This excerpt is dedicated to my dear friend Serial Junkie, who not only inspires me with her awesome humor, but also with her courage, tenacity and class.

Buddy me for PMs

Excerpt-

The electronic screen displayed the number 9. A woman in her early 20s who was wearing a pale yellow kurti teamed with blue leggings looked at the small card in her hands one last time. 'This is it,' she told herself. Then she calmly got up from her seat and walked towards Dr. Manisha Roy's room, her steps assured and her look falsely defiant.

The woman entered the room after knocking the door a couple of times. Dr. Roy was a woman in her mid 40s. She wore a neatly starched Bengal cotton saree. On her nose rested a pair of glasses, the ones with a black frame, which gave her a old school look. She didn't spare the woman in front of much of a glance and asked her to sit down.

She opened a new patient file on her computer. The hospital had implemented a new patient data recording system after a few important patient files went missing last year.. The CEO Avinav Reddy spent nearly 1.5 crores on a new software system. When asked by the board as to why such a big investment was required, he replied 'Instead of keeping the hospital open to any potential lawsuit in the future rising out of any missing patient files, thereby losing crores of Rupees over years, it makes sense to invest in an expensive but efficient software system.' Dr. Roy was impressed with the young man's farsightedness.

Dr Roy finally spared a look at the pale and tired looking girl and immediately turned back to her screen. She was already running late for her next appointment, pleasantries be damned. She had to wind up all her appointments before the weekend, before she could take her much awaited holiday with her family.

She began filling in the details of the patient sitting in front of her and decided to find more about her while doing so.

'What's your name,' Dr. Roy asked. 'Kushi Gupta,' the woman replied. 'Kushi, I'm going to as you a few details before I find out more about your appointment. I need to file these details. Is that okay?' Kushi nodded.

'Age?' '24 years and 2 months old,' Kushi remarked after making a mental calculation
'Title?' Kushi hesitated a little before replying 'Miss'
'Address?' 'No 24, Vasant Kunj Apts, Aurangazeb's Road, Delhi- 11', Kushi replied.

After filling in other mundane details, she finally turned her chair towards the girl in front of her and brought her glasses back so that they would rest on her eyes. 'So Kushi, how can I help you today,' Dr. Roy asked.

Kushi started nervously fiddling with the hem of her kurti. Dr Roy could see that Kushil was shivering a little. At that very moment, she knew why Kushi had come to consult her. In the 20 years of her professional experience she wasn't new to such nervousness displayed by some of her 1st time patients.

Kushi finally decided this had to be said, she had to get this out of the way. She could no longer delay the inevitable.

She took a deep breath and said 'I need an abortion.'

Disclaimer & Note-

The characters in this FF- IPk inspired characters belong to 4Lions and Star Plus. I do not own these characters, nor do I plan on owning them anytime soon.

This is entirely my story- but at the heart of it is a love and life story of 2 people. So you may come across some instances which may seem familiar and that's not because I have stolen them, but because they are real life inspirations. In spite of this if you still have concerns, I request you to PM me. I don't take kindly to public mudslinging.

Now that is out of the way- I'd appreciate any kind of feedback- negative or positive. I'm writing this FF to improve my writing skills and to tell a story. So please dont hesitate to share any negative feedback you may have. Even if you comment is as short as 'Thanks or Update soon' dont hesitate to post it. I promise not to bite you head and I'd be very happy with any comment short or long.

Thanks.

I hate it when others do it to me but I have to do it now - "I told you so!" This is so well written and from what I can gather - so well plotted out.

Woman, this doesn't feel like someone attempting fiction for the first time (right?). And given whatever I've read that's written by you, I am not surprised :)

So it is not surprising that I could almost see the doctor's starched Bengal cotton sari, the 24 year old, pale and nervous Khushi

An abortion - I think my heart broke a little. So much intrigue and it is just the excerpt!

Can't wait to see how this unfolds, K.

All the best for a great, great tale. I know you will spin life!

First Off Congrats Basanti...that you have started your journey to write...a wonderful and clensing experience...even if now one reads it and may an attempt is not spared by the delete button...

second thank you for letting us be part of that maiden run...
I will pm ya with details...but COngrats and the main idea behind the story if i am seeing it right..hold lots of potential...
heres hoping for a more mature story telling...and tale that carries an understanding of what life is...rather than the glorifying sweetnes of imagined love...

Basanti

this is not the work of an amateur, its got professional touch written all over it.

I can't wait to read your FF. as one of the most ardent readers of TFS, you gave me so much encouragement and support. I hope I can match it.

I owe two more authors big time - CW by meera and If I were you by Maxine. I havent forgotten. the three works will be my comfort food through december.
