Bandini
This Ekta Kapoor show had taken a 10 year leap. Viewers witnessed some high-voltage drama in which Dharmaraj and Arjan had a huge tiff when the latter tried to hurt but eventually lost his life and Santo was accused for it. She is jailed and with this the leap starts. Birva Mahiyavanshi, the daughter of Dharmaraj Mahiyavanshi (Ronit Roy) will be grown up. The first episode post-leap was aired in January. The show's been doing well, both before and after the leap.

Softness Behind The Power: Neelam Bose Roy (An Old Article from Shaaditimes.com)
Neelam Bose Roy, actress, mother of two, and wife to India's most popular television actor Ronit Roy really defines the belief: Softness is the force behind the power.
Neelam With Ronit
A tall lithesome willowy woman, her delicate demeanour in no way represents her strength of character, solid heart, and deep intellect. Shaaditimes caught up with Neelam in Mumbai recently to find out if motherhood, children and being Ronit's wife for five years has changed their lives and their love.
Ronit, for you all out of the Bollywood ghup shup, married the former model and television actress in a private and pious ceremony on December 25, 2003. Theirs wasn't a whirlwind romance as they had known each other for three years prior to their marriage and had courted with the dream to eventually marry one day.
Neelam With Ronit And Family
They have two daughters named Aadore and Agastya who Neelam tells us consume most of her time. ''My life revolves around my children and Ronit,'' says Neelam. She clarifies, ''I am still in love with my man, my marriage and my relationship. I believe we have weathered some ups and downs, and life has been hectic, but it's also been generally good,'' she laughs.
At first glance Neelam appears glamorous and model-like, but as the interview progresses she comes across as a down-to-earth, no nonsense type of woman that lifts the idea of wife, mother and lover to her husband to a status of ''domestic engineer''.

She shrugs off the suggestion, ''Yes, both Ronit and I are very disciplined individuals though we may come across as playful,'' she admits. ''We lead extremely hectic lives under the scrutiny of the media which can be enjoyable and difficult both at the same time,'' she says and adds, ''I am the one that looks after our private space, our alone time. We don't get much time to spend together so we don't ignore a word we speak.

We appreciate each other and fight also.'' She continues, "Our private life isn't the glamorous life that one would imagines from a Bollywood couple. I make him a quick breakfast, and if he spends a half hour with me I am thrilled to be able to share a meal together. At night we light a candle during dinner after I have put the children to bed and try to re-create the romance in our lives."
Neelam With Ronit
Is Ronit a good father? "Ronit is wonderful with the children. I believe he is the best human on earth."
And what does he have to say? "Neelam is the best woman, best mother, best person." Neelam gently reproaches him, "Its true. Flattery gets you everywhere."
What are the qualities she best admires in him? After mulling this for a while she declares without hesitation, "He's a good listener. Even nonsense things that I gibber off to him he listens to. And when I think he's really not listening he really is. I just wish we could spend more time with each other."
What is the chemistry they share? Can she describe it? Is it possible? According to Neelam, her upbringing has played an important role as is his. Neelam hails from an upper middle-class background. "We are three sisters, and we are an orthodox Gujarati family and the only advice my mother told me when I was younger was to find a career, whatever I wanted to do, but most importantly the most important decision of my life was to find a good man. And what she meant by that was not someone that was too monied, although money is important, but someone that would care and look after me and most importantly loves me more than I love him." She stops and then divulges, "Though I think as women, we tend to love our husbands unconditionally."

What if she heard murmurings of another woman especially since Ronit is devilishly handsome, and extremely charming? She pauses for a moment, "I hope and pray the same emotion should be inside me as I feel today. I am committed to my husband. My inner knowing says that day will not happen. Ronit will not disappoint me."
On a lighter note, what is the best day she has cherished with Ronit? "I think it was a holiday to Venice. We both were on the Gondola and Ronit started to serenade me with Hindi songs amidst the sonnets of the violinist."

She continues, "Each day we squeeze time to be together. When he's not filming we like to spend time with the children, having a quiet dinner, or just reading and holding hands. When he is filming I make it a point to send him a tiffin for his mid-day break each day. I instigate our off time. If I know he has a couple of days break coming up we plan to slip away even to Lonavala. I think we both need to rejuvenate."
Both Neelam and Ronit believe a healthy spirit starts with the body and they both workout at the Gym. "I believe it's important to workout and if Ronit is working out, I try to do the same. Our mantra is have healthy foods. We enjoy vegetables and pasta, also nice and spicy Maharastrian cuisine. We also try to pray together. He has a wonderful character and I think it's because of his strong belief in God," she says. Currently Ronit can be viewed on the Channel 9X as Bhishma in Balaja's epic Mahabharata.

Parent Trap (Old Article)

Like all working parents, star parents are also on their toes. As a result kids are most of the times left in the house with a caretaker or a maid. We spoke to some star wives to find out how they manage work and children.
Neelam Roy

When both I and Ronit are out, my mother in law comes to my place and takes care of my kids. I have a girl who baby sits them but I do not trust her so I prefer my mother in law. Then sometimes my brother in law's kids and my kids go out on lunch together. They stay at each other's place or we take them to malls for playing games. I also take them out for swimming. As far as Ronit is concerned, whenever my daughter misses him I take her on sets and we have lunch together over there. This year we have had 3 holidays so far and we are looking forward to more. We try to have small holidays of 3-6 days so that Ronit can spend time with them. Some days he even stays back at home to spend time with her. At other times, he just does directly to her school from the sets to pick her up.

