Anushka's movie with Yash Chopra is definitely going to be the usual fare, but maybe there's hope in the one with Vishal Bhardwaj. Good possibility for Ranveer too with Vikramaditya Motwane and Anurag Kashyap...let's see how they turn out. Biggest saving grace of LVRB in my eyes is that it didn't ruin BBB and kill the pankha in me 😆 Fortunately for them, Ranveer and Anushka didn't end up doing an entirely boring, crass or brainless movie.

Review: Ladies vs Ricky Bahl is sluggish and predictable

An inexplicably sluggish pace and forgettable songs thrown in every few scenes kill any possibility of a narrative rhythm in Ladies vs Ricky Bahl, writes Raja Sen.

It's always tragic to see those who defy the cookie-cutter mould try and sanitise themselves in an attempt to fit in. Ranveer Singh, who was fantastic in last year's Band Baaja Baaraat, here has his rough edges blunted by the generic sheen of wannabe stardom, and the result is most unfortunate.

He struts through Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl mostly in slow-motion, often shirtless and constantly posing for the camera, but a mere workout does not a Hrithik Roshan [
Images ] make.

When I applauded Band Baaja Baaraat and rated him 2010's finest actor, I was struck most by how impressively Ranveer carved his own non-traditional path, eschewing vanity and sticking to character instead of concentrating on showing off his most flattering profile. A star was born and now, as he tries to fit into the industry definition of a star, the result is an excruciatingly slow-motion film that drags on as it exposes his every weakness.

There is a plot in Maneesh Sharma's latest, but essentially imagine a long and rather unfunny Khosla Ka Ghosla [ Images ] and you'll get the gist. Ricky Bahl swindles a bunch of interesting but gullible women, and they -- in Not A Penny More, Not A Penny Less fashion -- scheme to get their own back, hiring a woman to con the conman. Yada yada yada, and so we have a template film you can essentially predict. It might still have worked if not for the inexplicably sluggish pace and forgettable songs thrown in every few scenes, killing any possibility of a narrative rhythm.

There's some quirky texture on display, particularly in the early sections. As Sunny Singh, a Delhi [ Images ] gym trainer (talking just like he did in BBB), Ranveer's amusing enough. There's a chain around his neck with a dumbbell hanging on it, looking like a bone dangling just within reach. Next, as an exhibitor of paintings with an effete walk and an aptly annoying proclivity to say the word 'art' roundedly, with a nearly silent 'r', he's fine as well. But soon the chameleonic routine becomes tiresome, episodic and purely superficial. There is detailing, but he isn't suave enough to make the character work -- and it's hard to care about a protagonist if he's constantly stretching credibility.

The girls, on the other hand, are mostly good. Anushka Sharma [ Images ], ebullient enough to make me want to change my cellphone network by dint of a ten-seconder on TV, tries hard (and looks very fit in a gratuitous bikini shot) but, playing a salesgirl overflowing with vim who eventually turns oddly sheepish, has precious little to play with. Dipannita Sharma's efficient and very believable as a hard-nosed executive allergic to nonsense, and Aditi Sharma's [ Images ] pleasant enough. The only positive from this film, though, is the Dilli ki ladki.

Playing a Delhi character with dialogues written by Habib Faisal automatically guarantees some meat for an actor, and young Parineeti Chopra is both adorable and genuine enough to spark up some laughs, even when all she's doing is pronouncing LOL to rhyme with "doll." She's a smart-alecky girl utterly besotted with the man they hate, awestruck by how cannily he fooled her father, and the role is the film's nicest. (Clearly the thing to remember in Faisal's films is that whoever gets to say the word "kaand" walks away with the film.)

But while Faisal delivers a few good lines, he isn't to blame for Devika Bhagat's sluggish script. A very predictable con-versus-con film can be made enjoyable, but it needs to be breezy and engaging. We need to want to take sides and we need to care about the twists, and by the time Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl winds down in extremely simplistic fashion, we just don't care anymore. If this were a better-made film, we might have been justifiably outraged by the lame sexism meted out at the climax, but for now yawning seems reaction enough.

It's funny, really. With his first film we hoisted Ranveer Singh high above our shoulders because he scoffed at Shah Rukh Khan [
Images ] and very memorably told a bride how weddings didn't need superstars; now, in his second film, he has an SRK [ Images ] dialogue as his caller-tune, and all it forces us to notice is how far he is from the Shah Rukh standard of superstardom.

With each new movie, Anushka Sharma's characters turn more s**ttish.

Bowing to gravity the top cover keeps slithering down, defying gravity the bottom vestments keep going up and demo'ing the geometric construction of an equilateral triangle the distance between the legs keep getting wider (during the dances).

Hey, what gives?

A short while ago, in Ladies vs Ricky Bahl we caught a glimpse of her character's pale 34B tits encased in a revealing black bikini, lavish display of silky-smooth thighs, well-toned, fleshy (almost) bare derriere, nice midriff, mostly bare-back etc.

Now if only her characters would drop those s**ttish 'he-he, see my tits and ass' antics and start acting, we'd be drooling.

In interviews, Ms.Sharma claims to work very hard.

At what, we wondered sopra voce and not without anger.

Certainly not at acting where restraint is not a word in Ms.Sharma's lexicon.

