Yes, RK will come off as a rude jerk in the beginning and Madhu will come off as weak, but this will only be until chapter seven! Thanks for all the lovely comments again. <3 PMs will be sent out for this later today. Enjoy!
- If you're playing with people's feelings on purpose you've turned cold, and being hurt isn't a good excuse for your behaviour. -
Chapter Three - The Wounds
He was right. I had no idea what I was getting myself into. Why would I willingly accept to serve a man of this kind? I figured it was too late though. The contract probably stated that I could leave only when RK fired me, which wouldn't be long at the rate I was going.
I walked back into my room and looked for my uniform. There was none. I was just about to leave the room to question Bittuji when suddenly I heard RK's voice.
"Number Nine!"
I looked up to the ceiling to see a speaker above me.
"Bring me my dinner."
Then there was silence. It bothered me knowing I had just been in his room minutes ago and he hadn't mentioned anything then. There was nothing I could do though. I stepped out of the room and went straight to the kitchen where I was greeted by Neha.
"Chief's food is right here."
She gestured towards a tray on the counter. I nodded my head and picked it up to take it to RK. I walked up the steps and towards his room when I noticed his room door slightly open. Just as I was about to step in, I heard faint voices coming from his room. I leaned in closer to the door.
"Bittuji, I need you to look into her."
"Yes Chief."
"And this time, no mistakes like the past eight times."
"I'll get to the bottom of it Chief."
"Very well. Now get lost before she comes."
"Yes Chief."
As I heard Bittuji's steps coming to the door, I ran back a few steps. Just as he opened the door, I made it seem as though I had just come up the stairs. He shot me an odd smile and walked past me. My heart raced at full speed while trying to decipher what they had been referring to. Obviously the talks were about me, but concerning what?
I knocked on RK's room door and awaited his response.
"Come in."
I stepped in the room and walked straight towards RK who sat on his big, red round chair. He looked over at me and smirked.
"Still haven't changed I see."
"I couldn't fi..."
"I said I hate excuses didn't I?"
"Yes but..."
"Stop."
He stood up and walked towards me. He grabbed the tray from my hands and placed it down on the nearest table. Then he glanced back towards me and I couldn't help but lower my eyes.
"I'll have clothes arranged for you by tonight. I forgot you were an orphan."
That was one thing I hated being reminded of. Having no parents was hard enough, but having seen the fire that took their lives...made it even harder.
"You know, having parents doesn't really make life as wonderful as you believe. Take a look at me. I have no family. I started losing mine long before you lost yours. So don't go around sulking about your dead parents and sister."
I grimaced at his harsh words. I held back tears and felt myself swallow them. The tears ran down the back of my throat as I clenched to either side of my elbows. My stomach felt uneasy and I felt queasy as I felt the horrid memories rushing back into my mind. I needed to get out of there before he could witness my waterworks. I quickly turned around but was stopped by his voice.
"Did I say you could leave?"
I didn't answer. I shut my eyes tight and held onto my elbows, keeping my arms crossed around my stomach in hopes of keeping my composure.
"Bring me my food to the theater room."
I spun around and nodded my head. I quickly picked up the tray and followed behind RK. He took a seat on a couch and watched me as I began walking towards him. My vision blurred with my watery eyes and my hands began to shake. I bent over to place the tray in his lap when suddenly I lost control of my hands and the tray slipped free. I instantly stood, placing my hands over my mouth in shock.
"WHAT THE HECK."
He stood and wiped his pants, probably designer pants. Then his eyes rose and sliced right through me. He began stepping towards me as I took steps back to stay away. I knew he meant harm but I didn't know what to do. When I felt a wall behind my back, I felt helpless. I closed my eyes, letting one tear fall, and placed my hands over my ears. I felt, and heard, his fist hit the wall behind me. I shook as he startled me.
"There are consequences for such dumb mistakes. Understand?"
He grabbed my hair and I shrieked quietly while opening my eyes. I looked up into his emotionless eyes while he glared down at me. Instant fear crept over me and I wanted nothing more than to be free from his grip. He really was nothing like the characters he played within his films...he was the polar opposite.
He stared directly into my eyes for a moment, but then looked away. It was as though he remembered something while he let his hand slip down from my hair. He turned his back towards me and flicked his fingers, gesturing for me to leave. Taking the chance I got, I ran away from him as quickly as I could.
