Chapter 4: Moment of truth

Valmiki sensed the presence of Sita and opened his eyes expressing the concern for benevolent daughter.

Sita: Pranam, rishi

Valmiki: Strength is not there in your voice, Sita

Sita: When my strength is being tested in ayodhya, how can I be?

Valmiki: (understood that Sita's strength Ram is facing another tough time in palace) This is not the first time your strength being tested, so why do you have this much worries?

Sita: Rishi, you know everything including the future, still if you want me to tell in detail, let me do so. It is this group of people who raised the question of my character and taunted the King of Ayodhya. We took the decision to separate physically from each other to put an end point to the gossip. Though some people didn't liked my exile initially, got adjusted with the move later on. I came to know this, from the ashram people. Now, when Shiv linga is inclined, people again blame the King. Is our decision wrong or mata parvati wants to test us?

Valmiki: You both have taken the decision thinking about the well-being of people. Now people are making assumptions of your banishment, thinking about their own welfare. It is not always possible to satisfy everyone for every issue in which case one has to move away from dharam. King Ram won't do adharm to please anyone. Now people concern is not about you, but it's about the fear of punishment for them. They think Lord Shiva and Mata Parvati will punish them for banishing you from kingdom.

Sita: Rishi, though I can understand the situation, I can't be here peacefully when king is in trouble. Moreover, I am concerned for the Shiv lingam, which king built for the people (though she feels Ram built for her in specific).

Valmiki: Sitadevi, Can you go there again? If you go to temple also, will you be able to come back?

Sita: I don't know what to do now apart from doing prathnas to mata parvati. Let mata save my Ayodhya King and his people.

Valmiki: Absolutely Sita. Do prathnas, as per you wish.

Sita enter the Lord Shiv and Mata Parvati mandir in the ashram and started her prayers.

In Ayodhya, there are no lamps lit in the room of Kaikeyi. Seeing the darkness in the room, Mandavi entered the room.

Mandavi: Pranam, matha

Kaikeyi: (clearing her tears) Come Mandavi, any news about the reason for inclined Shiv lingam? Did people stop blaming my son Ram? Did he had food in the afternoon? I didn't see him from morning.

Mandavi: Sorry matha, I don't know anything about what you asked but I know one thing for sure, that he will be tensed if he knows that you are crying here.

Kaikeyi: (she is unable to control her tears.) I am the cause for all these bad things happening in ayodhya.

Hearing the convo, entered Sumitra, Kaushalya, Urmila and Shruthkirti and greeted them. Urmila and Shruthkirti illuminated all the lamps as per the order of Kaushalya.

Kaikeyi: Why you people want me to come to light? These lights will not clear out the darkness settled in my mind. (she literally bust out the inner turmoil.)

Sumitra:Didi,why do you blame yourself for everything? What happened is something which we can't change but we can surely learn from it and see to that it never repeats.

Kaushalya: What do you mean Sumitra? Do you mean something which happened before is going to repeat again?

Kalkeyi: As long as I am here, all bad events will occur again and again.

Kaushalya: Stop blaming yourself. The world is not rotating as per our wish. As long as we don't know about any proof for the linga incident, let's not connect the past and worry. I don't know why Sita left without telling anything.

Urmila can't restrain herself.

Urmila: Sorry to interrupt matha, Sita didi won't hide anything from anyone. But she won't utter words until it's asked for.

Sumitra:We knew it Urmila. But Kaushalya didi means why she went on that day from palace without meeting us or saying anything to us.

Mandavi: Matha, Sita didi was not ordered by King Ram as they have taken the decision in their room and not in the court. So its a decision between husband and wife which I and my sisters can't ask the King. If didi's husband ordered or requested her to go for exile, she could have met us or atleast taken the blessings from you all, before leaving the palace. I feel, Sita didi by herself has taken this step of going for exile and thus she avoided meeting us. Because she knows, that we ask for her reconsideration.

Kaikeyi: I don't know why god favored me with such wonderful sons and daughter-in-laws even after knowing my fault.

Sumitra: Didi, again you started blaming. Okay, let me join you. It's not only you who is blessed.

Kaikeyi hugs Sumitra and Kaushalya joins them. Urmila, Mandavi and Shruthkirti gets lost in their thought of missing Sita didi.

In night, Ram along with Shatrughna disguised as peasant and reaches the temple. As Shatrughna knows every nook and corner of Ayodhya in the past 14 years, Ram asked him to accompany. Ram stayed in the front and Shatrughna in the back side of the temple.

The silence of Ayodhya is disturbed by the sound of horse footsteps. A man fully covered with black cloth jumps over the compound wall and entered the temple. He took a small gold chain from the bag which shined brightly in the night. He approach the hundiyal (charity container placed in front of the deity) and tried to drop the chain in it. He is shocked to see a man holding his hand.
