I've discussed this often with friends and family lol I think Aishwariya and Salman made such a beautiful pair that it was hard not to root for them to end up together.
I do agree that Vanraj was a great character and a perfect husband but in the end I felt really bad when Nandini rejected Sameer and he started crying. Did she make that decision just out of respect for her husband or had she actually fallen for him?
Sameer did not think once about Nandini when he left her for his so-called word to her father. She almost commits suicide and dies. He knew that her cousin had been forced into an abusive marriage. They could have done the same with Nandini. He did not think about any of those things. Instead waited for her to come to him in Italy. Leaving behind a trail of letters is not enough fighting for your genuine loved one. If I were Nandini I would have even been upset with Sameer. Surprisingly, enough she wasn't.
Vanraj, on the other hand, did not think about his male ego. He did not care about what society would say that he was helping his own wife commit infidelity after marriage. He knew Nandini's happiness lied in Sameer so he took her to him. Meanwhile, she acted like a spoiled brat the entire time.
At the end of the day, love is not all about attraction. That is the initial phase. The complicated emotions that love elicit can also find solace knowing that someone loves you enough that they are willing to do just about everything for your happiness. The way Nandini explains her rationale to Sameer at the end explains it all.
The one thing that they could have done better would have been made Vanraj's falling in love stage have more development. It seemed like mere physical attraction in the beginning. But we see later on that he cared deeply for Nandini personally. Perhaps even far more than Sameer ever did.
