BEFORE I AM MISUNDERSTOOD..that Qwas to Sujata since she said she calls herself hindustani...

For all practical purposes, I would consider hindustani an archaic term probably used only by certain illiterate sections in India- and when they use it, they innocently mean it to be hindu...

I am not talking about hindustani music and all- which is perfectly acceptable.

I know hindustan means bharat aka India...that is not the point.

When did i say north indians speak only hindi...hindi, hindustani are just a couple of languages in the rich culture there...just because i do not know about something..it does not falsify its existence...

i am not saying that i know everything...i am talking about my experience and knowledge...i am not omniscient ...who knows everything...i am not saying whatever you told about fact that is wrong...but things evolve with time..their meaning changes...thats all what i am saying...but if i have to believe that Hindustan can be used to denote only north indian though i admit Bharat is more appropriate word.but it does not mean...in show when they showed that scene that told this dialogue they meant north indian...everything does not lies in facts and science...general views are also more important..as cow is just an animal and ganga is just a river and india is just a country.,but we call them mothers...fact,science cN not justify this..only general view do...but then you can not say india is not mother for all indians just because india is a mere country and a piece of earth..
and we can not just take the primitve part of anything..we have to take whole history of anything to make sense out of it..
but thnks for sharing info.

Actually, I feel that is a pretty decent explanation too. You did it beautifully without dragging religion in to it.👏

Adding from one of my replies...

In those medieval times, Hindustan had only hindus...

I still feel it is a common misconception and popularly used archaic word in that particular community. We are not used to it, they are...

I fel when we choose to dissect something like this, it is important to know the popular usage...what we perceive to be abominable, might be a very innocent term for them...

Like two words in the same language can have respectful and disrespectful meanings in the opposite ends of a state...I hope it is understood.

So, do you call yourselves hindustani?

Even the muslims and christians in your place?

For me, even when I know the origin of the word and the difference in hindustani and hindu...I would never asociat a mulim with a hindustani.

For eg, if I were to visit N.India and was shown a muslim bride referred to as a hindustani bride, I would wonder why they had to call her a hindustani bride...

why are you taking me wrong dear...
i said hindustani is most general use of word instead india...
i believe you can not show only one religion's bride as indian bride...
and yes i come from a city which is 50% population of muslims...its name is a urdu word and it does not mean all people will be called muslims..
and i doubt everyone is that much educated to call themselves illiterate...bharat is again type of shudhh hindi..Hindustan is general word which is used by mass..we can argue over its origin and its meaning and its inappropriateness but it wont change the fact that its general word that people use...
when i said about Hindustani it was not to mean that we only call ourselves Hindustani..but to tell the fact that no hindu north indian is called Hindustani just because they live in that part of india and belongto some particular religion...
anyways i think we both are right at our places..may be i am not i intelligent and informative enough to understand your point of view...

I noticed it too. The script Writers are becoming sloppier and sloppier. There absolutely zero continuity. Only continuity is as ads beard which is more dense in early episodes and gets lighter in ajmer episodes.

Sujata,

I am quoting again from one of my replies...no offence meant to anyone, because I really respect you and Sangeeta...

i completely agree with u on this sujata.,...facts and science is not everything...popular opinion bhi kuch hota hai...and if u do read my first post on the thread u will see that the last line i wrote was that if someone does not bother to get to the facts..it could be taken very offensively..and here the PH made a mistake...all I am saying is I am sure ki they did not do it to offend any religion or glorify any kind of religious divide...when they used that word 'Hindustani' they may have referred to a geographical community but as a common viewer even i found it badly misplaced...just out of curiosity i searched it..nahi karti toh even i would have taken offence...and the PH should take care that such a thing does not happen again...even if they mean no harm..kisi ko bura lag sakta hai...and ur most welcome...i just made the comment to pacify the anger...the PH should be more careful about popular usage of words and if at all they want to use something that has varied implications, they should give it a proper justification in the show...😊

Hey guys

This post was not made to start internal conflicts. It was an oversight by the PH. I am sure they didn't do it intentionally but as a responsible media house, they should have paid heed to this blunder

Chapter closed

Peace out...Phir bhi dil hai bhartiya (I will refrain from using hindustani) :)

@BOLD. Sorry to barge in, but I don't think Hindustani is a purer form of Hindi, the opposite in fact. I am copying and pasting from a previous post: https://www.indiaforums.com/forum/post/83870566
"The language of North India and also Pakistan before Independence was 'Hindustani', a mixture of Hindi and Urdu. Colloquially this is what is still spoken in large parts of India, and this is what you hear in Bollywood films.
Hindustani derives from Persian, Arabic, Sanskrit and Turkic. At the time of India's independence Hindustani was being groomed by the British to be the official language of both India and Pakistan, but India opted to use Hindi with the Devanagri script as one of its (now 23) official languages, and Pakistan Urdu with the Perso-Arabic script."
