Part 7

'its either her or no one else' said arjun while going up the stairs. Daadi was elated, this is what she wanted to hear from so long, 'bilkul apne dada pe gaya hai' she chuckled, she knew once arjun made up his mind that was his last resolve. He wont change it for anything. I want to see you happy beta , she thot to herself remembering what bua told about arohi. daadi was apprehensive if arohi will be able to agree since she had gone through so much in life at such young age. But her confidence in arjun overrode all her doubts.

Arohi was on her way back home along with bua's family and guddi. All were talking about the various things that happened that evening, while arohi was getting flashes of arjun raising his thumb at her, did he really like the event , just then sanchit took arjun's name for something and she became alert, by then sanchit was done with his sentence and arohi was left wondering what it was, she could not ask sanchit directly and she wished sanchit continued. It was not until they reached home that arohi realized that she was actually interested to know about arjun and that disturbed her. little did she know that even if she chides her mind, her heart knows better than her, she was soon going to find that out.

Arjun changed into pj's and came down holding the sleek camera , daadi was still sitting there on the couch watching tv. He sat next to her and started browsing the pics he had taken that evening , he had taken pics of arohi when she was on stage he smiled looking at them, when the dance pics came he gave the camera to daadi . 'this was what the kids performed on stage today' he said 'this is guddi na , arohi's sister?' daadi questioned him 'yep , she was mother earth in the center and the they did a song on harvest, rain and prosperity' he said proudly as if he had directed them. 'she resembles her sister a bit nai' dadi asked 'really ? let me see' he quickly went a couple pics back to see arohi again, 'oh ho to yeh baat hai, tumne chori chupe pics bhi le liya' daadi teased him, 'chori chupe kyun? I took them just like how I clicked other pics, these just got zoomed too much' he winked at his daadi. 'bilkul apne dada pe gaya hai' she said lovingly , he gave her the camera and lied down on his back on the couch, with his head on dadi's lap and legs stretched out on the armrests. She looked at arohi's pic again and told him, 'she is beautiful' , 'I know ' he said trying to take the camera back, 'dekhne de mujhe, tum itne der dekkhe aya na ruk' shoving his hand away. Just then rashi and jignesh came out from their room , raashi told her brother 'guess what I am coming to mumbai with you to torture you there also, jignesh told dad that he wants to go, because I made him say so' she giggled and walked into the garden where rudra and kumud were already sitting talking. Arjun frowned ran his forefinger on his forehead indicating fate . Daadi noticed all four of them out in the garden and imagined arjun and arohi too out there. She told arjun, 'waha dekh' 'they are all so happy, I want to see you out there like that soon' arjun smiled at the couples outside, 'yaad hai when raashi insisted that she wants to marry jignesh only , how you supported her, eventhough we were not happy about him' 'yes I knew she liked him and I want my little sister to have whatever she wants' he said with affection 'ladka bura bhi nahi tha, bas paise par uska nazar tha, lekin rashi se pyar bhi bahut karta hai, so we had to agree, whatever it is they both love each other' daadi said and continued 'aur kumud , even if I have my differences with your mom, she has kept your dad and the family happy since day one, wahi hota hai pati patni ka rishta , no matter what , as long as you are in love with your spouse that marriage is worth all the ups and downs' arjun knew that his family was bound with love and affection and he knew what daadi was hinting at. he told her 'mine is going to be the same, I assure you' he said 'goodnight, ab mera camera dedo' he took it with him , whether it will help him sleep or not, he had to look at the pics as long as he was awake.

Sunday afternoon , arohi was done making kadi , enough for lunch and dinner and for bua's family too, she loved kadi and made it very often. She tasted some , satisfied , she filled up a dish with it, and took it to bua's house. Bua was busy, it was 2 in the afternoon and it was Sunday , as soon as she saw arohi, 'oh good you are here, help me with this stuff, she said handing her some veggies and knife' 'and you got kadi, good , I will heat this one too for dinner' 'oh I din tell you na, be here around 6 pm or so, and you two will have dinner here only okay, sanchit has invited couple of his friends' 'so it is his friends what will I do here ?' 'no I invited a family too , so there will be 4-5 ppl together and you be here allright' 'bua whats going on?' she asked suspiciously 'trust me arohi , I am not planning anything , I will need your help in the evening, if you don't want to help fine, but be here for dinner atleast' 'when did I say I don't want to help, but what will I do among strangers' 'not everyone we meet are our friends the first time arohi, when people meet the first time they are strangers, if you feel good around them they will become friends or they will remain strangers forever and I like making friends' 'what did I even say?' 'never mind, did you have lunch? Shall I serve ' ' no I will eat at home with guddi, and I will be here for dinner , you don't have to bring me down with emotions' she said , bua smiled 'theek hai' 'and I expect you not to do this at dinner' arohi warned her bua ' I told you I am not planning anything, leave that, what happned to your mumbai trip' ' still thinking' 'still thinking of where to stay or whether you can stay without guddi' 'bua I made up my mind, If I go I will be leaving guddi with you, why do you doubt that' ' because I can see it in your eyes that you think it will be a trouble to me, and I assure your it wont be, she is my kid too' 'I know , okay see you later then' she left leaving the bowl of chopped and washed veggies on the side . I wish that the person you might be thinking of a stranger becomes more than a friend arohi , bua sighed.

