I've discussed this often with friends and family lol I think Aishwariya and Salman made such a beautiful pair that it was hard not to root for them to end up together.

I do agree that Vanraj was a great character and a perfect husband but in the end I felt really bad when Nandini rejected Sameer and he started crying. Did she make that decision just out of respect for her husband or had she actually fallen for him?

Sameer gave her in daan to her father. And her father gave her hand in Kanyadaan to Vanraj. Their fate was sealed the day he left without even speaking to her on behest of her father.

I don't know about that but Salman and Katrina shud have DEFINITELY ENDED UP TOGETHER in Maine pyar kyun kia, that bugged me more. They both loved each other yet just bcos Sushmita's character looked after him and his mom so well, she gets to be his partner for lifetime and they are all ok with it adding to it is Kat marrying Sohail. What? I didn't sign up for that ending! It's like whole movie is one movie while the ending is different movie.

Sameer did not think once about Nandini when he left her for his so-called word to her father. She almost commits suicide and dies. He knew that her cousin had been forced into an abusive marriage. They could have done the same with Nandini. He did not think about any of those things. Instead waited for her to come to him in Italy. Leaving behind a trail of letters is not enough fighting for your genuine loved one. If I were Nandini I would have even been upset with Sameer. Surprisingly, enough she wasn't.

Vanraj, on the other hand, did not think about his male ego. He did not care about what society would say that he was helping his own wife commit infidelity after marriage. He knew Nandini's happiness lied in Sameer so he took her to him. Meanwhile, she acted like a spoiled brat the entire time.

At the end of the day, love is not all about attraction. That is the initial phase. The complicated emotions that love elicit can also find solace knowing that someone loves you enough that they are willing to do just about everything for your happiness. The way Nandini explains her rationale to Sameer at the end explains it all.

The one thing that they could have done better would have been made Vanraj's falling in love stage have more development. It seemed like mere physical attraction in the beginning. But we see later on that he cared deeply for Nandini personally. Perhaps even far more than Sameer ever did.

@bold I've forgotten little details about the story lol so thanks for reminding me. Yeah, he shouldn't have left her like that. I think Nandini wasn't so upset because it was her first love and she kind of got obsessed with that feeling and Sameer. It does happen a lot with first loves, you're totally blinded.

I think Sameer didn't have the courage to go all out for Nandini. Vanraj had that in abundance. It takes a lot of courage and strength for a man to give up his wife (whom he loves) for someone else.

Also, It had to be mere physical attraction in the beginning for Vanraj because it was an arranged marriage and Nandini is beautiful, he didn't know her at all. It is only after he begins to understand her does he fall for her.

Vanraj's falling in love stages could not have been explored a lot more I think because the film's primary pair was Aishwariya and Salman and they had to have the most screen time. I do think that Bhansali did very well with the triangle though. This is possibly my favourite love triangle and romantic film.

@bold He falls in love with her during the nimbooda dance. He does say at some point it was her confidence and talents as well. She was the complete opposite of him and opposites attract. He was a shy guy.

It is based on a true story of someone famous artist's female protege. The real-life woman was also very beautiful, talented and intelligent. That was who Nandini was aspired from. She had a very passionate romance with one of her master's students. It was full of nok jhoks and romance. While that not so passionate love of her husband who loved her selflessly to the end of his life. Her husband also took her to see that man much later in life. He had grown old by then and was still single. So clearly he loved her a lot too. But it just didn't come across with Sameer for someone reason. His behavior, love, and antics all were very amateurish. Someone else talked about it in a previous thread about the same exact topic. LOL! 😆

Why Athiya’s career ended up so badly?

Yes, she is not good actress but so is Jhanvi, Ananya, Sara and many other nepo kids. Even there are many outsiders that are not good at acting...
