Very good topic. And too have thought at times on Tabu, as she was highly verstatile. Yet its timing, as she was there with many actresses who alo knew hot to act, now a days its all about glam, so when you get a Vidya its a rare commodity. Since, Kareena became more interested in hits, because she's done that cinema in the past and saw Katrina getting attention on being glam and decided to go that route to get noticed. Priyanka, too has done good movies in the past and been recognized, and is verstatile in her own way, yet unable to draw masses.

I think Vidya's dirty picture is what put her on the mark. Though her no one killed Jessica, Parineeta, Ishquiya were critically acclaimed and got critics awards, yet the dirty picture with its ooomph and all drew masses, great opening which no actress as had without a huge star. whereas, I do not think Tabu had a movie which had that pull, she was always critically acclaimed and yes got awards but not popularity as Vidya, as Maddy said since other actresses or having there own space and Vidya her own. Whereas in Tabu's time there were other actresses around like Preity, etc. who knew the meaning on acting. I think Kajol, too was able to draw in masses on her own name in certain movies. Gupt was all hers as an antihero and some others. Preity too had some hits that were due to her in heroine orientiated movies. Well Kareena as Heroine coming up which will test her mettle as a solo big name.

For me, Tabu is the best actress of her generation. You'd have to go back nearly thirty years to find someone better than her (Shabana Azmi). But it's like they say, greatness is rarely appreciated in its own time. Think that's the case with Tabu unfortunately.

If she continues to do this now, then I think she can surpass Vidya...
