkali suit yaar! Lets bunk some lecs & go shopping!" chirped Divya.

"And you know what the Freshers was so damn boring!! Good you left!" added Tulip.

Even other girls complimented me! I could see Annie grimacing! After all her "master plan" to embarrase me failed! Ha Ha!

Then Juhi's words startled me!

"Geet, we saw you with Maan Singh Khurana!!! What were you doing with him??Haan batao na??!!"

Wow! All the eyes were eagerly looking at me as if I was going to announce my marriage date!!! Jeez!!! Even Divya spoke

"Are you dating Maan Khurana??? Tell na Tell na Tell na!!!!" she was so excited.

I tried to say no but no one cared to listen!

"Eee!!! You are so luckyyy Geet! We are very very very jealous!!!!!"

Lucky??? Yeah right! I am always the target of his first-hand pranks!!! Sheesh!

Then everyone started teasing me! Yikes! I was on the verge of blushing & they teased me on that also! I told them to stop but they continued linking me with Maan! Ab inhe kaun samjhaye, there is nothing like that between me & him...or is there? Stupid Geet!!!!!!!!!You are mad!!!!!!

Miracal Miracal! Annie didn't say a word! She just ignored everything!

I was relieved when our Business Management professor walked in. Everyone hushed up & backed to their seats. Phew! Jaan bach gayi meri toh!

The professor began writing names of some companies in the blackboard like Macdonalds, Dominos, a telecom company, a bank & Freak!!! Even Khurana Constructions!!!!!

Then she held a bowl containing chits & spoke,

"Students, these are for your first project in this semester! Each one of you has to come here & pick a chit & that's how you will get a company on which you individually have to conduct a research!"

My throat went dry as Maan's smirking face loomed in my mind...Babaji, please please please!!!! I don't want KC under any circumstances!!!!!! Maan will never ever help me straight forward!!! Instead, he will leave no stone unturned to trouble me!!!!!

One by one everyone picked up their chits! I prayed & prayed & prayed that someone else gets KC but unfortunately that didn't happen! Even Annie got Dominos! Babaji, what are you doing?!

Then my turn came. There were five chits in the bowl and...and...and one of them had KC... I gulped my saliva in fear as if it was a do-or-die situation for me...Geet, don't pick the chit which has KC,else you won't be able to do the project atleast in this birth!!!The professor gave me an impatient look!

"G-Geet! B-Be positive!! You will not get KC! Neither you will have to spend three weeks with Maan in KC for research nor will he be able to play his pranks!! Trust Babaji, your kismet is not that bad!"

I picked up a chit & began opening it as if I was going to unveil the biggest mystery of planet Jupiter...and then...and then...I was blue with shock...

"Khurana Constructions!! Geet, you will research on the working of this MNC!"

Thud!!!!! Chann se jo tute koi sapna, jag suna suna lage...Babaji!!!!! What have you doneee? Nahi!!!!! Can any one please find me a soft wall so that I can bang my head over my destiny????!!!!!Why Maan always?!!!!!Why?????!!!! Mujhe jawab chahiye!!!!!!

I requested the prof infinite times to change my company but she refused to oblige! I returned back to my seat after a losing the already lost battle!

And here Divya & Tulip started with their 'oohs' & 'aahs' gushing that I needn't worry about the project as Maan would do it for me! Yeah Yeah Why not!! Only I know how much Maan will "contribute" to my project! Oh boy!

Annie smiled cheekily! I frowned,

"Now you will say I bribed our prof to give me KC so that I can be with Maan, hai na?" I snorted, sarcastically.

"You only said this course doesn't revolve around my bro so better stop fantascising about him & concentrate on the project instead!!!!" she sneered.

Arggg!!!!Annie...Grr!!!! Relax Geet Relax!! Take a deep breath!!!All is well!!!

Then the professor gave college letters signed by the Princi to the ones who needed it so that they would be allowed to enter their respective companies to make the project!

Tulip stopped me when I was about to get a letter for myself!

"Why do you need a letter Geet? You will anyways be welcomed by Maan in KC!" she winked.

God knows why but I did not take the letter!

Come evening, after college, I went to my hostel. The Matron there showed me my room & said that I don't have any room-mate as of now because there are no new admissions! So this entire big room is mine? Yippeee!!!Also she informed me that the curfew time was 10:30 pm!

The Matron left. To make long story short, I loved my room!

I first called up at home. I was missing everyone back in Chandigarh! Mamma-Papa were arguing with each other about who would speak to me first! Aww they are such cutie pies I tell you! They then kept the phone in speaker mode so that I can speak to all!

We talked heartily for a good half an hour after which we rang off. And then I was back to sorting out the grim realities of my life...!

I walked to the large window which over-looked a highway. I sighed!

"Geet, aisa nahi sochte! Maan is not that bad! He will surely help you in making this presentation, hai na?...or atleast you can hope so! Umeed par hi teri duniya kaayam hai!"

I was almost on the verge of plucking the petals of a flower debating 'Maan will help me' , 'Maan will help me not'! Sigh!

The best thing would be to remain optimistic as this project is very important for me from exam point of view!

Just then my phone rang. It was Maan!

End of Narration

Geet's phone rang. It was Maan!

"You loved your hostel room so much that you have completely forgotten about me!"

His husky voice fell in her ears which made her heart miss a beat!

"W-Woh M-Maan...mujhe aapse kuch kehna hai..."

"Kaho na..." he purred naughtily

She frowned but that was not a very good time for her to express annoyance!

"A-Actually..."

She told him about her project where she was assigned to research on the management & working of Khurana Constructions. Unknown to her, Maan was smirking hearing her...

"...So M-Maan will you help me as I just don't know from where to start & where to end...!"

Geet expected Maan to agree instantly but a silence followed...which made her sure that something was cooking in his mind which was not at all good for her...!

"Well, I can't assure you anything because you know how "helpful" I am!. First, take an appointment from Rishi to come to KC tomorrow, then I might "think" of helping you!"

Geet frowned hearing his rougish voice!

"Appointment????? And that too for meeting you??????"

She asked as if that was the last thing on earth she could think of!. Obviously, Maan's pride was hurt!

"Excuse me??? You are speaking to The Maan Singh Khurana, M.D of Khurana Constuctions & I don't meet anyone without an appointment!" he bragged!

"Oh hello! I don't need any appointment to meet you, you are helping me, that's it!" she snorted, angrily!

Maan smirked.

"No! I will not!!"

"Chaddo!!!!!! I don't need your help!!!"

"Aww...then bade a tearful good-bye to your project!!" he said huskily.

Geet pouted with agony & stamped her foot.

"Thik hai!! I will take an appointment. Khush???!!!!"

"Buhot khush!" he said naughtily.

"Waise, is there any other soul existing with you in your room?"

"No! I don't have any room-mate! Why?" she snapped curiously!

Maan's eyes twinkled with mischief ...He rang off without replying...

"Ms Geet Handa, I will make sure you "peacefully" do your project on KC...!"

He smirked while his heart vibrated in passion...

On the other hand, Geet was pacing to & fro in her room...

"Babaji, ab main kya karu??? Unki baaton se toh aisa nahi lagta that he will ever help me...abhi toh sirf appointment ke liya kaha, p-pata nahi, what will he do next..."

Doubts began to creep in while her heart thudded...