Far too often, in our not so humble opinion the gal's characters go overboard in the emoting department and the revealing deportment.

No Big Deal

No, we're not talking of Ms.Sharma's well-nourished assets now but of the movie Ladies vs Ricky Bahl.

No big deal, kiddo.

Truth be said, considering it was a Yash Raj production we'd already dialed G for Garbage before we forked out $10.50 T for Tickets.

Borrowing the basic premise of three wronged women out on a revenge mission from the Hollywood sophomoric drivel John Tucker Must Die (Jesse Metcalfe, Brittany Snow etc), Ladies vs Ricky Bahl's writer and producer Aditya Chopra makes enough changes to deflect charges of plagiarism but is ultimately unable to render a watchable movie.

We borrowed John Tucker Must Die from our county library and watched endured it yesterday.

Mon dieu, it was plain awful.

Ladies vs Ricky Bahl is no less trashy.

The three wronged high-school girls in the Hollywood film become the three wronged women in Ladies vs Ricky Bahl's.

In both versions, the wrong girls use a different gal to extract their revenge. The girl is Kate (Brittany Snow) in John Tucker Must Die and Ishika (Anushka Sharma) in Ladies vs Ricky Bahl.

The difference between the Hollywood and Bollywood productions is that in the English film the Casanova breaks the girls hearts, while in the Hindi version the rascal dupes the women of their money.

Midwifed by a sophomoric story and abetted by a bunch of crappy songs, some hideous dances, less than impressive acting, all ye get for sacrificing your time and money for the Bollywood version is 2 hours and 20-minutes of unendurable pain in the backside.

None of the girls, be it Parineeti Chopra (as the snarky Dimple Chaddha), Dipannita Sharma (the revenge planner Raina Parulekar) or Aditi Sharma (the mousy Saira Rashid) show much in the way of acting chops.

Like Anushka Sharma, they take up screen space, that's all they do.

What About Ranveer Singh?

Since we look at all young Bollywood males through the prism of that dodo Abhishek Bachchan, we'd written Ranveer Singh off.

Big mistake folks.

This Ranveer fellow can act and shows potential.

In the right hands (definitely not Aditya Chopra or his Jalebi-walla father Yash Chopra), the lad could climb the Bollywood ladder to stardom.

For us, the only enduring aspect of the movie was Ranveer Singh.

The rest, story, music and dancing was unvarnished junk.

But just as the wanton display of Ms.Sharma's assets did nothing for us the repeated flaunting of the hero's bare chest failed to stimulate us. Looked ugly!

Not Worth It

If the first 2-hours were stupid, the last 20-minutes was absolute nonsense.

The limp ending made no sense whatsoever.

As if the film's makers completely ran out of oxygen!

OMG, the last song (during the credits) with Anushka (displaying her thighs almost up to her mons veneris) and Ranveer tromping up and down was obscenely horrible.

Guys, if we've said it once we've said it a million times.

Yash Raj Films' pater familias Yash Chopra should leave the movie business to the professionals and spend the evening of his life minding a jalebi shop.

Folks, Ladies vs Ricky Bahl is just not worth it.

If you can move a mouse, you can ogle better 'assets' on the Internet for free than spend $10.50 to see Anushka Sharma's B-grade assets or Ranveer Singh's six-pack chest.

Some more reviews out there...DNA,India Today,Hindustan Times, Mumbai Mirror and one By Nikhat Kazmi..

All similar..all praise Parineeti( imagine she is one of the 3 sidies in the film😲)

And,because she is going to be launched By YRF as a heroine in Ishaqzaade opposite Arjun Kapoor..I would say that a star is born⭐️

Ranbir,Imran,Shahid will be watching closely..They desperately need heroines...

B.O. update: 'Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl' starts on ordinary note

By Taran Adarsh, December 10, 2011 - 08:32 IST
LADIES VS RICKY BAHL has started on an average to below average note. The opening can be best described as ordinary, except for a few screens of North, where the film opened on a slightly better note. What comes as a surprise is the fact that the film was expected to fetch at least 60% + start, in view of the fact that the successful team of BAND BAAJA BAARAAT had teamed up again. But the opening of LADIES VS RICKY BAHL ranged from 20% to 35%, on an average.

The business of LADIES VS RICKY BAHL will have to show a big jump on Saturday and Sunday, if it has to post respectable numbers in its opening weekend.

BBB had Habib Faisal writing the script as well I think...that's the difference.

It's really dumb & stupid to hate on a movie or wish bad for it even without seeing it, only because you don't like the actor(s) in it. Why be so insensitive? I know it's just a movie, but still it involves alot of hardwork by various people involved in it.
It's a completely different matter if you've seen the movie, hated it & then wish it to flop. But to wish it flops even though you haven't seen it is just so dumb & insensitive.

i am also sorry to land on a place where members keep dreaming abt couples and making out 24^7 plzzz🤢 and what hard work r u talking abt? from the promos and movie, where is the hardwork seen? if adding to glamour and changing getups is hardwork, then india would be developed country for sure😆 or if i start beating an animal and i work hard on that, will it be called hardworking? such movies that waste people's time should be flopped and gives lessons that they should not be made again...its almost a copy of john tucker must die, i have no shame to admit that YES I WANT this movie to flop and will ask others to step in the real world and come out of ur couple dreams🤪 YUCK🤢
