yeah..good observation..i just saw that scene...i think they used that word 'hindustani' prior to bahu to highlight her typical attire...and yes...they should have been more careful...it could be taken wrongly...but as we are a secular nation, i would like to bring a small thing to everyone's notice...Hindustan is an archaic name for India and now India is a secular nation called Bharat..secondly...technically and actually speaking Hindustani people are those who reside in the Hindavi belt of north India (Bihar, Uttarakhand etc)-u can google it and check for yourselves... although culturally and in media, Hindustan has been interchangebly used to denote India as a whole...technically what they said is not wrong..because Rajni Shukla is a North Indian (i.e by definition and geography, a Hindustani...in fact, Hindu and Hindustan have been derived from the name of the river Indus...it is a common name that denoted people living on the other side of the river Indus...Persians named it that way...I myself am a Hindu so u can safely say that i am not defending what they did...I am just placing forward facts...In fact in our Vedas and Upanishads, there is no mention of the word Hindu...and as a fact hindustani people are the ones who reside in the Hindavi belt of India...I am sure some of u have heard this...there is a language called Hindi and there is another form of it called Hindustani..jo sirf north india mein boli jaati hai...we colloquially call it 'Shuddh Hindi'...but since media and otherwise culturally Hindustan has been loosely used to denote the Indian Subcontinent and if someone does not bother to find out the facts, it could be taken very offensively...
👏👏👏
Can you please make a separate post before this spirals out of control? May be it will settle down here itself...wishful.
I really felt the same- hindustan is not a term used in secular India. Being a non- muslim, it still is a jarring word for me- for the same reason- it has been abused politically a lot, to segregate our nation by BOTH RELIGIONS..
And I sincerely felt, when this aunt spoke, she was probably speaking like an illiterete person who often confuses HINDUSTANI for hindu- because of the same origin...no offence meant to any one..
Also, in this post many people have objected to why a muslim woman cannot wear saree?- it was worn in a way a hindu lady would and with the sindoor- so I was not really offended by it or found it out of place.😊
