Mumtaz reveals she wasn’t allowed to see Dharmendra in his last days

Veteran actress Mumtaz looked back at her long association with Dharmendra while speaking about his final days. The two worked together in films like Jheel Ke Us Paar and Loafer, and she shared that she recently tried to meet him at Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital but was unable to.

She said she went to the hospital after hearing about his condition. According to her, the staff informed her that Dharmendra was on a ventilator and visitors were not allowed inside. Mumtaz said, “I went to see him at the hospital, but the staff told me he was on the ventilator and no one was allowed to meet him. I sat there for 30 minutes, hoping I might still get to see him, but I couldn't. I left without meeting him.”

Mumtaz added that the last time she met him was in 2021 when she visited him at his home. She described that visit as warm and memorable. “I met him last in 2021, when I went to his place,” she recalled. “It was such a pleasant meeting. That was the last time we met.”

Speaking about Hema Malini, Mumtaz reflected on the loss the family is facing. She said, “I feel sorry for his family, and for Hema ji. She was always devoted to him. She must be feeling this loss very deeply. She was truly in love with him.”

Mumtaz also spoke of Dharmendra’s nature, remembering him as someone who treated people with respect. She said he was gracious and easy to approach on set. “We worked together in a few films, and he was always a wonderful co-star. A very nice man with a truly golden heart. He was milansar, warm, friendly, connected to everyone.”

She added, “Even till the end, he had a good equation with people. They still love him, and they always will. He was a legend who will always be remembered; he is irreplaceable.”

On Tuesday, she posted old photos with him, writing, “Dharam ji, you were and you are always with us! May you rest in peace.” A prayer meet will take place today at Taj Lands End in Bandra.
