I really felt the same- hindustan is not a term used in secular India. Being a non- muslim, it still is a jarring word for me- for the same reason- it has been abused politically a lot, to segregate our nation by BOTH RELIGIONS..

And I sincerely felt, when this aunt spoke, she was probably speaking like an illiterete person who often confuses HINDUSTANI for hindu- because of the same origin...no offence meant to any one..

Also, in this post many people have objected to why a muslim woman cannot wear saree?- it was worn in a way a hindu lady would and with the sindoor- so I was not really offended by it or found it out of place.😊

Chicksoup...this will not spiral out of control. It's a blunder by the writers. Nikhat said it and not the auntujee. Nikhat is an educated lady. We are not talking about technicalities here but common usage...
Saree and sindoor comment doesn't bother me but this does as there is already so much misconception about different communities in India.Zee should have noticed it

Here is wikipedia's version:

People[edit]

Main article: Hindustani people

In its current usage in India, the term 'Hindustani' refers to an Indian, irrespective of religious affiliation.

yepp...and that is its current popular usage in India..but if u break the word hindustan down into hindu and staan..it roughly translates into 'the land of the Hindus',,which i being a secular Indian find more offensive..i would rather call it Bharat...because India belongs to all religions...and there is no harm in getting our facts right...rather than pointing a finger at anyone we can always dig in for more information..they are not that stupid too right?? If they make a mistake like this, either they overlooked it or they knew what they were writing...it took me all of 5 mins to search a technical defnition...and kyunki hum log PH par logic or facts na istemaal karne ka ilzaam lagate hain..well here is one fact about Hindustani...i saw the scene..i found the use of the word out of place to..i searched for its usage and roots..and i learnt a new thing..I am glad...

the common usage of Hindustan is more offensive...we are a land of multiple religions...we are not a land of just Hindus anymore

post is informative and very technical no doubt...
but i dont think hindi has another form that i called hindustani...and this was not from aunty..it came from nikhat is educated girl...may be origin of word Hindustan came from aryan residing in sindhu area...because they were the ones who came there first..one Hindustan represent india... not any particular part of india..that is north...it originated as you mentioned. but it evolved in its meaning and then started representing whole india or republic of india...in modern time actually aince medievel times..its is considered as republic of india...and it does not have anything to do only hindu, north india or hindi.

So true Bheegi! The blunders they are making and the numerous loopholes are taking away from the quality.

Why introduce the Ajmer track as a place where someone goes and their wishes are fulfilled, they don't return empty handed, they get all the happiness and then send Asad back sad and crying.

They should refrain from making such claims if they are not going to follow through with it. It hurts people's sentiments and it is wrong on their part.

My only hope is that since Asad felt Zoya's presence today and heard her maybe? He decides to stay back and tells billi to go. Billi would go thinking Zoya is dead. They may go straight to AsYa coming home together and show the reconciliation scene as a flashback which is also fine. But bottom line is if they claim that Ajmer is a place where prayers are answered then Asad's prayers should be answered!

niki... Stop expecting from people who just like to run behind money...till the time I saw today's precap I had a slightest hope... I tried and tried and came with different scenerios... And I'll wait for few more episodes... If they didn't show anything positive about Ajmer even a flashback is fine... If not it is better to quit...

The Republic of India has three principal short names, in both official and popular English usage, each of which is historically significant. All three originally designated a single entity comprising all the modern nations of theIndian subcontinent. These names are India, Bharat and Hindustan. The first Article of the Constitution of India states that "India, that is Bharat, shall be a union of states." Thus, India and Bharat are equally official short names for the Republic of India, while "Hindustan" is still widely used as an alternative name when Indians speak amongst themselves. "Hindustan" is also used in historical contexts (especially British India). Indians commonly refer to their country asBharat, Hindustan or India depending on the context and language of conversation. India is also known as Aryavarta (Sanskrit: ?????????, "abode of the Aryans").

You are right Deepa! It has become too much. I don't get why they had the whole media ban? They have showed nothing that we did not have spoilers for.

yeah..but people of north india are still hindustanis...they also speak hindustani...she never referred to her as an Indian...Hindustani was used to refer North India...that's all that I am trying to say..plus we never named our country Hindustan..Persians did..because our ancestors lived on the other side of Indus
