Ronit Roy gets candid
Ronit Roy is one happy man these days; the actor is pretty much the king of Indian television, and now he is making his mark in the movies as well. Udaan, a film by debutant director Vikramaditya Motwane, starring Ronit has been selected for the screening in the Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes Film Festival. And Ronit is on his way to Cannes where the film will be screened in May. We caught up with the actor to know more.

Did you expect that Udaan will be selected for screening at the Cannes Film Festival?
"Not really but now I am waiting for the big day to arrive when I will go to Cannes, France. It is team work that has really paved off. I am hoping that even the jury of the Cannes Film Festival will appreciate our hard work."

What was Neelam's reaction about this good news?
"She is happy and was confident about my work and her appreciation matters to me a lot as she is my support system."

How is it working with a director like Vikramaditya Motwane and producer Anurag Kashayap?
"Its was great fun to work with such a young director who is focussed on his work while Anurag is a very dear friend of mine and for all of us it is a great achievement."

About TV, we heard that Bandini is going off air?
"It is just rumours because I am shooting for the show daily and I haven't received any final call from Balaji or from the channel about shutting down the show..."

Any Offers from Ekta Kapoor for her new shows?
"Not yet…let's see what she will offer me.."

How are you managing both IPL finals security arrangements and shooting?
"I am working day and night for both because it's my work and work is my passion. IPL security is a huge responsibility for my company. I manage it because I have got a good working team."

Which cricketers have met in this IPL?
"I have given security to most of IPL teams and players like Sachin Tendulkar and his team and Sourav Ganguly. All are really very good and humble."

After IPL are you taking a break?
"I am planning to but my work won't allow because now I am sleeping only for 4 hours and if I get 8 hours sleep, I will be happy with it."

How is your son Agastya now?
"Thanks for the concern, but now he is fine..."

I AM: Ronit Roy
For me, spirituality is a way of life through which we can keep contact with our inner self. It's the juncture at which i stop to smell the roses once in a while, rather than continuing the rat race.

I consider myself spiritual when i want to do things not to prove a point to someone but to 'facilitate' life — my own and that of others around me. In short, spirituality is an effort to be with my spirit, my soul and my mission of this lifetime.

I believe in every way of praising the god. No specific deity or religion is more important to me than the other. I am always curious to know about different cultures and different ways of embracing spirituality.

I visit temples and perform pujas on special days such as Ganesh Chaturthi, Durga Puja, Navratri etc. Besides, i also organize jagran at home sometimes.

But i do not wear any amulets for luck. I believe 'i am what i am' and will face my destiny. I would rather clean up my own karma than fall back on lucky charms. Chanting mantras is good for concentration and meditation. But, i do not chant. I am a believer in the Zen philosophy, so for me, life itself is like a meditation.

I don't feel i have to 'turn to' the higher power as the higher power is inside me and all i do during the tough times is to keep in mind that He is with me. I don't have any fixed philosophy in life — every day i make additions to it. However, a few key words could be honesty, courage, righteousness, simplicity and non-violence.

(As told to Arun Sharma; Ronit Roy is a TV actor, anchor)

Ronit Roy turns cook!
TV actor Ronit Roy, who is working day and night for his show Bandini and his security agency, will now be seen in a different role. The actor is now turning host for a cookery show on Colors. Here is what Ronit Roy wants to tell about his passion for cooking and more.

This new role as chef doesn't match your personality…
"No, it doesn't! One finds it hard to imagine me in the kitchen rustling up a meal. And that's precisely why I accepted the show. When Ashwini, the channel programming head approached me, I didn't know how to react. I was stumped for a moment. Later, when we discussed the show's format, I found myself comfortable in doing this show."

Will you be seen cooking in the show?
"Not much. The format goes into multiple genres. It's not a serious cookery show, where the chef rustles up one recipe after another. We'll have leading ladies from most of the shows on Colors exhibiting their cooking talent. We'll also have a master chef giving out the recipes."

What made you choose Kitchen Champion to debut as an anchor?
"Nobody knows and has seen me cooking and moreover, I have never anchored a show in my life. It was a coming together of two different aspects and seemed a lot of fun. So with this show, I have decided that I will pass on some of my culinary tips on the show, stuff that I learnt during my bachelor days."

Do you still cook?
"Yes, whenever I have time I enter the kitchen and take charge. I enjoy shopping with my wife Neelam for exotic food items, though it's one of the toughest dishes on the Italian menu to get right, I can assure you that I can make a mean risotto. In fact, I can make five-six different kinds of risottos. Honestly speaking, I have never been trained in cooking. During my bachelor days, I used to make Soya Muttar and my friends would think that it was Keema Muttar."

Ok, then which are your favorite dishes?
"Risotto, I love it so much that I've actually learnt how to make it. Three Cheese Risotto is my favorite, and then comes Thai Curry and rice; green curry is rather nice and balanced. Whereas in Indian food, I like Punjabi's favorite Rajmah-Chawal…It's an all-time favorite khana, I can eat this recipe all the time."

Do you cook a meal for Neelam, your wife?
"My wife keeps changing her food pattern every few months. She is a very good cook and I get scared to cook for Neelam."

