@pasumarthisa Kumud never wanted to remarry . Though Desais' wanted her to marry Saras . Saras too never wanted to marry anyone . But he had to run the big business empire of LN so he had to come out of his sanyas besides Danny had died in an accident in foreign land. So the responsibility of running business empire fell on Saras . Therefore as a big businessman he has to have a marriage partner ( i believe a social responsibility ) to be accepted in the society .

Desais' felt that there is no better groom for Kusum than Saras. Kumud persuaded Kusum to marry Saras. Kumud feels Kusum is the best available girl for Saras to marry. Meanwhile after Pramad's death his mom also dies. Alakh is married off .Buddhidhan leaves his vast property to Kumud . That money Kumud gives to Kusum as wedding gift . BD also wanted Kumud to remarry Saras.

Now the most touching part is during bidai , Saras touches Kumud's feet ...an apology . Both of them cry . But Kumud says she is happy that Kusum will take care of Saras and Vyas household.

After Danny's death , Guman is changed and she welcomes Kusum very warmly . She teaches her the western manners cause she has to accompany Saras when he goes to meet British bosses . She showers her with beautiful sarees and persuades her to learn English .

Kumud too visits them at festivals and other big occasions but she is unhappy that still Saras and Kusum are living separate rooms . She tells Kusum to be read books to be mentally equal to Saras .She tells Saras that Vyas' need an heir . Last she sees Kusum entering Saras's room.

Saras did ask Kumud to help him run Kalyangram . I think she refuses .

LN is happy too for Saras but one thing that bothers him is that Saras has tears in his eyes whenever comes out from the room where he has hung Kumud's portrait.

Rest is for the audience to judge .

Regarding Pramad , Saras knows that he is good for nothing . But both of them hardly meet each other . He repents that he has pushed Kumud into a bad marriage . But he never stays in BD house . His house is next to BD's house where the room balcony of Kumud's faces his room. Alakh has a soft corner for Saras ...Kumud does feel jealous.And reprimands Alakh .

At Sundargiri , Saras & Kumud meet alone at night . They talk about moon and stars and their dream world...they are soul partners. But they don't touch each other. Kumud was still married at that time . Night after, in the morning sadhvis break the news of Pramad's death to Saras. So it was Saras who tells about Pramad's death to Kumud. She starts acting a like a widow . Later Saras asks her to marry him but she refuses.

Best part is Sadhvis , BD, Desais, Vyas' all want Kumud to marry Saras but she refuses. She never wanted to re-marry ...maybe not wanting to break society's rule .

Interesting trivia here ... the physical description of GRT's Saras matches to that of Gautam perfectly. I got so involved in SC that once i got a chance to meet maker of the movie Govindji Sariaya . Very apologetically, i asked him that his Saras did not match Tripathi's Saras. Whereas SLB's Saras matches to the T . He said he was not getting a right actor to work opposite Nutan. They were asking lot of money. Meanwhile Nutan had already started to shoot. So he got some theater actor from Calcutta to act as Saras and focused more on Kumud.i.e. Nutan.

Good to see you back and read the posts. Unfortunately I have not read the book but I have seen the film by Nutan once and Nutan was mindblowing.

Very interesting reading the posts on Saras. Gautam was awesome as Saras and SLB could not have chosen anyone better. I see the MK forum has appeared but nothing much there yet.
