Why Vidya but not Tabu?

Vidya has been doing these "off beat" movies off late and gaining a lot of critical acclaim for it. She's right alongside the commercial actresses of today when it comes to garnering work or respect. So I'm sitting here scratching my head thinking where did Tabu lack? If you ask me, Tabu has always been a better performer in non-commercial films. If Vidya has Parineeta, Paa, Ishqiya and Dirty Picture then Tabu has Maachis, Namesake, Astitva, Maqbool, Chandni Bar. Also, on another note, It isn't like Vidya is the epitome of bouncy fair-skinned maiden that bollywood prefers either. Both Tabu and Vidya have that old world charm to their looks. So why is Vidya revered but Tabu never is? Sure, Tabu isn't good at commercial cinema that Katrina, Kareena and Priyanka are known for but neither is Vidya. Vidya sucks at commercial films as well...kismat connection, hey baby were all juvenile with shoddy acting.

Thank you dexy!!! I was thinking the same too. I personally feel that tabu has born in a wrong era.

see at the time of Tabu, mainstream actresses were really talented! and every now and then they also did off-beat movies! but Vidya is in the time of people like Katrina/Kareena therefore she is getting a lot of attention! however if I am not wrong Tabu has got a lot of national awards, although that is not exactly commercial success!

I think Vidya is lucky that she peaked around the time when the rest of them except PC are doing very mediocre work...

She is put on a pedestal bcoz the newbies still haven't proved their mettle and the rest of them who are talented are stuck in the rut and are not making use of their potential...

Tabu was around when Kajol, Rani and PZ were delivering BO hits... Their roles had some substance and their performances were noticed and they were recognized at the awards too with the main awards... And each time Tabu was left with the Critics awards... Eventually she was typecast as a parallel cinema heroine and a thinking man's actress and did not get as much attention as Vidya is getting today...

exactly when she was around main-stream actresses were quite talented and capable of doing meaty roles, and in today's mainstream actresses no one except PC can do that, so Vidya is very much needed!

PC and Kareena both can do performance oriented roles... Its just that Kareena limited herself to the glam roles that did not tap her potential...

PC did some good work but she was quite unlucky at the BO and those movies where she had good roles did not click at the BO... Good that things are looking up for her now and she has some BO hits in her kitty now...

I am not talking abt the timing and when they did it... All i am saying is both PC and Kareena have potential to do it and can deliver if they pick the right roles... And the rest of the newbies i don't see that potential what actresses like PC, Kareena, Rani, Karisma etc had in them...
