Chapter: 4
After hearing jalal jodha decided something in her mind. She swiftly and carefully moved out from there and quickly took steps in the opposite direction...while hiding her face with the dupatta. She was walking fast not bothered about where she is going...she just wanted to be away from that vicinity where shenshah was residing.
After walking a lot her legs started giving up..she saw a temple and walked inside.
She was breathing heavily so she went and sat on a bench...there was a very big crowd accumulated in the temple place...it was shiv ji's temple. She started wondering about it *Yaha itne logon ki bheed kyu hai?* her conscious got interrupted when she heard a voice.
"Beti tumhe kuch chahiye?" jodha turned and saw a lady..she was about to say no when she remembered something..."Jee humei ek kagaz aur syaahi ki zarurat hai..bahut avashyak hai.." she said with an anticipating tone. "Beti wo waha mandir ke pujaari hai..unse jaake pucho..waha zarur milega tumhe jo chahiye"
"Dhanyavaad" Jodha smiled towards that lady and folded her hands in that gesture. The lady kept her hand on her head and said "Shivji ki kripa tumpe bani rahe aur ishwar kare tumhe unke jaisa pati mile" and she too smiled back and went off.Jodha was dumbfounded by lady's words..her minded shifted towards him and again that tinge of pain appeared in her eyes. All that vows and ties came in front of her eyes...the seven promises which they took infront of the agni kund and all their family reminded her of their broken marriage. But somewhere down her heart blushed deep pink when the lady wished her about her husband. She got a tilt from the crowd and she came into reality. She dismissed those thoughts and went towards the pujaari. She firstly bowed her head in front of shivji's murti then and then greeted pujari ji. Pujari too returned the gesture and offered her prasad. She took it and asked "Jee dhanyavaad...humei kisi ko aavashyak soochna bhejni hai..kya aapke paas kaagaz aur kalam hoga?" Pujari ji pointed towards a corner where all religious books were placed. She nodded her head and went towards rhe corner...she saw a paper and syaahidaan (Inkpot) near to it. She started writing the letter. Jalal's head was throbbing from pain but he was determined to find his lady love...he ordered his soldiers to get scattered around the place.
jalal""Tum 5 ki tukdi jungle ki dusri taraf jaake jodha begum ki talaash karo..aur hum sab idhar ki karte hai...fir raatri ke samay hum issi sthaan pe milenge.."
Soldiers went to their respective places and jalal got out of the hut in the search of jodha again. He was seriously hoping to find jodha this time..somehow the day had returned with a better urge in him to look for jodha..he was feeling motivated..but didn't knew the reason behind it.
Jalal""Kya aapne takreeban 20 saal ki yuvti ko dekha hai...who bahut khoobsurat hai aur unka kad hamare barabar sa hai..bhoori (brown) rang ki aankhein hai unki.." he asked a woman. Woman replied "Jee yaha toh kaafi log aate rehte hai..hum kis kiska dhyaan rakhe...nahi humne toh kisi ko dhang se nahi dekha" and she resumed her work. Jalal nodded at hwe and started looking here and there with a tensed expression""Kahan dhunde hum aapko jodha begum..."
Sun was looking at him with pride...he was sweating and the heat around him was making his willpower unstable...as he was leaving that place with his soldiers a lady came in front of him. Jalal saw her and came to a halt..the lady said""Aap wahi hai jinhe abhi kuch sipahi leke gaye the..?" "Jee haan hum hi hai wo.." "Aapko ek yuvti dhund rahi thi..." jalal eyes got widened "Kyaa..humei yaha koi kyun dhundega bhala.." "Pata nahi...par..wo aap hi ke bare mei puch rahi thi aur haan unhone issi rang ka dupatta odha hua tha" she pointed towards his head. Jalal touched the cloth which was tied to his head and then realization dawned upon him "Matlab wo yuvti humko dhund rahi thi jinhone humara raat bhar itna khayaal rakha..kya aap bata sakti hai who kidhar gayi thi?" "Maine unko aapke hi taraf bheja tha par lagta hai who aapse mil nahi paayi" jalal got a bit disappointed after hearing this. He really wanted to know who did so much for him. He left from there in deep thoughts...wondering about two woman's..one who is his life now and one who returned his life back to him.
