Beacuse Adi will not accept M as wife and Anu would have tried to force Adi with public humiliation - which is why Imlie left ....to save Adi's honor. When that was no longer a threat and became a reality - there was no need for her to stay away and she came back to fight on behalf of Adi.

She still has vishwaas in Adi.