For a man, his mother remains his best cook, right?
"Of course, I certainly believe that no one can match up to my mother's rasoi. She makes a cabbage dish in curd base, which is one of my favorite vegetarian Bengali recipes and her Bengali daal is superb..."

We heard that during your initial days, you used to do tiffin services?
"When I was courting Neelam, I used to cook at home sometimes and also take a dabba for my colleagues. They would relish the food. Now that I don't have time; I rarely cook and take packed tiffins on the sets."

"Bandini reminds me of Kyunki" -- Sumeet Sachdev
Saturday, 01 May 2010 23:16

Sumeet Sachdev, who managed quite a fan following as Gomzi, or Gautam, in 'Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi', saw one of his shows, 'Pyaar Ka Bandhan', going off air this week. And with that Sumeet has now made an entry in 'Bandini' as Rudr, a close friend of Sarang's. But it seems being on the sets of 'Bandini' is taking him on a trip into memory lane.

In a casual chat with TellyCafe, the actor says, "We usually did individual shoots for 'Pyaar Ka Bandhan', but shooting for 'Bandini' is a lot like 'Kyunki...' where there were a lot of characters and all. Also, I have worked with Ronit earlier and we share a good rapport. There is a lot of energy on the sets as there are all youngsters." He adds, laughing, "And I simply love wearing dhotis. I think I'm going to buy a couple of them soon."

We found that Sumeet's character in 'Bandini' has some gray shades, and when asked whether Rudr shares any similarities with Gautam, he says, "I wouldn't say that. Gomzi was basically a spoilt brat but was not evil at heart. It was the circumstances and upbringing that made him what the kind of person he was. On the other hand, Rudr is caught in an obsession for Dharamraj Mahiyavanshi's wife and because she keeps insulting him, it indirectly adds fuel to the fire. Also, he is from a city background and does not see the limitations of village culture."

A blow by blow account

Onlookers were horrified as Aditya Pancholi and Ronit Roy almost came to fisticuffs following a heated argument at a suburban night club
On Friday night, during an event at a suburban night club, good friends Aditya Pancholi and Ronit Roy had a heated argument in full public view. Although the reason for their fight is still unknown, they apparently almost came to blows.

A source present at the event said, "Ronit and Aditya were standing at the bar and having an animated conversation. Their voices suddenly went to shouting pitch and they started exchanging abuses. Ronit was so angry that he smashed a glass on the floor.

At that point, some people tried to mediate and cool things down. But then they proceeded to the washroom to sort out the matter.

The argument continued late into the night after which both Aditya and Ronit left separately. What transpired between the two is not known but from the look of it, it seems to be a major issue. Had people around not tried to intervene, they would have definitely exchanged blows."

Ronit and Aditya

While Ronit Roy confirmed the altercation, he insisted it was a minor tiff. Ronit said, "It was just an exchange of words. Nothing really happened. I don't think there was any fist fight and neither did I break any glass. Things are normal between us. He is an old friend and such things happen between friends."

However, Aditya Pancholi had a different version. He said, "We were just having a discussion about Ronit's security business. I was with my wife, Zarina, and daughter, Sana, so there is no question of me getting into a fight at all. Ronit has been my friend for the last 18 years and his wife Neelam ties me rakhi.

We just had a session of arm wrestling and everyone put two and two together and assumed we were having a fight. There was no fight and we definitely did not abuse each other."

However, freelance photographer Ramakant Munde confirmed the story. He said, " Ronit smashed the glass and also tried to break my camera."

Birwa's secret to be revealed in Bandini!!

DM and Santo's marriage is on the rocks in Imagine's Bandini, and this is when the secret behind Arjan's death will be revealed...

Yet another 'atoot' rishta is on the verge of a break-up in Imagine and Balaji Telefilms' Bandini, as Dharamraj (Ronit Roy) wants a divorce from Santo (Aasiya Kazi) just because he cannot tolerate his son Arjan's killer in his house!!

Well, there is a twist to come here in tonight's episode, as it will be revealed to DM that it was Birwa (Hritu Dhudani) who killed Arjan.

According to our source, "There will be a one hour episode tonight, wherein the entire family is celebrating DM's birthday. On the day, DM confronts Santo and tells her that he seeks a divorce from her, and somewhere down the line expects Santo to speak the real truth!! But Santo who has been hiding the truth for 10 long years does not want to speak up, and opts to leave the house. This is where DM understands that there is some hidden past. In the meantime, Birwa opens up as she cannot see Santo going out, and blurts out the truth which leaves the entire family stunned".

It is to be seen whether DM will accept Santo as his wife, once the truth is out!!

When contacted, Aasiya Kazi told us, "Yes, it is true that the secret behind the death of Arjan will come out in tonight's episode. There is every likelihood that DM will accept Santo once he gets to know that she is innocent".

At the same time, the creative team is working on a track wherein they will show the doctor of Nandini having a past connection with DM.

Also if sources are to be believed, it will be revealed in the coming episodes that Santo had delivered a son thro' DM, when in jail. It is heard that a 10 year old kid will be making his entry soon!!

Lots of twists to look forward to, in Bandini!!