Ronit Roy bags international project

Ronit Roy bags international project

Television actor Ronit Roy admits he has signed an international project, but refused to divulge any further details.

"It's too early to talk about it. I have agreed (to do the international project) in principle. All further discussions are pending," Ronit, who attended the Cannes Film Festival for the screening of his Hindi film "Udaan", told us on SMS. .............

Meanwhile, the actor is hoping for a positive response to 'Udaan', a coming of age drama by Vikramaditya Motwane, in which he plays an authoritative father.

Ronit started his career with the movie 'Jaan Tere Naam' in 1992 and later did films like 'Hulchul', 'Sainik' and 'Dosti Ki Saugandh', but couldn't make it big in movies.

Later he moved on to the small screen and became a household name after featuring in TV shows like 'Kasautii Zindagii Kay' and 'Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thhi'.

These days he is being seen in Imagine TV's 'Bandini' and is also set to host 'Kitchen Champion', a cookery show on Colors.

Santo To Return Home; Is Megha Cheating Dharamraj?
'Bandini', Imagine TV's long running show, is going for a six month-leap – it's third in 2010. What masala is this Balaji show dishing up this time?

Well, Santo (Asiya Qazi) will be seen in a new and simple look as he spends life in remote Dungarpur village. She will return to her husband's place at Dharmapaur. But before that focus will be on Santo's life in Mahivanshi house. New characters will be introduced and predominantly among them will be a character called Bhuvan, who will fall in love with Santo. The actor isn't finaslized yet.

"After leaving Dharampur, Santo will be living the life of simpleton in Dungarpur. Here, she will find new characters, principally among them is a character called Bhuvan, who likes Santo. However, Santo will return back to Dharmapur. The focus will then shift back to Dharamraj (Ronit Roy), Dr. Megha, and the illegitimate son Vishal. Some time later, it might be revealed that Vishal isn't Dharamraj's child, and Megha (Firdaus) is cheating on DM", said a reliable source.

Men make mark in women's world of TV soaps

Men have often taken the back seat when it comes to Indian television soaps - a patriarchal society notwithstanding.

But not any more. A loverboy, a father, a flamboyant college student or just a common man - the portrayal of men has become as important as that of women on the small screen.

Producer Rajan Shahi, who is behind shows like "Sapna Baabul Ka...Bidaai", "Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai" and "Chand Chupa Badal Mein", says the change has emerged ever since the focus has shifted from "one woman and her dilemmas".

"Stories are no longer one-dimensional. All three of my shows are not just about one girl and her viewpoint. They are stories about people, families - the father, brother and their viewpoints," Shahi told.

"Producers are no longer playing on just hero-heroines - they are playing on characters. Everybody is getting an equal balance. Father and brother play an equally important role and are given equal prominence," he adds.

Harshad Chopra's role as a loverboy in "Chand Chupa Badal Mein", Anup Soni's role as a father in "Balika Vadhu" or flamboyant college students in "Miley Jab Hum Tum" - the portrayal of men has undergone a sea change on television.

Until about five years back, Tulsi, Parvati, Prerna, Komolika and such iconic characters of the small screen hogged most of the limelight. Men were then considered supporting cast, barring a few lucky ones like Ronit Roy and Ram Kapoor, who became household names thanks to the success of their respective shows - "Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi" and "Kasamh Se".

Ronit, who is hosting a cookery game show these days, says he feels "great being a man in a woman's world".

"At the advent of satellite TV, when shows like 'Kyunki...' came, the target was the woman audience. The shows were purely made for women. It was like the Indian government - for women, by the women, of the women," he adds.

"Most producers were also women - Ekta Kapoor, Aruna Irani, Diya Singh. 'Kyunki...' was about 'saas-bahu', not about Mihir Virani. 'Kasauti Zindagi Kay' was about Prerna's problems. The central character of every show would remain a woman, but at no point have I felt left out," the actor says.

"If you ask someone about Mihir Virani...they would know, ask about Rishabh Bajaj, they would know...Dharamraj Mayvanshi from 'Bandini'...that also they would know...so at no point have I felt that my character has been eclipsed by a woman character," he adds.

Today male actors have become an integral part of scripts. In fact, SAB TV mustered up the courage to come up with "Papad Pol - Shahabuddin Rathod Ki Rangeen Duniya", in which the protagonist is just a common man, played by actor Swapnil Joshi.

Anooj Kapoor, business head of SAB TV, explains: "The idea of using a female protagonist is to involve the women. But the idea of an underdog, dark, very sweet, helpless man wins sympathy from everybody. So we decided to go ahead."

Joshi, 32, who has been in the industry for over two decades, says he hopes to see an upsurge in the number of male protagonists on the small screen. He believes many male actors developed a name for themselves only with reality shows.

"I'm very happy and overwhelmed to do a show where a man is the lead. When was the last time we saw a male protagonist in a mainstream Hindi television show? The numbers drastically went down," he says.

"When I did 'Ramayan', Ram was the central character, in 'Shri Krishna', Krishna was the main character. But when I did 'Amanat', it was a story of seven sisters," the actor says.

"The phase of female-centric shows began. 'Des Mein Niklaa Hoga Chand' was about Pammi, and then the saas-bahu serials started. It was probably only when reality shows came in when actors started getting an identity," he says.

Citing an example he said: "Actor Ali Asgar was known as Kamal of 'Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki' until he featured in 'Comedy Circus'. He came to be known by his real name then. Reality TV gave men a name as actors. Hopefully, now we start a new trend so that males are taken as protagonists even more frequently," he adds.