Jodha kept the feather down and sighed deeply while closing her eyes...she held the letter in her hands and saw it again...it was necessary for both of them..she thought.
She then made her way out of the temple.*Hum kaise yeh sandesha shenshah tak pahuchaaye..khud toh jaa nahi sakte aur koi yaha jaanta bhi nahi hai unhe* she held her dupatta and kept it over her head..just falling till her neck so that nobody could see her face clearly through it and carefully hid the letter in her hands and started walking towards jalal's hut. She was aware about the circumstances but she had no option.
Soon she spotted a man in a mughal attire..."Yeh toh mughal sainik hai...zarur unme se hi ek hai aur shenshah ne inhe hamari khoj mei laga diya hai...humei kuch karna hoga.." she cautiously got away from his gaze and stealed glances of him. She spotted a kid playing there..."Suno...zara yaha aao..." kid went to jodha "Aap hamara ek kaam karoge?" jodha sat on her knees and politely asked the kid. Kid nodded...jodha said "Acha toh aap yeh sandesha jaake unn sainik ko de doge?" kid saw the letter then jodha then the man..he was confused..but nodded later.
The kid went and gave it to the sainik. Before he could ask about the letter the kid ran away from there. He opened it but as he was illiterate he didn't got a single word. He shoved it in his pockets and continued the search for jodha.
Jodha returned to the temple after giving the letter. This was the only place she felt secured as for now. She settled herself near a pillar and tilted her head towards it. These recent events had taken a toll over her, jalal getting injured...they getting close over his injury and now again apart from each other. It was not easy for her to leave him when his hand was just few inches away from hers.
*Aap apna khayaal kyu nahin rakh rahe hai shenshah..aapka ghaav abhi bhi bhara nahi tha ki aapne fir se humei khojna chaalu kar diya...hum uss sipahi ko dekhke samajh gaye the ki aap bhi humei aise hi dhund rahe honge..par hum nahi chaahte ki aap humei dhunde ya hamare liye koi kasht uthaaye...kripya karke chale jaiye wapas agra..hum nahin dekh sakte aapko aise..* she closed her eyes as tears started brimming out from them.
"Beti..? tum theek toh ho?"
Jodha came out of her thoughts and opened her eyes...she quickly wiped the tears off her face and saw pujaari ji standing before her.
"Haan hum theek hai..shukriya" she smiled...but it didn't reach her eyes.
She slowly stood up and faced him. Jodha's curiosity was back and she started looking here and there as the crowd was making her wonder about the occasion. Pandit ji saw her and answered with a smile..."Beta aaj mahashivratri hai!"
Jodha immediately looked at him and got her answer *Aaj mahashivratri hai! Aaj ke din toh..* he continue"Aaj ke din ek avivaahit yuvti (unmarried girl) vrat rakhke aur shiv ji ki puja karke unse kaamna karti hai ki usse bhi shivji jaisa var (groom) mile..." jodha smiled at him and said "Jee satya kaha aapne aur iss vrat ko ek vivaahit stree apne pati ki lambi aayu va uske saath khushi jeevan vyateet karne ke liye bhi rakhti hai aur sache dil se kari hui aradhna shiv ji zarur sunte hai" pujari ji got very happy with her answer. She was indeed a person who could charm anyone by her noble words and works. Pujari ji instantly said "Beta fir toh tumne bhi vrat rakha hoga..?" Jodha got puzzled at this question...she didn't kept fast for shenshah but co-incidentally she hadn't eaten anything since morning...maybe this was a sign from the lord. Jodha nodded at pujari ji "Jee..rakha hai humne vrat" pujari ji blessed her and left from there. She was caught in weird situation.
"Humei kal hi yaha se nikalna hoga...zyada der nahi reh paayenge iss jagah jaha shenshah khud upasthit ho..unke khayaal humei baar baar vichlit kar dete hai..." she calmed herself and then went do preparations for the puja so to divert her mind.
