Thanks Sinha ji, for your as usual provoking thread. I absolutely love the latest Guru songs and the intensity that A.R. Rahman has created in all his songs. There are a number of songs in 'Guru'. Here are 3 songs that I enjoy listening to. Rahman sahab has composed Guru while keeping a few things in mind – he has presented several different styles of music throughout the entire album. His work is always different from one movie to the other.

Although I have heard numerous times from a variety of different people that A.R. Rahman's music is repetitive, I have yet to believe this. His every song is unique – one just has to listen to his compositions carefully and thoroughly. A.R.Rahman is all set to weave his magic again with Guru. The little maestro has come up with inspiring music in his latest album and continues the legacy of his pairing with Maniratnam. A.R.Rahman has worked for 11 months on this album. Meanwhile, based on what we have heard, it's worth all the hard work.

We will not be able to compare one song to the other but it is still a choice of the individual listener.

My choices are as follows.

1. Tere Bina that Rahman Shab shows his wizardry. A highly addictive song with influences of Sufi Qawwalis and added the Indian classical, the song is a just simply wonderful more I listen to it I think of Kailash Kher he could be a better choice for that song. Whenever A R Rahman sings, the song becomes special. Rahman Sahab tribute Tere Bina to late master Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. Rahman himself sings this song; 'Tere Bina' eventually turns out to be the best number in the whole package.

2. Ay Hairathe, a somewhat unconventional composition with influences of Ghazal music Hariharan ji what a great singer he is which he has proved again gets to show his vocal range in this number after Rahman introduces the song in his deep humming voice. Alka Yagnik too does a commendable job.

3. Barso re Na re Na re Na Na re Na re this is not your usual Baarish song. Shreya sounds very different and sweet very unusual totally different I guess that why we all call AR Rahman GURU.

da...these three songs are in MY top 5 thse days and what you have said about them is sooo true 👏👏 and ARR is truly the GURU.

ARR is the worst MD in the whole industry. No variations (except Lagaan). The instrument part is always have some South indian tune (nothign against South India, I admire Ilayaraja) , so you can easily make out thats his composition.

He is just ordinary. People always make fun of Anu Malik. How did you guys like his composition in Umrao Jaan or couple of songs in JaaneMaan. Even Jatidn Lalit or Nadeem-Shravan had super hit music in their days.

Just becuase somebody has 106 ( who knows) hits in Tamil, that does not make a great composer.
FYI : My piano teacher also got degree from Trinity college, but he was just a part of th team of Salil Chaowdhury and Hemanta Mukherjee.
I resfused to belive he is a great composer, just an ordinary guy

ARR has his own fan following and they have lapped up all his compositions most of the time and he always has been in the top bracket of MD's and if not the best.

Film "Guru" look like has few(2-3) good songs for his avid fans. None of the songs in the movie looks like is going to be a super duper hit.

MD's like Pritam who "choose" songs from the best in the world are more likely to succeed because the song is a copy of the song from the best in the world. This is just my pov 😛

other MDs are also free to choose, arent they? if they do not, then i dont think it's because they have a greater dose of those scruples. it's just that they are perhaps incapable of copying half as well. there has to be some talent after all in unearthing unheard-of music, finding the inherent appeal in it, and then mixing it up in a way that sells to the masses. if all this was so easy, i am sure most of these pseudo-maestros would be also tripping over themselves to copy and make money in the process.

if nothing else, think of the "copier" as a guy who earns his academic credentials by doing a literature survey of all the research out there. quite a useful thing in it's own way and takes a lot of study to get to that level.

personally, after hearing the track from Gangster, i wish other MDs wld also copy. better than the junk they dish out in the name of originality.

Wow!! Great !!! So can you list out the albums which you found to be all same without any variation. If ARR is the worst MD then sorry to say my friend there no more better MD in bollywood now.

Really!!! Never knew western touch is a part of South Indian tune. Thanks a lot friend for letting us know this fact. Can we have some example from South Indian Tunes where this can be heard 😛

Just one album don't make a MD the greatest. They all are good MD's (Except Anu Mallick and thats my POV). Jatin Lalit, Nadeem Shravan, and many more are also good. None is saying that ONLY ARR is best.

Thats your POV for YOUR guru. Excellent thoughts 👏 BTW being just a part of an MD team and being a successfull MD is different. ARRis not just a part of a MD team.😛

Amit you need to know the art of copying too.😉 And also what to copy. If there's some really good number and you copy in my opinion its fine.

This may help to reconcile your thought process.

Salaam [Film: Umrao Jaan (2006)]

Bears an uncanny similarity to Nadeem Shravan's forgotten song, 'Dhoom machi hai', from the 2002 film, 'Ansh'.

Listen to Salaam | Dhoom machi hai

In a recent Mumbai Mirror write-up Anu Malik attributed the popularity of some of his recent soundtracks (including Umrao Jaan!) to a divine figure that entrusted responsibility to score for some films!! Looks like that figure is either Nadeem or Shravan Bhai! Its very likely that both composers may have sought inspiration (as usual!) from some Pakistani track or perhaps another older Hindi track...just a matter of time before someone brings it to our notice!

Arey, thats what I am saying😕. These copiers are really good copiers and they are going to be more successful than person trying to make original tunes.Did I miss any comma or full stop, Upar Rahul saab bhi khafa lag rahein hain.😆😆😆

Dear everyone

Thanks zillion for welcoming me.
Any musician can't remain on top all the time, one passes through rough phases as well.
I'm a big fan of IR saab and I'll have to accept that ARR ji is not in the same league, you listen to IR's songs and they capture you in first instance and the magic continues.IR saab despite giving music in so many movies sounds different most of the times and his orchestration is superb.
There is no musician who has not been repititive to some extent. Some of them like Sajjad da & Salil da were so complicated that their pattern might not get noticed by many.
Neverthless I can quote songs of Panchamda which sound like continuation of each other.
In my opinion ARR is not having the best time, whatever be the cause.
I do agree that astounding success of copycats is likely to generate many more in the same league as Pritam.