Arohi wore her grey and maroon suit , one that suited simple gatherings and put a small red bindi , guddi loved dressing up and she was going on and on about her new chain, new bangles. Arohi was listening patiently and looked at herself in the mirror, remembered arjun giving a thumbs up , she felt embarrassed at herself that she felt he gave a thumbs up now also, she was not even sure if she will meet him again. Suddenly the girl instinct in her made her grab the matching earrings that had maroon stones, one thing she knew was she had never felt like this. Quickly composing herself, she along with guddi reached bua's house.

Lucky me bua thought when she saw arohi , even though she was looking simple, the earrings alone added a dressed up look to her and bua was happy arohi put that little extra effort, after all , singhania daadi will be pleased . 'has anyone come yet?' arohi asked helping her aunt. Around 7 pm jay came and sanchit and him went into his room, just jay? She had seen him like 100 times in sanchit's house and he must have had dinner here n number of times, clearing all her doubts a car arrived. And seeing daadi and raashi, arohi's heart jumped a couple of times to see if someone else also got down. But no one else did and she felt disappointed, her mind was not even registering that she longed to see arjun , if it did she would have quickly snapped out of it. Just then a bike stopped behind the car and arjun took off the helmet , looked towards arohi's house for a second, and followed his daadi and sister inside. She felt a warm feeling returning to her heart when she saw him look at her house, she quickly went into the kitchen. So this was the family bua was talking about. Lovedeep welcomed them and arjun saw guddi sitting there staring at something, he said hi to her but she was busy looking away, he looked arnd hoping to see arohi but was soon called into sanchit's room. He could have sat out and talked with uncle too , arohi thot. But how does she care right. She joined the rest of them. raashi soon became everyone's darling , she had a charm that made conversations easy, which of the singhania's did not have that charm she thought. Daadi was explaining to bua why kumud or rudra or jignesh cld not come and was glancing at arohi every now and then, making her feel uncomfortable and consicious. Lovedeep got up to serve dinner aro joined her in the kitchen 'you said sanchit's friends' 'ya jay and arjun , and the family daadi and raashi' aro had nothing to counter that.

She saw them all settling at the dining table, and why is she feeling shy to go out , it is just people that came for dinner , it is not like they came to see her , she did what she was best at, snubbing all the curbing feelings, she came with couple of dishes in her hand. Arjun noticed her come out and couldnot hide his excitement, he quickly got up came to her and with a 'hi' and a smile took the bowls from her hands and kept it on the table. Arohi did not want others to think anything of this, she quickly turned her attention to raashi and daadi , while knowing that arjun was looking at her repeatedly.

There was lot of talking and laughing and getting to know stuff going on even while the tension between arjun and arohi was being ignored by everybody, raashi was oblivious to this yet. But what happned later made her also suspicious. It was when the kadi was served. Daadi and raashi took some and praised the taste. bua replied, 'it is the magic of aro's hands and that is her favourite so the taste gets naturally better when she makes it' she said even as her sentence was completed arjun took ladle fulls on his plate and a surprised rashi exclaimed 'but you never ate'' arjun quickly kicked her leg underneath the table silencing her 'I love it too , its my favourite as well' and ate it . her brother lied raashi thot, he never liked kadi, he would make all sorts of faces and here he is almost licking his fingers, that is fishy, she elbowed daadi , but daadi ignore that , 'haan arjun loves tasty food' she gave a generalized statement. raashi was not naive, she had been there when everything and anything feels right and best when you are in love, so what is the deal with her brother now she had to keep an eye out, oh this will be fun, she thot gleefully.

Arohi was flushed to know that arjun liked what she made, so did everyone her mind told her . just when she consoled herself like that she saw arjun raising his thumb again at her telling it was very tasty. she cld only smile and make it look like she smiled at everyone. Guddi was busy playing with her roti, so arohi concentrated on her food and coaxed her eat something.

Finally the dinner was done and everyone was sitting talking , arjun tried sitting next to arohi , but she quickly changed seats and sat next to raashi . that only made him sigh,atleast he can see her since she is sitting right in front of him. Soon they were talking about lot of things and mumbai came into picture. Lovedeep couldnot help but say 'arohi is going to mumbai for a workshop for two weeks, but we don't know much about the city' while arohi gave a dont tell look to bua, the eyes, ears and minds of all the singhania's present there became alert and sharp at this, 'really' raashi almost screeched , arjun couldnot believe what he heard and daadi looked like she was already working on it. 'where are you staying ' raashi questioned arohi again, holding her hand 'she doesnot know yet, we know very few people there and we are still looking at other options' bua replied, arjun frowned at other options and was about to say something. arohi wanted to change the topic , she did not want them to discuss about her plans , but raashi wouldnot let go 'you have not yet decided where to stay , then you stay with us , I am going to mumbai next week, jignesh is coming, even arjun is coming , you too join us , we will have lot of fun. I will take you wherever you want to go' arohi was stunned at this proposal , she had a split second eyelock with arjun and then looked at bua , then she told raashi 'no , it would be a trouble to you , I am looking at a place closer to the institute I have to go' 'where is that place' arjun questioned immediately , she had no option but to tell ** 'not a good area to stay' he quickly brushed it off, arohi wanted this to stop, she can take care of her plans, but daadi intervened ' haan beta, mumbai jaise sheher mein it is better you stay in a safe place, what is the use of our flats there if noone is staying, you go with raashi, if you feel uncomfortable you can take sanchit with you , and the area you told is at driving distance, raashi wont have any trouble in that and don't mind arjun or jignesh, they will be gone for whole day, they are going to work' arohi gave a weak reply 'I will think about it ' and to arjun it sounded like an yes.
