Rose, you met Govindji Sariaya? You really are the star of this post! I too always felt that SAras of the movie was really weak compared to nutan, and maybe that's why those of us treat the movie as the source are of the opinion that SarAs was a weak character !
But of course SLB struck gold with Gauti and we had a hero who made Saras a man who was both admirable and adorable ! And we were lucky enough to have two powerhouses Jen and gAuti as lead pair who matched each other in good looks and talent both!
I too feel Gautam brought out Saras from the closet . GRT must be proud of Gautam to portray his Saras so well . When I told Gautam about this, he very humbly he took the praise . Gautam too felt that serial should have stuck to the original storyline but low TRP was the issue. Also fans wanted that Saras should marry Kumud.
In my opinion Tripathi created Saras as an ideal man but he kind of turns into negative character when he refuses to marry Kumud . That was his only and serious mistake. Rest of the time he is the complete man . Thats why Desais' felt Saras is the best match for Kumud . Maybe Tripathi wanted to have jamai like Saras for his favorite daughter Leelavati .
Jennifer too played character of Kumud very well ...father's daughter and strong willed .
I must thank SLB for selecting perfect actors - Jenny and Gautam as Kumud & Saras.
I only watched the movie but still liked saras a lot. He did come out as indifferent at times but was a complete man. Noble, gentle and bhavuk. The way he repented was not shown a lot in the movie. And the actor didn't have screen presence and histrionic skills. That too in front of nutan.
But Sundargiri right conversations prove what Kumud thinks about Saras. She treats him like a devata.
And he pleads like a deewana.
