Devara Part 2 shelved? Jr NTR and Janhvi Kapoor’s sequel in trouble after Part 1’s box office crash

Reports around the future of Jr NTR’s Devara have taken a surprising turn, with strong buzz suggesting that Devara Part 2 may no longer be moving ahead. The first film, released on September 27, 2024, opened to mixed reactions, and the sequel that was earlier teased now appears to be facing uncertainty.

A report by Let’s Cinema claims that Devara Part 2 has been shelved for now. As per the buzz, director Koratala Siva prepared a new draft and narrated it to Jr NTR. However, the actor reportedly felt the revised version did not come together convincingly and seemed forced within the story’s arc. These details remain unconfirmed, and the makers have not issued any official statement so far.

Interestingly, the team had earlier reassured fans that the sequel was still in progress, even sharing a special post on the film’s release anniversary. Since then, there have been no new announcements, which has only added to the speculation.

Devara Part 1 followed the story of Devara, a village chieftain who survives on smuggling goods through the sea. Things change when he discovers that the goods being moved are actually weapons meant for dangerous hands. Disturbed by the fallout, he switches sides and begins tracking down those who continue the illegal trade. His decision leads to betrayal by people he once trusted. Devara vanishes after leaving a warning behind, a move that haunts everyone involved.

Years later, his son Vara grows up resenting him, believing that his father abandoned the family. The film concluded on a tense cliffhanger, clearly hinting at a second chapter.

The cast featured Jr NTR in the lead, along with Janhvi Kapoor in her Telugu debut, Saif Ali Khan, Kalaiyarasan, Shine Tom Chacko, Narain, Srikanth, Murali Sharma, and Abhimanyu Singh.

While Devara Part 2 remains uncertain, Jr NTR has moved to his next film, currently called NTRNeel (Dragon). Directed by Prashanth Neel, the action drama is slated for a June 25, 2026 release. The film is expected to feature Rukmini Vasanth and Tovino Thomas in important roles.
